70's and 80's were great times to be a kid i was 9 in 1970 life was great for kids. everywhere you looked kids were riding their bikes your friends parents treated you like one of their own of course back then we had manners and respected others when i die, i hope my eternity is reliving the 70's on a loop
Me too for some weird reason. The dog has had to wear a cone after being neutered, so told him "I should get you a coneheads T shirt". So then had to look up the movie. Rabbit hole...
The American way of life was so powerful that Baltar, a good and honourable man, betrayed his people and defected to Earth. This is a surprisingly moving film, and very much a recommendation of decent and just treatment of people in the service of the national interest.
0:59......the little smile from Connie in the moment when Beldar starts singing an Earth song - I bet they were conveying she was proud of her father in that moment. Having grown up on Earth, it was clear she would be much happier here than on Remulak. As some others have said in other videos, while the 'Coneheads' might be more advanced than humans technologically, in terms of societal norms they are perhaps not as 'advanced' - completely different, but so different it was clear Connie felt she wouldn't want to assimilate to Conehead life and remain on Remulak. A twist of irony then that Beldar used the skills of Golf, a human game, to defeat the Garthak!
What happened to writing and execution like this? An entire movie based on a comedy skit, it came out of left field, and it absolutely kills. The "Kodachrome" scene sticks in my memory and does a superb job of showing a family raising a child. Dan Akroyd, and Jane Kurtin made a marvelous couple, The cast was superbly written and filled with actors put into rolls they owned. Comedy genius on par with "Cadey Shack", just as unexpected and pleasurable. Scenes from this movie will forever live rent free in my head.
+Peruviantank I guess with Beldar, Prymatt, and Connie living on Earth for many year helped Beldar to learn golf and defeat the Garthok. However, if Beldar didn't change his teeth from alien teeth to human teeth he wouldn't of had to fight the Garthok because the Conehead master only made Beldar fight the Garthok out of punishment for changing his teeth from alien teeth to human teeth.
@@TheFanboy19 Yes that's true that Beldar said that. However, Beldar, Prymatt, and Connie were only going to temporarily stay on Earth because they were waiting for the spaceship to come to Earth and pick them up and take them back to their home planet which is Remulak which is why Beldar should not have taken the advice from his first boss named Otto when Otto told him that he (Beldar) has to do something about his teeth if Beldar and his family were not going to stay on Earth forever (they changed their mind at the end just for the happiness of the daughter Connie). On the other hand, the Conehead Master said to Beldar that changing his teeth from alien teeth to human teeth is called "treason." So for that, Beldar should not have changed his teeth.
Long time since I've seen this film. Pretty high quality stop motion puppet. Earth was in serious trouble for a moment there, given the Coneheads had Doug McKenzie and Lionel Hutz commanding their armies😆
Wow, that music at about 3:55 sounds just like Beetlejuice music or something, damn it sounds just like it. Someone definitely used Danny Elfman as inspiration for the music for this movie.
+David Sanchez If they made a second film, I'm sure Gorman Seedling wouldn't have to be on it because, he agreed to give them green cards just for sparing his life. (His assistant Eli wouldn't have to be on it either because it sounds like Eli got a new job being the Conehead masters slave). However, since the last scene of the film had Connie and Ronnie going to the senior prom together, a good second film can be about Connie and Ronnie married and have kids and the kids are half conehead and half human head.
@@kennethmcclain3907 Yes, I knew Chris Farley died in 1997 who played as Ronnie on the film. However, if they did make a second film, I guess it could have happened between 1993 (when the film was in theaters) and 1997 when Chris Farley died. If they made a second film after 1997, it doesn't have to be Chris Farley playing as Ronnie where a different actor could play as Ronnie. But I still would have loved if they made a second film if it had Ronnie and Connie married with the kids being half human head and half conehead.
I was surprised to find out that the movie was actually a flop domestically when it came out. How it made in total worldwide I don't know, but back then video sales and rentals was much bigger than it is today, so hopefully it did end up on the plus side in total.
It's too bad the scene with Beldar cutting off the Garthok's head was deleted from the movie after the Garthok died at 2:01 where Beldar had the Garthok's blood on his head seen at 2:15 where that blue coloring was the Garthok's blood. Plus, the Garthok's head is seen next to the Conehead master from 2:31-2:34 that had the blue coloring blood under it.
@@brycewakefield6565 Yes, the scene with Beldar cutting off the Garthok's head was deleted for some reason I don't know why. There were some deleted scenes which I saw over the internet and I have this movie on DVD but, it doesn't show any deleted scenes on it. If I were to take a guess as to why they deleted the scene with Beldar cutting off the Garthok's head, maybe it was because this movie is rated "PG" and if they kept the scene with Beldar cutting off the Garthok's head, the movie probably would be rated "PG-13."
+Bryce Wakefield No, I didn't see it in the theater. I saw it on a RU-vid video clip but, I can't find the video clip now. After the Garthok died at 2:01, Beldar used the claw part of his weapon to cut it's head off where the blue coloring squirted on Beldar's head which was the Garthok's blood. You can tell at 1:58, there's no blue coloring on Beldar but at 2:15 the blue coloring was there. (I used to think in the beginning it was blue sweat if aliens like Beldar sweat out blue sweat if Beldar was sweating with fear against the Garthok but when I saw the deleted scene on RU-vid, I found out it was the Garthok's blood on Beldar).
I think Eli might just have pandered his way out of slavery. Notice on the starship he's fairly well dressed and is no longer wearing a slave collar. He was probably promoted to the newly created position of the High Yesman to the Conehead Master😝
@@mresturk9336 Yes that's true. He's not wearing the slave collar anymore. The reason I thought he was the slave to the Conehead master was because the Conehead master told Beldar that he can take one slave back to Earth (calling them slaves) which was Gorman Seedling with the Conehead master wanting something with Eli. The other reason I thought Eli was still the slave to the Conehead master was because, he (Eli) called him "sir" from 4:15-4:16 which is what a slave would normally call someone (or ma'am if it's a woman).
@@afriendofbean But sir or ma'am is also a way to show some form of respect to someone. Might not have the same meaning on their planet but neither would the slave response. Besides, no intelligent species, would ever want to willingly become a slave or enjoy being a slave. The only exception i can remember in fiction was in Game of Thrones but that was simply because the slave was treated kindly, was too old so therefore the freedom granted to him didnt mean much and he was being left out of getting fed because of the younger slaves.
@@linkheroofhyrule9364 Yes, it is respectable to call someone "sir" or "ma'am" but, Eli called him "sir" like he's worshipping him if Eli is still his slave. Plus, it seems like Eli doesn't look very scared to be stuck with the other Coneheads and he probably wasn't very happy to be working for Gorman Seedling since Gorman was very cranky. Eli did show a little respect to the Conehead master when the Conehead master was very sad and when another Conehead tried giving something to the master Eli jumped in and said "let me take care of that he's having a very tough day" which makes it look like he's happy to be the slave of the master. If he's not happy, he shouldn't of followed after Gorman when Gorman was chasing after Beldar, Prymatt, and Connie when the spaceship picked them up from Earth.
@@afriendofbean That just means he's a suck up. He was shown doing the same thing with Gorman in the beginning of the movie. I think i agree that he weaseled his way out of slavery doing what he does best, sucking up to authority. It paid off.
With this unregistered nuclear accelerator, I and my bluntskull comrades shall incarcerate all ectoplasmic entities created by the cessation of life functions in exchange for monetary compensation. Eh-heh-heh-heh-heh-heh!
I wonder what time period was ancient times for the conehead civilization. Maybe 2 million years ago seeing how advanced they are. They probably had our current technology during the times of Ancient Egypt.
