@@karenholladay-ne9goLWR: Space for the wheelchair. SUV’s being so popular tend to have more modern attachments. Safety. View ( as when your physically limited, it’s quite important.) There are just so many more reasons why to go for a SUV especially if it’s a recent model. While a sedan has that one good point. ( there are plenty of attachments you can get for compact cars too of course. But for pick up trucks & SUV’s they offer so many more and just have so many tools to help people get up and in)
For what it’s worth Curtis, especially in the USA it’s wild how many things like this exist. Living in several different countries, US+Canada is extremely accommodating. Though, it’s mainly due to the wars and history that happened all throughout the EU. Some places are very modern, as they were destroyed and had to be rebuilt. But there are so many places that are historic/old/have cobble stone streets. It’s just kinda impossible to implement.
@@notsoberoveranalyzer8264 The fact that you identify these deficiencies speaks volumes about you and a culture of change. Challenges like hers will likely always exist; sadly with war more people faces the same challenges. I am a huge fan of her can do attitude. She is very gifted.
Not everyone understands how this means so much to those who really needs this. I just saw people commenting how this was a "waste" of space, money, etc. This video shows how important it is to include everyone in mind in designing built-in environment
Our city recently made changes to their sidewalk policy once a sidewalk is deemed to need repairs. Most people can step up a 2 inch break in the concrete or walk through grass but people in wheelchairs, scooters, etc often can’t do what most of us deem as super simple. Just one bad sidewalk square or having to go into the street which is too unsafe because someone didn’t scoop their sidewalk for an example was why I advocated to shorten the length of time before it needs fixed. Was 3 months, city decided to extend it to 6 months, such crap!! I don’t need any sort of assistive device but those who do deserve safe walk ways
I can’t believe that people would say or think such things! The disabled are people, too, and deserve to be able to go places. I wish every place would accommodate us!
I'm an architect and I proposed this solution for one of our projects, but it was rejected due to being too expensive and they yet again put the accessible entrance around the back, I'm so sad this keeps happening but I promise I'll keep trying and work on becoming more convincing!
Army here, thank you for your service, brother. 💯 oh, don't eat too many crayons....I had to. I'm sorry, I absolutely love all my marine battle buddies. I served in Iraq in 2008 as a convoy driver. Was one of two females on cets. Anyways, take care, and may God bless you. I know it's still an ongoing struggle in the civilian world, so I hope you got a little chuckle from the crayon bit. You're doing great. Always know that, always know you will have your battle buddies. I don't know you, but you're still my brother! Love you
@@magnatiismn Thank you and thanks for your service as well. I'm doing extremely well, I have no ill effects from any of my deployments. A very successful Aeronautical Engineer these days. 1990 Persian Gulf War I was a crew chief with HMH 464 MAG-29 out of New River MCAS Jax, N.C. Good joke by the way...OooooRaaahhhh! Semper Fi
Imagine being late for your flight and then having to use one of these every time there are stairs 💀 Edit: the point i’m making is that it would be much cheaper and faster to just build a ramp
My wife chelsea was really surprised by this lift. Your smile could brighten a city wide black out! I say these words with tears in my eyes and a smile on my face😘🙂😉
I'm so glad that you are doing this to make people more aware of the issues faced daily that may have cerebral palsy and other neurological issues and I think You Are So Amazing ❤
Do u know where I live they hide the special needs in the house from born till death?! Yesterday I took my niece to the park on her wheelchair and people stairs at us strangely and I really felt shame about their minds, they have an old say that it’s devil work
Yes actually its comically simple and i would be surprised if it wasnt running on an arduino or raspberry pi. Still wont stop the manufacturer from charging 10,000x more than its actually worth though.
@@stenh.6243nd how the disabled people will travel upwards through that ramp and pls dont say that they can take help from others because this contradicts the whole point of being independent and not all are like u who can offer the help willingly
@@ilyasali4868even so the cost and just general waste of resources going into that type of machine is a lot more than a ramp or probably even a small elevator
Ramps are really all that's needed tbh, I think it's unreasonable to expect all places to have such lifts as they're expensive not just to install and purchase, but also to maintain...a ramp is free once you build it. However, places like this viewing platform make sense to have a lift like that, limited space means more incentive solutions
Kinda, but not really. There are way too many moving parts which can fail & be VERY costly to repair. Wheelchair lifts are a long-established technology. No use in re-inventing the wheel & wasting years of resources & engineering hours for useless inventions like this… their efforts could have been spent improving the well-being of humanity & repairing crumbling infrastructure. Faith in humanity took a big hit with this video 😔
As cool as it is, this is just the same exact concept as a canal lock, a technology that's been used since the mid tenth century, more than a thousand years ago
Probably each step has it’s own hydraulic ram while all of the steps can lock together to form a lift platform! However often you need to call security or staff in the building for them to let you use those lifts! :)
That is pretty cool. We have a lift for those with mobility issues in my local shopping centre - but it's always a lift, and rarely used. This is far better as it can be used as stairs by everyone else when not required.
AMEN! Your usually made to go up some STEEP incline...or off around the side of a bldg to get to a side door to find an elevator. 0R clear ALL THE WAY to the BACK of a store ...to get to an elevator..and if your on a WALKER.... THAT'S..EXXXHAUSTING!!
@@FappityFappityFap SOOO Making $$$$, Is FAARR MORE IMPORTANT, Than PROVIDING ACCESS....FOR THE DISABLED (Who has $$ to spend too) To Get Into the building?? AND MMAYYBE, Just Maybe.... you've also heard of this VERY EXPENSIVE GADGET CALLED....AN ELEVATOR?? And that THIS....MIGHT... Actually BE a CHEAPER Option in some areas of a building?? NOOO U DIDN'T, cause ur too busy FappityFappityFap'in your gums before you engaged your brain and thought about the NEED of the DISABLED to have ACCESS ALSO, and the fact.. That it's...oohh, just ..THE LAW that WE DO!!
right? those stairs are not high, a raml would not only work but would be so much cheaper and also better. This thing looks like it takes at least 5 minutes to get up there.
fr, she spent more time waiting for the lift to open then she spent on the actual lift like she literally just needed to go up 4 stairs and it took an entire 2 minutes
It's in the space needle and it has extremely limited space. Since it's a historic building, the architect for the remodel did everything they could to update for accessibility while still maintaining the original design intent
We definitely need more of these!!!! There’s a device where you just wave your hand in front of it and it opens the door and waits until you get through! Just having those all over would be great! I’ve used some openers that once you push the button you have about 5 seconds to get through it! And the buttons is on a post 6 feet from door! That’s a blast!
I'm a manual wheelchair & mobility scooter user and seeing this makes me hope that it'll make its way to Ohio one day. More of these would make alot more places accessible to me & others. Thanks for sharing!! 😊
Hello Smiley WOW cool lift alright. I would not have known about it if it wasn't for your inspiring videos. Thank you so much for sharing them and your wonderful smile 🙂👍
I appreciate the technology and purpose of making everyone feel valued, but making a separate ramp instead would have made more sense as it's a very slow process in my opinion.
