I always said that investigation into Boris Johnson, who I was no fan of by the way, was a sham and certainly far from independent. The civil service is the least independent body in the country, closely followed by the BBC and the rest of the MSM. The British establishment is as corrupt as anything you will see in countries like Russia but a bit more subtle about it.
This goes all the way back to Blair's election. John Major's government was embroiled in many scandals and Blair promised to clean up. I voted for Blair but regretted it shortly after when the Bernie Ecclestone affair blew up and we knew Labour were just the same. Give the labour party lots of money and get favours in return. I remember when the Sunday Times broke the MP's expenses scandal. Many MP's across all parties were fiddling their expenses. However, Labour MP's in particular took it to the next level. Labour MP for Luton, Margaret Moran, had falsely claimed £60,000 in expenses. She even claimed £22,000 to have her boyfriend's seaside home in Southampton, treated for dry rot. She did this by cleverly declaring that the home was her second residence away from Westminster.
Only recently, Dawn Butler, a London MP, claimed mortgage payments for a second home just ten miles from her residence and a jacuzzi to go with it. Amazingly, despite knowing where she lives, the expenses office approved the payments! No charges, no conviction for fraud, no expulsion from the Labour Party.
We were also surprised at the recent appointment to government (and elevation to the House of Lords) of disgraced MP Jackie Smith who was forced to resign from Labour over the second homes scandal and pornography expenses claim.
Yet not one of them was prosecuted for theft,as anyone else would have been in a private company. The fools even kept voting my bent Tory MP back into office,year after year.

It goes on at all levels. The (female) newly appointed local fire & police commissioner where I live has just appointed the (female) labour candidate who recently lost the election as her deputy, on the basis that she would bring a useful skill set to the job. The previous commissioner was an idiot but he didn't ever appoint a deputy. I suspect neither of these individuals have ever climbed a ladder to rescue someone from 3 storeys high, nor faced down a crowd of drunken yobs in their time. I am sure however, they will make certain that diversity targets are achieved......

Publicly listed companies are forbidden to appoint competent friends to their boards. In politics the opposite is true. If this isn’t corruption and double standards I don’t know what is.

Oh, for the time when a person's surname was the same as his, and, if she is unmarried, as her mother's. On one occasion, at a school parents' evening, I had to give a report on a child's progress to a mother and no less than two fathers. On another occasion, a child's mother was leaving my room after discussing her child with me. She and her husband, the child's father, passed each other at the entrance to my room. I asked the father whether he wanted a separate report, given that I had just spoken with his wife, the child's mother. Surprised, he said he hadn't recognised her.

Starmer's attempts to make out his dad was a worker in a factory were laughable, but on the other hand he wasn't a cigar chomping mogul either. His company was a very small concern, quite possibly a one man operation, working out of a little workshop on an industrial estate.
