That was really helpful! The one thing I'm missing is info on how many links should I remove if my new chain is too long? I got rather confused trying to fit it as I thought it would be the correct length. It's an 8 speed chain, so it should be the right chain for gt avalanche 3x8 speed, right?

I just want to reiterate, does this hold true for newer 11 speed shimano chains? I have the HG 701. So the correct orientation for installation is having the shimano logo facing outwards, and right side up? Thats how I know its on in the right direction?

Can a chain be installed if it's already been connected together? I have a 15 speed mountain bike from Walmart and it does have a derailer. Or do I have to take The master link back off to install it?

Thanks for this. I actually routed my chain the wrong way and it was outside the small guide bar at the top jockey wheel. Caused a bit of noise for 100km or so and have now fixed the problem. But... I can now see wear on the metal bar where the chain rubbed. Any concerns with that other than cosmetic?

A lot of these videos keep forgetting to mention that the back part can get unchained too. Make sure to check that because my from part was fine and I was confused

I have a shimano chain but I don't have a shimano logo horizontal on any of the links, just either "HG" or occassionally "UI" which are both multiple orientations. I'm assuming it doesn't matter which way I line it up then?

I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.
