The real way to future proof a classic Benz W123 // SOUP Classic Motoring 56

This video is all about beating rust by recreating underbody parts in stainless steel to future proof a car for many miles, and winters to come. There’s some cool fuel assembly fabrication, brake line flaring, axle removal and refurb tips, and motivation for those stormy winter days when you’re trapped in the garage. There's some blackcurrant jam too ;)

lol no way! I'm honoured. I hope you point out my issues with exposure and colour rendition. I just got a new [to me] 5D, the less than smooth transitions in the section where I'm stripping the fuel assembly at first, are down to not realising that unlike the 7D the 5 takes a 16:9 still if the shutter is actuated in video mode. I got a bit of a fright when I got inside after the days work and had to get inventive to match full frames with intermittent cropped ones :)

It’s worth pointing out to anyone who is NOT in Ireland just how horrible the weather has been, as always George I am very impressed at your commitment to working in adverse weather conditions. The fuel pump/filter/accumulator assembly looks identical to the 1977 W123 280e that I had a few years ago, I looked back at some photos to confirm. I’m my case I had to change the accumulator to fix a hot start issue, and then I had to change the old pump after accidentally fuelling with an E20 ethanol/petrol mix which caused no end of problems. Great to see you doing such a conscientious job there, this car will live another 30 years for sure.
@soupclassicmotoring

Hey George, I just wanted to let you know how inspiring your whole mantra of just getting to work is for me. I spent the last two years building my own big shop to work on my own vehicles in, and I found it very difficult to change from carpentry work back to working on vehicles. Getting older may be part of it? Well watching your videos gave me the gung ho I needed and now I'm back to my car and bike projects that I've been waiting to tear into for 2 years. I went from a 1 car garage where I restored a 1978 Celica to a 30x50 heated shop built by hand by me and a friend! Best video I have seen on a topic like this. No self-promoting bullshit; beautiful stop motion shots well choreographed and voiced by the most suitable and satisfying voice over possible. It takes abnout 20 seconds to get used to that accent and then you are just mesmerized into watching, absorbing, and learning whatever the video is talking about. I say that in this way because the viewer could be the least interested in this topic, but it is so damn well made, that even someone not interested in replacing old Mercedes plumbing, or why it needs to be replaced, or worse: why the hell does it matter to them in the first place, will all take a seat and get glued to the screen and come out learning something they had never thought they'd learn. All due to this magical presentation. Kudos, man. This is (again) the best made video I have seen. Bravo! I have subscribed, and I will be coming back often!

Wonderful work sir. I have owned W123 a coupe since 2009 and spent many hours learning my way around the car and have recently replaced it with an identical car that was restored professionally on 2012 which I have been through with a fine toothcomb. My only suggestion is AQUASTEEL as a rust converter as i have tried many and spent hundreds but aquasteel is the real deal. Used in the shipping industry and doubles up a s primer for whatever you want to use a finish (POR15 etc). I have also learnt that when you take anything off the car from brake pipe holders to shocks or bumpers, its best to replace all the bolts and screws with stainless as this makes any further work a doddle done the line. Love the stop frame work and I am a photographer an commend you on your lighting. Fabulous work

Great viewing as usual! I enjoyed the comparison of new stainless brackets vs old ones. Benz is looking better all the time. Would like to see some videos of it driving when you are done.

There several Tv programs from BBC and other national stations in Europe that changed how we view and share culture. UK programs that has influenced Denmark to a visible degree is Paddington bear, the great British bake off and Grand designs. I honestly believe that this program series could be added to this list in the future, at least in Scandinavia where TV culture is very close to the British and where there has been a boom in slow-tv the last 10 years. I am sure that Danish and Norwegian national television is already looking for the Nordic SOUP, because this is a game changer like Paddington bear was.
