Read this if you came back in the future, or jsut finished watching the vid, 1. Learning is not a mental process, but a physical one. you're literally forming new neural connections. You'll learn how to make brain networks that last. If you put in the energy to create a mudhut, that's what you're gonna get. You can't cram 6 pack abs in a single night. You can't cram the night before, just like that. 2. Your brain is a small universe. Even a fly has 20 * 10^6 connections. Human brain has about 10^14 synaptic connections. This number is stupidly big. Understand that changing this requires much more effort than you are probably giving in right now. You can adapt your universe for almost anything, if you understand what's going on and build the correct systems. 3. Your universe is alive. Everything is moving in your head. You know about how you forget stuff over time. You need to convince your brain that the information is important, if you want to be able to retain it. 4. If you really wanna remember stuff, make more connections, better roots for your info. Most info is implanted with intense study. You don't just remember the moves when you say you learned kung fu. You remember the moves because of everything you went through. It needs to be a database of your experiences. Info doesn't live in a vacuum (in your brain). 5. You ignore feedback. Starcraft is a videogame like chess, but on steroids. The way an AI was created to beat the masters, wasn't by just inputting the best possible strategies in the AI. It was basically designed to be better than itself. You're also a patter recognition machine. You need lots of practice to understand what works and what doesn't. 6. You don't stick with it. Your brain has the sheer computing power to do almost anything, but changing the 10^14 synaptic connections isn't an easy job.
I don’t know if you’ve been told this but the seriousness of your talks and the playfulness of the illustrations that are added make the whole experience of watching your videos so enjoyable. You’re one of my fav channels to watch these days. I’m so glad to have found you. 🎉❤
I'm in this mania of learning from you and people like you all day, every day, while I do dishes, laundry, work, and so on. You not only gave me some advice on how to learn, but you also made me realize and enhance the things that allow me to have more perspective in life. Your existence is not gold. It's more than that. Gold has an abstract value. YOU HAVE AND GIVE TRUE VALUE.
You've immediately become at least one of my top 5 favorites after watching a few of your videos. Life changing stuff made simple with lightheartedness is amazing
Love your videos! Please would you slow down the “info graphics” and text that goes along with them by a few seconds - it goes so quickly and yes I can pause but its just adds effort to try to absorb all the priceless knowledge you are sharing.
My only regret is why didn't I found you earlier. I cant find words to praise you. You are the best and definetely a good human being. My request is please make videos about your life too, your personal philosophy, your views and specially on spirituality and mystic. Thanks 👍
Thank you so much. This REALLY motivates me. Im only a first-year college student trying and an aspiring creator, but this video gives so much value to me. Also love the backgroubd music - reminds me of when i first watched a video on star size comparisons!
You're not the same person as the person prior having lived through a lifetime's worth of experience to gain the knowledge you have today. Imagine you "uploaded" knowledge to your brain in order to learn a new skill. That knowledge was built on experiences (aka training data) that wasn't yours. How would you resolve the difference between your memories from the memories used in order to build up that knowledge? I can see why psychosis would be a strong possibility. Even if it wasn't, what is the meaning of "me" at that point?
Yah exactly! Deep learning fundamentally changes who you are. If “uploading knowledge” was a thing, it would require other people’s lived-in experiences… would truly be a mind-bending, possibly psychotic experience given the clash of such disparate experiences.
After watching this one I just had to immediately subscribe! This could easily be one of the best videos I’ve come across YT in a long time! Please keep them coming. May God bless your efforts! ❤
Ian Henman! Holy smokes dude! I’m not even sure this is real life right now. Had to refresh a bunch of times to make sure this wasn’t a mistake. You are incredibly generous - thank you so much my friend. So appreciative and grateful right now. Wow. Just wow.
The metaphor still works but it should be noted that no neuronal changes happened to the real Neo. The kungfu program only works on the matrix operating system. the genius was the matrix digitizing all of existence. Once that hard part is done, creating a program over it is easy. Love the video!
Hey dude, this is your third video that I’m watching in a row. Love this content so much! May I suggest you adjust the noise gate settings in future videos? This one seems to cut off noise at too high a threshold and it’s pretty distracting. Otherwise, great video! Keep doing what you’re doing bro ❤
You are incredibly perceptive! I did eff up the noise gate settings even more so in this video in particular. Started reducing it in more recent videos but will continue to try and optimize it further. Thank you!
@@spoonfedstudy one hundred percent. This is the only video of yours I’ve seen that had this issue. Thanks again for the content, you’ve earned a subscriber!
## Main Ideas - [00:00] 🧠 Learning is a physical process, emphasizing the importance of strong brain connections. - [03:00] 🌟 The human brain is exceptionally complex, with trillions of connections, akin to a million galaxies. - [06:14] 🔄 Learning necessitates constant adaptation as brain connections are dynamic and alive. - [07:35] 📚 Anchoring knowledge with experiences, not just memorization, is vital for retention. - [08:55] 🎮 Iterative practice and calibration are essential for effective learning, similar to AI improvement. - [10:34] 💔 Emotional factors such as insecurity and instant gratification can impede learning.
The one concept that changes how you learn forever, according to the video, is that learning is not merely a mental process but a physical one. It emphasizes the idea that learning involves the literal growth of new brain connections, determining the strength and flexibility of one's neural networks. This perspective shifts the understanding of learning from being purely cognitive to a process deeply rooted in the physical structure of the brain, highlighting the importance of building robust brain networks for effective learning.
I know my comment may be a small one in a sea of RU-vid and thoughts, but I am real person, I swear, and I thank you for this video, the time in front of the camera, the time editing, and the work that was put in to it. Just a thank you. It may not be enough to be the energy to fuel an entire day, but something I think you deserve nonetheless. The brain is such an interesting organ, if you could, could you teach us more about things beyond dopamine, norepinephrine ,and serotonin that is always peddled (although true). The neuroanatomy, schematic theory, and connections needed for learning?
Thank you for your comment! I read them all so your input and feedback are valuable to me. Haha it does actually spark a lot joy for me to read so I truly am appreciative. Wow these are some hefty topics. I will put them on my growing docket of ideas for sure. Thank you :)
@@spoonfedstudy also, another question is do you do any kinds of research? Like Harvard doc probably has some pubs, is it also centered around the brain as well (neurolgy, neuroscience]?
Great video editing and format! I enjoy this form of content since it’s easy to digest and to the point. I was wondering how you learned to edit? I’m thinking about making a RU-vid channel but I don’t know where to start learning the fundamentals. I’m also quite curious as to what type of doctor you are? I’m quite interested in medicine and I’m interested in what you do and how that went for you. Thanks for the content!
Thank you! Learn just by trying stuff and getting better over time! Started with a bunch of videos with my first channel before focusing on this one. There’s so many videos on how to edit right here on RU-vid so you just have to get started and learn a new trick with each video! To answer your second question, I am an ER doc and it can be quite stressful. Making RU-vid videos on the side has been a huge creative outlet for me and incredibly fun. If you need more resources, email me and I’ll be happy to talk to you more.
Great content! I've watched multiple videos from your channel in the past 24-hours and appreciate how you're piecing together the FACTS w/ some funny shit (anal warts definitely got me chuckling) to get the point across. I've been summarizing these for myself in evernote so I can review SMASHING DOWN my own deep root systems on these topics. Thanks 🙏 for your work here. As an entrepreneur many of these strategies (presented the way you have) are worth SO much.
So glad to hear you got value from these videos. So awesome. Hearing from people like you is why I do this ❤️Thanks again Ian. I sincerely appreciate you.
Would love to do an interview style vid with you in 2024 if you are up for it. Love to present your concepts to my little audience of entrepreneurs. I think it could be so valuable to many of them.
This is a nice video, but it is way way way way way too abstract. All that abstraction and analogies just obfuscates the message. Please don't become another ali abdal 😭
I am interested in an altruistic community where we help each other to push ourselves to learn about how to master our mind. Everything you said in the video was relatable. Interesting video! I am looking foward for it! I will highly appreciate you sharing me the link or whatsoever when the community is up! Thanks! :)
The way the neurons are laid on your brain Ie the neural circuitry is genetic and getting good genetics that the society talks about js luck This life is all about luck The lucky ones gets their desires fullfilled The unlucky doesn't no matter how much they try
Even if you never told me that you went to Havard or Yale, I would still sense the value you have to offer. Not every Ivy League individual reaches the depth of understanding you do, because it is apparent in your effectiveness in conveying complex things, that *actually* make a difference
I recently discovered your videos and knew immediately that I had discovered a very special channel. I now watch all the videos you have already published and take notes on everything I learn from you. I know a lot of channels that deal with productivity, learning and focus, but your information and how you deliver it is so unique. The only problem... are your illustrations. They are way too funny! I constantly have to pause the video and sometimes can't stop laughing for minutes. This has to stop! 😂 Love from Switzerland
OK. This is no joke. Pretty straightforward. There is no magic pill. GET UP YOUR ASS AND START WORKING HARD! I'm in. And by the way, awesome video. Good job.
@whilefree I RESPECTFULLY DISAGREE. In my own point of view, I use a MAGIC PILL MINDSET, A UNIVERSE MINDSET, I CAN'T simply get up and study, I CANT simply get up and work, I have my own ways of doing it, and the way you commented IS YOUR WAY of doing it, KAPISH???
Maybe stay away from the martial arts metaphors unless you're really practicing martial arts. Like for real. Like sparring every training session. Like legit BJJ.
Just joined your journey, undergraduate computer engineer here trying to start a business on the side. Do you think these same principles apply to the business world? If so, have you thought of starting a business yourself? Thanks!
Thanks awesome. Welcome! Very much so. I’ll be putting out videos on mindsets and frameworks key for all kinds of ventures. Running the self successfully is all our first “businesses” really. To answer your question, yes! Apart from growing on RU-vid, starting a business is my next adventure
This was really good! I'm glad YT algo pushed your vids on my fyp. I am 36 and transitioning into tech. This video definitely explains why sometimes it's hard to stick with a habit.
