The Controversy of Heckin' Steve, Reselling & Hate 

Most resellers that I’ve done videos on are good sports about the insults and ribbings. They realize that I’m just joking around to get people to laugh. But there are a lot of people who think I’m a butthole and hate people. I want to clear that up though, I don’t hate anyone, I hate the behaviors.

Shoutout Heckin’ Steve. He’s for the people.

Heckin Steve is the homie, dude isnt afraid to call out bad behaviors and those taking advantage of nostalgia and just using the gaming culture to pad their pockets.

Heckin steve directed me here. I started watching his content precisely because he vocalized what i was going through dealing with scummy resellers while liquidating my collection due to unexpected illness.

Heckin' Steve was manifested by the universe as a response to the deadly sin of greed. He is restoring balance to the world.

Solid point at the end. Greed is what feeds most of these resellers. They don't see an opportunity to pay sellers fairly they just see an opportunity to make profit. They can afford to pay an extra hundred or two and still make profit but they only care about themselves and not the seller who may be going through a hard time and has to sell some games to pay bills or put food on the table.

I feel that the problem with resellers is that they are no regulations for them to abide to the rules that physical, vintage stores follow. To elaborate, the resellers don't have to follow the "60% store credit/40% cash" rule when buying items to flip. While it is true that the resellers can't really offer store credit to a seller at the garage sale, why not just pay 40% on everythimg they plan to flip? With online reselling being a thing, maybe there should be a tax law to document every item you bought and every item you sell online annually. I know such a situation has glaring holes to it, but one can workshop it. That way, resellers online can be extremely greedy by ripping ppl off.

To be fair I would not call Steve a hater AT ALL. I’ve been watching his videos for about a year now and he’s a really cool guy and definitely doesn’t roast people enough to be called a hater just some jokes here and there but not a content cop by any means 🤣🤣 I totally agree with Steve and stand by him 👍💪

I actually watched Philly flipper episode where he got that amazing find. I just didn't like how he mentioned that it was a fair price at the very end after he's showing how much he is selling it for.

Great topic! No matter what you do in life there will be people who try to bring you down. I just try my best to make things better than I found them and know I can sleep peacefully at night with my decisions. I think entitlement is the key common ground, you see some of these youtubers, recording themselves and acting cocky, entitled, disrespectful, whiny etc, and then they have the nerve to play victim to their viewers for sympathy when something goes awry on film. If you ask me thats sick and sociopathic in my opinion. Also not even in the reseller community, theres people out there that have it so good and are so well off then they talk manipulation tactics to get freebies sent to them as "gifts" and other crazy stuff its just sickening.

I used to watch some of these reseller's channels. And I just found out about HS like a couple weeks ago and wish I knew if him earlier. Cheers to Heckin Steve!

I hate this logic. Heckin said something in a mean way so therefore it invalidates what’s he’s saying in some way. It doesn’t. What they are doing is wrong. If they were screwing over the families just trying to make a few bucks then he wouldn’t be saying anything. These resellers need to own up to what they are doing and stop hiding behind what words he’s using

I get what you’re saying but if riff wasn’t as successful as he’s been, I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t have done that. Remember you build you base first then you can be better and do better things. Ain’t nobody have money to donate and help people unless they have success already.

Solid video, first time viewer! Steve is dope. Harsh? Mean? Definitely. But that’s also how you get the message across and it’s entertaining AF. On the flip side, he also preaches compassion and makes you rethink who is helping video game culture and who is exploiting it.

Man, what a great video! Well done! Heckin Steve is interesting. Even though he has a point, I don't fully take him seriously. At the end of the day, we watch videos to get entertained and all the insults are there to make it more fun to watch, I assume. But his videos will also make people think about what reselling actually is and how it affects people in different ways. As long as people can differentiate the "fun part" from the "serious part".

It’s funny watching these resellers complain about how expensive games are when they’re partially responsible for it. Not to mention, it’s their fault, that there are less and less places to get good deals on games now because they’re showing their audience how easy it is.

Great job on looking at both sides of the arguement.. During the pandemic, i was a couponing reseller.. When i sold items, i was 25 to 30% cheaper than walmart.. 100th like.. Have a nice day..

I do genuinely hate the flippers who royally fuck over yard sales and meemaws. I know plenty who counter offer with an actual decent price that still allows them to profit which is still usually 100% plus of what the original asking was. Its a totally different thing to win an auction on ebay or something and have it be very low.

You can be a resller and be fair. Its not too hard. I think out of all the transactions I actually paid more then the asking price more frequently compared to negotiating a few dollars off when the situation was the seller purposly adding on a few bucks for negotiation. It is all about putting out good vibes in the universe not only to be better for others but therfore having a happier life yourself.

I don’t hate Steve. I actually used to like him though. I hate resellers with every ounce of my being. When it came across his channel, I was firmly behind him, and I enjoyed his content. His calling out of resellers made my day. They screw over the people who are looking for deals. Steve was an unsung hero in someways. Then the interview with Phoenix Resale happened, and that was the beginning of the end of he was, and what his channel stood for. Now he is doing damage control. He’s all of a sudden a character. He doesn’t hate anyone. He loves resellers. But he’s still making the same type of videos yet it’s a joke and people shouldn’t take him seriously. How hypocritical is that? He lost all credibility and every video he makes from now on shouldn’t be taken seriously because it’s a joke. I’m not saying wish death upon all the resellers, but why backpedal something you started because you Caleb treated you and you chickened out of your original content. He has no credibility anymore.

The way i see it. It is the job of the seller to look up the value likewise it is the job of the buyer to not fully screw over others. An example would be. An old lady has a snes and games including a copy of earthbound for $50 at a yard sale. Moraly there is nothing wrong with giving her what she wants. The issue her would be if the buyer lowballs that offer.

Heckin Steve I can’t stand that man he’s a clout chaser. He’s a mouse who steals the crumbs off the rat resellers. Personally I don’t really like either one. Again it’s like you said it’s a never ending debate about who’s right & who’s wrong.

Does anyone else think the premise of this video is fundamentally flawed? I feel like Rolling Retro makes a false assertion that Heckin Steve is making his videos with a goal of righteousness to invoke some shame based change. In many Heckin Steve videos though he even explains he doesn’t hate anyone and the jokes and takes are for entertainment value. So what I would say is Heckin Steve’s only goal is to make entertainment and align it with how he feels. Any other extrapolation of a goal beyond that is fundamentally false. He never says anything about enacting or enforcing change. So it makes this video pointless to view Heckin Steve’s videos in a lens that obscures its stated purpose. Does that ring true to anyone else?

I can't say he is stealing games he is paying for because $4 or $5 is what this stuff should be selling for. His markups on these games it's what's wrong none of these games should be selling for more than than $20. There is no reason Pokemon yellow should cost more than $10 but it's pric is crazy.

Yes there’s a common denominator: greed. Resellers aren’t evil, retailers aren’t evil. What is evil is poor ethics. Wrong is screwing someone over as it’s never right to do that. How people don’t understand that simple concept is completely baffling. You can make a profit and be kind to people in the process. Taking advantage of a sellers lack of knowledge isn’t wrong but if you try to get them to lower the price or talk crap about a product then you’re wrong. If you see a product worth more than what it’s being sold for, then pay that price and move on. So yes, GREED is the common denominator. It’s not enough that the resellers shown are getting good deals they just have to try and sweeten the pot more, that’s called GREED folks.

Here is my issue with Heckin' Steve. The constant name-calling is a non-starter for me. He makes fun of other people's appearance.....while not being a beautiful specimen himself. When that fact is called out on his own channel, he deletes the comment. Reselling is no different than car shopping. If you went to a dealership and they offered you a vehicle for $10,000 that you know is worth $15,000, there isn't a soul on youtube that would say "no, let me pay you more". The claim that it is immoral to buy games for a steal is a fallacy at best. Our country has survived on "buy cheap sell high" capitalism since it's inception. If you don't like resellers...that's cool, but I can't think of many things in the world that make me mad enough to devote my spare time to making youtube videos about it. Heckin' Steve is just kind of pathetic to me, taking advantage of "negativity sells" and trying to monetize his channel on the backs of other youtuber's work.

Not his own personal content, he uses other people and their content to bash them only to advance his own channel. Example: his bashing Philly Plipper LMAO what an joke! The seller knew exactly what he had! He said he looked it all up himself 😂 he just wanted it gone. Didn't ha e to take $150, could have stood firm at $250. I mean.. honestly haters of resellers exist because wah wah how dare you sell that game for such a premium.. when the truth is.. resellers wouldn't have a job if people weren't willing to pay the prices in the first place... What do you think supermarkets/ convenience stores/ the high street.. or any other store buying in bulk or "reselling" does? Wan everything at cost value? Gonna hate on all of those guys too? Why don't we all go and farm our own meat and vegetables? Heck why don't we boycott capitalism and make everything free and call it a day? xD The concept of reseller/scalper haters has existed WAY before dkoldies... I could go back 15-20 years and find some spicy discussions on a few forums to prove so... Gamers are the biggest and most privileged winers to ever exist... and God forbid, how dare someone ever dream of taking their hobby and make a profit from it.. a profit that makes money and .. you know .. puts food on the table! No send him back into the corporate machine to work a mindless job just like me, since I can't stand the success of others..

People like Steve are just as much a part of the problem as the resellers he is calling out - his advocacy for justice is only a thin veil to cover up his poor attitude and intentions behind them. He’ll never learn from his actions because he’s blinded himself by being a “voice of reason and just behavior” but in reality just a sour person overall. In the end, he shouldn’t be sorry for his behavior (if he even is) but instead should just aim to be better.
