Tony Basoni Tony Basoni I respect your opinion. I have many many tattoos, I got them when I was young. That doesn’t negate me from being a Christian. The long hair thing always gets me. Men before Paul had long hair. I believe God is a God who said worship him in spirit & in truth so I don’t think hair doo’s are a salvific issue. Steven is still learning & humble enough to admit that. What I didn’t see you state was any sort of theological or doctrinal objection to what he’s said so it comes off as a superficial objection. Perhaps I am mistaken, if so please let me know. I don’t agree woman should preach & probably far more conservative in my faith than most. Had I been the me who I was before Christ saved me, reading what you wrote would’ve pushed me away from Christ because far too often Christians portray Him as a judgmental task master than a loving redeemer. I know it is not all love & blessings & we will be at enmity with the world. We are to do & say all things in love & I think at times some give off a hubristic impression with issues that are not salvific. God is concerned far more with the eternal part of us, our spirit, than he is with our physical appearance. When I was talking about long hair I was thinking of the Nazarite vows, part of that included no haircuts so there is a Biblical reference for men not cutting their hair. I know very little as to the debates over flat/spherical earth. Things like those are not salvific issues, & I look at it like this... the Word says the Holy Spirit will teach us all things. What I do know about these debates is that there’s a whole lot of translation debate & eisegesis rather than exegesis in a lot of the conversation & scripture should define scripture. Another thing I’ve observed is, unless we can read the Bible in period Hebrew & Greek & understand the historicity folks tend to interpret by their own understanding. The reason I say this is because Paul telling women to cover their heads. Are all modern women to start wearing a hijab? These are questions I have. Is this for all time or is this customary of the practices back then? If these issues were pertinent to salvation they would be included in the gospel, they are not. Not all people are going to be theologians or biblical scholars & many of these things require years of study & biblical knowledge to fully understand. I’m still young & have so so much to learn. I have an insatiable appetite for the Word & want to learn it all so I devote as much time as possible to study, not everyone is able to do this. I have a special needs child who loves the Lord with all their heart, intellectually I don’t know if he will ever fully be able to grasp some of the deeper understandings of scripture. However what I do see is a pure, sincere adoration for the Lord & the beauty in even the simplistic knowledge of the gospel. I wouldn’t dare have the hubris to say someone who doesn’t know or understand every aspect of the fullness of the Word could, should, or would make them any less in their salvation & relationship with the Lord. I believe in calling out error, but in love. If I’m wrong I pray that someone loves me enough to come to me & kindly point out how I can correct & improve. If one is still new in their walk & learning & makes a mistake & people are saying you can’t be saved because you said this, or can’t be saved because you said that; then the way we handled it is also wrong. I wonder how many people questioning Steven’s salvation have taken the time to email or message him directly to address these issues? Because that’s what we are supposed to do & his email & contact information is available online. I’m sure there are areas where he is mistaken, but that is true for everyone. He has not been saved very long & I think it is quite commendable that he sees the errors of his past, has a repentant heart, & wants to help others not make those same mistakes. This subject hits close to home for me because I was raised in what’s called a Christian sect but has almost nothing in common with biblical Christianity other than in namesake. Most of my family still hold those same beliefs & because I no longer share these I am the black sheep. Because I don’t have the gift of tongues they don’t believe I am actually saved. What they call tongues is NOTHING like it’s described in the Bible & no matter how I try to explain this, it falls on deaf ears. As they’re my parents I respectfully agree to disagree. It’s very sad & I pray God will lead them to truth. I learned so much from my experiences there & what I went through because of those things & understand the pain & harm having others constantly trying to negate not only your salvation but relationship with Jesus. I try to speak to people directly & in a was so as not to make them feel they need be defensive or are being attacked. Details & doctrines are very important, if you have a false gospel then you have a false Jesus & that will not get you into Heaven. The core of the gospel is Christ, He said whosoever calls upon & believes in Him shall be saved. That said He also said their would be those who called upon Him to whom He would say depart from me you workers of inequity, I never knew you. It is my ultimate goal to be the previous not the latter. I’ve heard about a thousand different arguments about what separates those two groups. To the best of my understanding it comes down to a heart condition. Are we more worried about how we can serve Him or what He can do for us? Only God knows the motivations of a man. I’ve seen a whole lot of fakes in my short time on this earth, but I also have seen what real sincerity looks like. I’ve listened to a lot of Steven’s talks & in all of them there’s one common denominator & that is he is seeking the Lord. The Word says seek & ye shall find, knock & He will answer. The folks who I know who have worked with him are trustworthy & good men. I think if he were a wolf in sheep’s clothing they would know better than I. I know he has worked with Dr Michael Heiser & learned from him. I have a great deal of respect for Dr Heiser & don’t believe he would promote him if he were out to deceive. If he were merely doing this to fleece the flock he wouldn’t have given up everything he gained monetarily from before he was saved. I know enough to know I don’t & will never know everything. I will have to study more in the issues you addressed, & I pray if I am wrong God will show me. My basic point is there was a time when the average person was illiterate, had no access to a Bible if they could read it but I bet you there were still saved. I don’t think we have to have every single aspect correct or committed to memory, I think it has far more to do relationship than it does religion.

I have a dear friend since childhood who has fallen into the New Age, and it has been so hard to figure out how to witness to her since she claims that not just the historical records but also scriptures have been corrupted and aren't trustworthy. Love the podcast. You guys explained exactly what happened to me. Got into Joe Rogan and then him and his guests (Graham Hancock especially) got me interested in psychedelics. Did LSD a year ago thinking I was going to figure out who I am, had a deceptive experience, then had my first panic attack, and things haven't been the same since. I developed a dissociative disorder called Depersonalization/Derealization disorder. Got saved earlier this year though and by God's grace, I'm slowly working through things. Thank you so much Cultish and Steven Bancarz for exposing this evil! God used Steven to help me when I was at my darkest time. He was actually the first Christian I stumbled across that had answers for these things. I might struggle now more than I ever imagined I would, but I know God now and I wouldn't trade that for anything.

This is really good, guys. I would like to caution Steven about his use of Greek, though. A couple times in this episode, he emphasized that the Bible says "THE Christ, not A Christ." The problem is that Greek does not have definite or indefinite articles. It has articles, but they function completely differently than in English. "The" and "a" in the text are products of the English translator's discretion. So, it is probably best not to base an argument on Greek articles. I bring this up because the rest of your apologetic is excellent. Removing arguments about articles will make your apologetic even stronger. Keep up the great work, brothers!
Thank you for the episode. I have been overwhelmed over the last number of months, recognizing the New Age thought that I was previously ignorant of. It's entering my own church through "Christian" authors and teachers. ie. Enneagram book studies, Richard Rohr, Brian McLaren, and other "Progressive Christian" leaders.
The New age spiritualism and the occult mystery religion(s) are synonymous. It amazes me that this connection is often, almost always, overlooked. There are but 2 religions: one that is of God and accepts Christ as Savior, and the other is of that wicked liar, the devil. I hit 35:20 when Stephen begins talking about how Jesus specifically warned against those who would claim to be Christ, and I broke down weeping. My little sister believes that she can be part of the Christ consciousness, that Jesus came to lead us to salvation by example, not by atonement. In her mind, we are saved, not from sin, but from ignorance of our deity, and our true nature. I see this philosophical lie sweeping through the church, carrying off precious people that I love, and it fills me with sorrow and anger. Jesus preserve your church!

"Christ in you, the hope of glory." This part then feels confusing. I will ask the Holy Spirit to help me clarify ..... Is Christ known through me? Does the Son of God work through me? through my human, fallible nature? I am born again.... but still getting clear. A born again believer, are they one with God? have they died on the Cross and risen again with Jesus, so are now the same nature as Christ? Do we even have a self anymore? Interesting topic. I got sucked in to so much garbage. I was better off before I stepped into a church. It's like the psalmist sais. The troubles of my heart have multiplied! Free me from my anguish! Adam and Eve were told that God is withholding secret knowledge from them and if they obtained this knowledge they could be like God, is it a coincidence that one of the best selling books for the new age is called, "The Secret" and perhaps the cornerstone of Occult Theosophy is called, "The Secret Doctrine." Both of these books promise to give you secret knowledge that will unlock your inner Self and become your own god. Hi,best description I have is they both believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Charismatics are extreme and fall into deception. The Pentecost use the gifts and stay in order of what the guidelines are in scripture.

In reference to the scripture in Luke 17:21 where Jesus said '...the kingdom of God is within you." I understand that to mean; 'the PLACE where God wants to establish his rule and reign.' He was speaking to the Pharisees and trying to help them understand that the kingdom of God was not coming outwardly, at that time; but rather inwardly. As they were looking for an outward national manifestation of the kingdom of God to set up an earthly rule. It was not time for that yet. God's kingdom was to first be established in the hearts of mankind. Jesus had just said "...the kingdom of God does not come with observation"; ( meaning outwardly; vs 20 ) Jesus also said to a Pharisee named Nicodemus, in John 3:3.. & 5-7 "...Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God".."Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I say unto thee, ye must be born again." So Jesus was obviously NOT telling them that they were ALREADY OF OR IN GOD'S KINGDOM.. BUT that they "MUST BE BORN AGAIN" of the Holy Spirit, SO THAT the 'KINGDOM OF GOD MIGHT BE ESTABLISHED WITHIN THEM', and that God might then, rule and reign in them.

On my when Believers are Glorified will they be "perfected. When scripture says things like be perfect , it is talking about being "Spiritually mature " . Sorry I don't have bible citations . Not sure if that helps ? Or perhaps someone can help me there 🙂

I think this series was amazing. But at the end with Judges and Elohim is weak. Because it is still giving humans a power Divinity, and Psalms 82 is about punishing by "death like man/humanity.* I agree with Dr. Michael Heiser, because he is looking at the similarlties how and why God Judges the Elohim, and pagan gods. Greek and Norse mythology fits well as a Tower of Babel and Genesis 6. Far more then Israelite Judges. Because at no point in the Bible we have Israelite Judges, judging nations according to the Law of God. Also Elohim Judges idea, doesn't extended to the King's of Israel or to the Churches. It's completely devoid of the idea of Elohim as Humans.
Um. Psalm 82, uses, to my knowledge elohim, so that would clearly speak not to men or israel leaders. However, I'm sure the leaders, like today, would consider themselves gods... so. It may cross paths.
I appreciate your addressing the use of elohim as judges, and the bigger issue would fall, as you've shown under context. Psalm 82 seems God (most high) is standing before territorial (gods) and not simply men. Because if I read through the other areas you bring up, its clearly men i teracting with men and God (almighty) rarely shows up and addresses a group of men in the way psalm 82 does. But i digress, it all fits the general topic that man wants to view themselves as God.
