Then get military access through Great Britain, and use that to launch an attack on some of the farther north areas like Maine or Northern New York. Make them split their army trying to crush it, then hammer forward.

Also Abraham Lincoln was a great president but he didn't want to free slaves he wanted to keep slavery from spreeding, he was a free soilist not an abolitionist. Walter Patton My great great great grandfather was Henry Wirz. He was in the battle of the Seven Pines and got wounded in the leg I think it was. He was also in an important position in a prison camp for POW's.

Rick, Henry Wirz was the commander of Andersonville, an infamous POW camp in Georgia. 29% of all Union prisoners there died, and it was so bad that Wirz was the only person tried and hanged for war crimes after the war. If you've ever seen pictures of starving Jews in concentration camps who are barely more than skeletons, that's pretty much what some of the prisoners looked like. It wasn't his fault, though. The Confederacy barely had enough food to feed their own troops, much less 45,000 Union POWs in Georgia. The Union also discontinued the prisoner exchange program, leading to overcrowding in Andersonville.

I'm afraid I don't quite understand what you mean. If you mean that the Union had higher casualty rates, that's not really true. They had about 100,000 more soldiers die overall, but the percentage was about 28% compared to the Confederate 45%. The reason for the higher casualties is that the Union was almost always offensive and fighting on the South's ground. The defenders usually have an advantage in war, especially when they know the lay of the land. Grant's idea of using a superior army to fight a war of attrition, a constant offensive, to wear down Lee until he ran out of men was another factor. It worked, but attackers in war are more likely to suffer more casualties.

The only reason anyone associates the Confederacy with racism is that the damnyankees won the war. Lincoln was just as racist as any Southerner; there has been a lot of whitewashing of the federals done over the past 150 years. It was not a black-and-white conflict, not even close.

***** It sounds like you believe that the war was on slavery. If it was, the war would of lasted from 1861-1861, because some of the greatest Confederate generals were very anti slavery. Stonewall Jackson would never have joined if the war was about slavery, in fact about the only thing that he knowingly did that was against the law was to teach blacks to read and write. Jackson did this because he believed that all people should know how to read so that they could read the Bible. Jackson did have 2 or 3 slaves, however, they begged Jackson to buy them! General Lee freed all his slaves when the war began, and he believed that blacks should fight. speaking of blacks fighting, many blacks did fight in the southern ranks anyway. there were even black non commissioned officers. If the war was about whites enslaving the blacks then how come there were half a dozen (at least) blacks who owned 65 + black slaves in the state of Louisiana alone! Also many slave owners in the deep south were Yankee throughout the war. There are two very good books on the war, the first is The Battle Cry of Freedom by James Mcpherson, it is a very good book with a slightly union point of view. The second is The War Between the States America's Uncivil War by John J. Dwyer, this book is from a slightly Southern point of view. If you read these two books then consider who was in the right then I will respect you answer, but unless you read both sides of the story then you cannot judge rightly. Just in closing I would like to say that you probably hate the south because of the Calvinistic beliefs that were largely held in the south, (especially after the great awakening in the Confederate Armies which resulted in 100,000 to 150,000 conversions). It is interesting that the greatest republics in History were Calvinist, the Dutch Republic, the English republic, the American republic, the Confederate Republic, and the Afrikaner Republics.

Well when your state ratifies the constitution you become a part of the country. Seceding from the rest of the country is considered treason because you are actively working against the country in which you are a part of. So honestly the question shouldn't be about the legality of secession, because that's clearly no contest. The south had no legal basis to start a war and secede. However, who the fuck cares about legality if your military is strong enough to defend what you believe. An action only becomes illegal when someone is able to punish you for it.

It is not. A Confederacy is a union of states that partially keep their soberany, but follow some common laws. A Republic is a state in which there is no monarch. The USA are both, a Confederacy and a Republic.
