Guys, you have big audience in the Nordic countries, and nobody here wonders IF snow biking is going to be a thing. Do you think we stop biking for winter!? 😂
Snowbiking in general maybe, but I'm not in need for another "get fast as you can from here to here" discipline. So I expect myself to pay zero attention to Snowbike DH.
@gmbn any clue on how I could claim my prize from previous episode? Haven’t heard anything 🥲 Make Enduro great again, bombing down ski piste will get boring watching after a few runs
Snowcycling in skislopes is crazy fun, the slopes will be there in the winter olympics anyway, and i think conditions will be more similar for the riders starting first and last. And maybe it would push slopes to open their lifts for bikes in the winter as well 🤞
I did a snow ride recently. Most fun Ive had for awhile. Used regular mtb tires. Fun but slidy. Tried my friends fatbike and loved how the tires stay planted much more.
100% on board for snow-biking!! As a Canadian living in the prairies, Im used to riding my trail bike all year! Snow biking actually helps build on your cornering skills and balance, as well as dials in your braking and reflexes better than any other terrain! cant wait to see where this all goes!!
Cracking show as ever but I've got to disagree with Toff.. Sickest thing this week was Rob Warner with Olly Wilkins. Epic interview of a true legend of the MTB world
The Winter X games in the 90s used to have mtb racing, snow 4 cross if I remember, it was excellent to watch, I'm all for it, especially if they use similar tracks as the DH skiing, it would be insanely fast edge of the seat stuff.
Hacks n bodges mech hanger, a great bit of machining, and very professional looking. But, shimano mechs still need a sacrificial hanger, they won't take the abuse a transmission mech will 🤷♂️
As a Canadian who "might" enter the periphery of ski stations at night to bomb down the hills, supposedly since that would be illegal, I totally approve. Be prepared for nasty injuries 😂
Snow biking is cool but can be kinda hard on your bike. Fat tire winter racing is a unique endurance challenge where small gaps are actually hard to close. And electric snowbikes with a ski and tracks need to have a sport built around them!
Snow biking is pretty much what we have here for the winter in Maine, USA. I'd enjoy watching it. Also, I definitely love riding my fat bike in the "off season". :)
I feel snow biking just opens up mountain biking for ridicule. There needs to be a bigger push to get the regular disciplines, Enduro, Downhill and Cross Country in the Olympics.
I won a championship on snow and it was the most fun experience I’ve ever had on a bike, because it is so hard and sloppy. It make sense and i love it! A very good idea 🎉
About the Sickest Thing part, dude your UK winter conditions I would exchange for my Canadian conditions anytime. Mud would be the least of your worries 💀
Snow biking: Well, there is a company called Skibyke and many resorts have a fleet of them available for rent. Full suspension, newer models use FOX, the fleet at my local ski resort has RockShox. Instead of wheels though they've got skis on them. Not really mountain bikes at that point but I'm sure there's some skimo style compromise that can be constructed for a race setting.
As a cyclocross racer, I think the val de sol race on snow is stupid. It’s like if they had a ski race on grass. Yes you could kind of do it, but it’s a bit pants. For bmx race to get into the Olympics they had to drop track event. There should be more sports in the Olympics, bmx has so many new jobs due to the Olympics, so adding cyclocross, downhill, short track XC to the summer Olympics would be awesome
I'm interested to see what it might look like. If it's riders dangling a leg barely able to ride in a straight line then no thanks. If it's fast, steep and scary then yes please
Fixed gear snow cross would be fun to watch. Without a doubt. Mandatory whiskey shots and bacon handoffs on each lap (of which, neither are a form of doping).
Mind you the 227 record is from 2017, while skiing 255 is quite recent - we just gotta work a bit harder. And with global warming mtbing is definetely new skiing, the resorts and chalets should transform!
#captioncontest Rich thought he'd found the perfect cheeky space to store a CO2 canister, but now he's just the reason for a rather odd warning sticker.
The 2032 olympics in Australia will be the first to include DH mountain biking. Can’t wait because it will be on my local trail system. ( so major upgrades hopefully)
I could see it as an event once or twice a year, but seriously what ski resort is going to let bikes on their hill? They would loose all of their business with ski and snowboard. I think it would be really hard on the snow as well, really hard to maintain. I don't think the money is there to inspire regular use, but an event, hyped up and what not for sure!
Why all this "today's high cost of mountain bikes"? In 2010 the new Gary Fisher Super Fly was $5599.99. In today $ that's $7727.98. The next year Fuel EX9.9 XTR was ~$6500. That's , $8,970 today. I had both, bought used. My current YT Decoy two years ago $7500. Now $6400.
I think it will be awesome if they incorporate really DH mountain features. I watch quite a few pro mtb'rs that rip thier mtb's on their same trails when it's covered in snow. I definitely don't want watch mtb's just making gates. That would be boring. What would be great is bring back 4 cross in the snow on beautifully groomed moto tracks in the snow. ❤
Naw...as you said, tricky to attract a crowd and further, ay least here in Switzerland, a lot of mt bikers are skiers/snowboarders in the winter and somehow seperate these sports...
Snow biking on groomed single track is unbelievably fun. It's a totally different experience. 20-25 degrees Fahrenheit is the sweet spot imho. However it is possible to freeze your nuts off.
I’m 52 and ride a Hardtail… sign me up.. I’ll do it for the fun of it. I usually ride stairs anyway. And let’s be honest we all watch the megavalanche for the accidents in the snow. Once the snow sections are over 75% will stop watching. So yea where do I sign up
lol can't wait to show up to the ski resorts with my bike, that should go well...🤦🏻 hahaha Can't fix what's broken so let's make something new...also a bright idea UCI 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻
Snow biking, especially downhill, is a discipline I've always dreamed of. I always watched downhill skying and wondered if Mountain Bikes are capable of doing that same thing.
So on the price of bikes nowadays, I did a bit of research on bikes I bought 15 years ago. 1st bike £1000 same bike today £1800. Better parts etc but £1000 from then is now worth £1750. 2nd bike £2800 same bike today £4800. Again a much better bike over all. Now £2800 from then is worth £4700. So bikes a little more expensive than cost of living, inflation etc. The job I had at the time was well paid at £48000 which in todays money is £80000. If I was to work for the same company doing the same job I would actually get £55000, £35k less. So we’ve likely been undervalued and exploited by employers and governments with regards to pay and tax for the last 15 years. Or bikes are slightly more expensive than they should be or they were equally overpriced 15 yrs ago.
I haven't made such calculations yet but the real income after inflation and taxes etc has been declining in Germany for example the last 35 years. You get of course more money on paper, but you pay also more taxes and the inflation comes on top of that, so you can afford less from the same income now compared to then.
Do people not get satire. I mean, come on. I dont doubt Blake's skill set, but do people really think he's going to start building and selling bikes at 6k a pop. Jeez.
Snow downhill? If everyone mountain bike thinks this is ridiculous, who do the UCI expect to watch this? If this goes ahead and it flops it may ruin any chance of real DH getting into the olympics.
For god's sake the UCI have messed up bmx badly enough, a sport that has existed for 50 years, they have no idea how to keep downhill riders happy as they have no understanding of that sport either- do we need them to start introducing sports with bugger all competitors, no history and no interest in order to appear relevant? They need to demarcate what they don't understand in order to allow cycling sport generally to grow.
Snow downhill? Is there anything reasonable from this niche discipline that would trickle down to the average punter. Absolute waste of time when Enduro coverage is so bad.
UCI is completely off the rails and increasingly irrelevant. People I know are far more interested in championships put together by Red Bull and other organisations than anything UCI sanctioned.
I'm sorry but if equestrian "sport" can be classed as an olympic event where the horse does all the physical work then how can they not consider mtb events in the olympics, the training and hours these guys put in for their sport says its a hell of a lot more worthy than these stuck up lazy people SAT on the horse. absolutely crazy!!!!
