Conservation needs a revolution. This is the only way it can contribute to the drastic transformations needed to come to a truly sustainable model of development. The good news is that conservation is ready for revolution. Heated debates about the rise of the Anthropocene and the current ‘sixth extinction’ crisis demonstrate an urgent need and desire to move beyond mainstream approaches. Yet the conservation community is deeply divided over where to go from here.
In this video Bram Büscher explains some of the ideas proposed in his new book (co-authored with Robert Fletcher), The Conservation Revolution: Radical Ideas for Saving Nature Beyond the Anthropocene.
They argue that the Anthropocene challenge demands something bigger, better and bolder than what is currently put forward. Something truly revolutionary. A post-capitalist manifesto for conservation.

I really enjoyed the book. I study nature protection and in my philosophy seminar we talked about how we have to change the way we interact with nature a how we have to change the way we work in nature conversation. I think this is the way we have to go. Convivial Conservation will maybe be not the easy way but definitely the most sustainable.

YES! I've been so hungry for this conversation, I'm ready. Look, either we can work towards a better future and watch things slowly improve through our efforts, or we can sit and watch the world slide down a wet pile of shit into oblivion. We can solve shit like this, humans can do some crazy shit when we put our minds to it. We can do this.

Hey! Great! Have you ever talked with Indigenous communities and acknowledge that this way of thinking and work it already exists? It would be great if you make this correlation.

Really enjoyed this book. It's made me rethink quite a lot, and sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole researching a lot of the mentioned alternative solutions. I hope it gains some traction!
