THE CONQUISTADOR - Rum & Tequila Sour?? Does it work?

The Conquistador is yet another creation by Sam Ross (creator of the Penicillin, Paper Plane and the Too Soon?). At it's heart it is simply a split-base variant on a sour - featuring a dark rum and blanco tequila (original recipe calls for Matusalem Gran Reserva Rum and Siembra Azul Blanco Tequila).
PDT COCKTAIL BOOK: amzn.to/30NndfG
This variant on a sour results in a mellow tequila drink that retains the vegetal notes of the tequila. Highly recommended!

It's important to note that Flor De Cana doesn't actually have age statements. Old bottles listed ages, but recent regulations from the European Union required that the age statements report an actual age of the product. Now they just put a number on each bottle.
@StevetheBartender_
@StevetheBartender_ 3 года назад
Yeah, a few people have mentioned that... in Australia the age statement can only be as high as it's lowest component... looks like Flor de Cana use the number as their average age instead.. According to press representation for the rum, “each Flor de Cana product is a blend of rums of similar ages carefully selected to achieve the age profile indicated in the label.”

Your comment about the pronunciation of conquistador reminded me of a show I was listening to where all the US American's made fun of an Irish woman for saying tortoise "wrong." It got the point where she actually admitted she was wrong... but of course she wasn't wrong, so it made me sad she was kind of bullied into thinking her accent or pronunciation was weird or incorrect. So good on you for reminding us US American viewers that are way of saying things isn't the only way. It's not like we invented the language haha.
@StevetheBartender_
@StevetheBartender_ 3 года назад
To be fair, it is a Spanish word (I think) and therefore the con-kees-tuh-daw is closest to the Spanish version.. but yes, it's pretty frustrating getting 'corrected' for pronouncing a word differently. It's actually quite rude... but I'm thick skinned so no stress!
@Lady-Lilith

@@StevetheBartender_ My parents are British but I was born and raised in the States. As a kid I was made fun of for saying and spelling certain words differently. But those were kids... when I see adults do the same thing I just have to roll my eyes.
@nemelissz-genalcoholic7219
@nemelissz-genalcoholic7219 3 года назад
There is still a point in there, in spanish and latin history the role of the conquistador is an important one, similar to the samurai in japan history, for a lot of people pronouncing it wrong means you dont even care in learning of their culture or history, so i really understand why so many people critizise that, is the same with names from people or alcohol, Tequila is not pronounced Te-kwai-lah, doesnt matter where are you from, in english the same letters can be pronounced differently like sigh and laugh, being the 'GH' sound different in both but in spanish doesnt happen that, being 'Qui' read the same in Tequila and Conquistador.
@Lady-Lilith
@Lady-Lilith 3 года назад
@@nemelissz-genalcoholic7219 There's a difference when it's a ubiquitous regional pronunciation. I don't pronounce Saint Petersburg with a Russian accent because I know I'd sound ridiculous. So I say it like any other American.

Hey Steve! I'm wondering if you should store ingredient for a cocktail in the refrigerator, and make the drink with chilled spirits, lime/lemon juice ect., or if they should be stored at room temperature so that the ice melts a bit in the shaking/stirring of the drink, so that the drink is somewhat diluted? This question is in general for all drinks and not just for this one. Looking forward to your answer! Best regards from Norway:)

Flor de Cana 7 is not a seven year old rum. They removed the age statement and are playing word games with "Slow Aged" and calling it a Gran Reserva. It's most likely a blend of 2-4 year old rum with a hint of some older barrels. Try Bacardi Ocho, no games, just great rum actually aged 8 years.

They use it as an average age statement rather than a minimum.
