This is the flip side of the previous video I uploaded. Unfortunately being an inpatient has plenty of negative aspects and here we discuss the ones we have experienced.
My Books - ONLY AVAILABLE ON AMAZON:
"102 Distraction Techniques" - A short and simple book that lists and explains 102 different things you can do to distract yourself from unpleasant thoughts and emotions.
"Self-harm to Self-harmony" - My personal story of living with self-harm and mental illness as a teenager through to young adulthood.

The intro song is "Vancouver Beatdown" by Zomboy. I don't own the rights to his music but please show support by buying his music, merch and seeing him live.

I am writing a video about my worst experiences as a self harmer, and realized that all of them happened while inpatient... Still was worth it tho

I feel you, I started and ended( except since I’ve come home once I cut, and I take old pills sometimes) self harming and attempting suicide IN hospitals and programs.

I was sexually assaulted while in a psych ward. The under staffing or lazy staffing meant since it was a mixed gender ward we just hung around bored stiff and not monitored and so unless someone tried to escape or caused a loud disturbance we were left to become victims of other patients. Another time i was taken off all my psych meds cold turkey because the head psychiatrist decided i was faking my illness. The sudden stopping of my meds had me throwing up everything i ate or drank for the 12 days i was an inpatient and for the weekend after my discharge until i got to see my dr who was so angry and had to medicate my nausea and then restart my meds. There was totally no real cooperation between the psych hospital and people's drs unless the dr had sent a person for admission. I was an involuntary admission without anyone least of all my dr being informed. Id been reported to the hospital by a trainee psychologist i was seeing who took something i said completely out of context. Now i am older i know all the ways that whole experience was mishandled and completely done in a wrong way right from my unnecessary admission through to my discharge. But i had no one to support me or advocate for me.

@@YouthPotential Australia in a town that only has one 22 bed public psych hospital with not the best reputation. Although better now than when i was last in it. My absolute terror is to ever be admitted again and that makes me hold back when talking to my caseworker etc about how i am truly doing with my mental health.

I think the cons really depend on wether you are in an open or closed ward. Been on both and so much was different...

Malika Thueler so what’s the difference between the two?
@malikathueler2529

@@YouthPotential at least here a closed ward is one where the doors are always locked, and you're searched when going in, windows are also usually blocked or have bars. Open wards are those where technically anyone could come in (like any other hospital ward)

Malika Thueler ah ok. In terms of NHS psychiatric wards here they’re are all “closed” but each patient is either informal or sectioned. Sectioning is also divided into different types of sections

Youth Potential can you explain ‘sectioning’ further? I hear about it often online but I’m still pretty lost. I think it has to do with my location. I just want a better understanding.

Quick question, does it hurt to tattoo over scars? My scars are sensitive and didn’t know if that will go away over time
@YouthPotential
@YouthPotential 5 лет назад
4jimmycurtis it depends on how much they have been healed. The best thing to do is hon into a tattoo studio and speak with them. They’re used to tattooing over self harm scars and are really sensitive about it. Usually a year or so worth of healing is enough but depends on the size

Man...you seem to have a bit more in the UK. Here in the USA, there is nothing. You get nothing. I think I might have actually gotten better help in the UK. Also, I wish it didn't cost so much for treatment. I would like to do an actual treatment program for SH...but insurance doesn't cover it and I know I can't afford it...that's sad. I went off on a tangent oops. Sorry.

My friend is on a ward. I'm not allowed to see them. Does anyone have any gift ideas, or things that are nice to have that you don't get give ? I wanted to send them something so that they know they are missed and to cut the boredom and make them more comfortable so they're less sad and scared. I know they don't want to be there, and want to help soothe them if I can (I can't but, would like to try if I can't speak to them). The video mentions boredom and lack of stuff, so I thought I'd ask. It can't be easy in there. If anyone's been on one, could someone please give me some advice?

Food, drink, fidget toys, pen and note book/diary or sketch pad. These were essentials for me. As well as my Nintendo switch and iPod but they’re expensive gifts 😄
