What to expect when you get into a classic restoration, especially if you've got the detail disease. Car restoration need not be hell.

@@derekchauvinisahero2010 Totally agree...I think that at this rhythm, it will take 3 decades before we can see the Esprit on it's feet...sorry, on it's wheels! He should have just bought an old good chassis, give it a nice cleaning/paint and start the real restoration, then people will be hooked and follow...I personally forgot the channel until the notification popped up on my computer. George, your comment about walking away and recharging and then returning to a difficult task is so true. Impatience is a killer - DAMHIK. Love your work, mate.
@azizhachimi8744
@azizhachimi8744 3 года назад
Absolutely TRUE...when things get complicated, just take a time to yourself, breed deeply, fart out all the problems, and then get back to the task afresh...I am doing a PhD and just took a break from the re-redaction of a 50 pages document (the 1st version needed some tweaks and "peaufinage") and will get back to it in a week or two. in those 2-3 weeks that I am off of the university work, I am tackling big jobs on both my cars (timing belt change + engine maintenance + summer cleaning, buffing, polishing, ceramic coating....etc.) which makes me work hard, sweat a lot, eat like a pig, sleep well,... yeah, but at the same time evacuate all the stress and pressure of studying 8-10 hours a day!

Hi George, the best part about these videos is that because we have seen you build a metalworking skill set almost from the ground up, it builds a real tension in the viewer! I find myself willing you to do a perfect job 🤞 and know that OCD feeling oh so well. Just walk away, come back another day and you just can''t call it finished until it meets your own special standard. Great stuff and that chassis looks one helluva lot better to me, no matter how close the camera gets 👍

its actually strangely refreshing watching George struggles and triumphs ,specially if you watch Car rebuild content in YT where you see people making drama over nothing when they basically just pay or get presented with tens of thousands crate engines , equipment and parts and STILL end up with "finished" projects that CANT be driven more then a couple of yards .

So true about craftsmen who know their trade. To hear the DA was not being used correctly reminds me of the days I was using a DA on a wood floor with a hoover plugged into it. The craftsman came running into me while I worked in the other room because something didn't sound right - to him. The hoover nozzle was plugged into the blow hole, not suck, and he picked that up from the other room. Amazing what people who know what they're doing, know. The fit of your replacement panel is fantastic. Worth every second of those two months to make it. Perfect. It is like the immaculate conception the way it lines up with the old welds. A credit to your patience. There was as usual just one small but crucial issue with the production of this video. It was all over just too quick. :(

Restored a 1982 Eclat back in 1992. The previous owner had painted everything black, wheels, alloy trim around the roof windscreen and doors etc. stripped the alloy off and sent it for stripping. Had wheels refurbed. Managed to source replacement carpets through an ad in a classic car magazine, no internet in those days. The doors had dropped so drilled out old 2 penny pieces to pack them up. 2.2 engine from memory. Always loved the Esprit but had to make do with an Eclat. George, as you know by now, the destination is as important as the journey. I spent 4 years learning to weld and it just takes time. I suspect your voltage is still a bit too low and practicing on small test pieces will not need as much heat as a large piece like a chassis. You have set the bar high on the quality of your work, which is always a good thing but I have also found that when we achieve that standard, there is a strong temptation to raise the bar a little higher. More than anything, be kind to yourself, be kind to others and always act with respect. Stay safe and your work (and camera work) is amazing!
