just completed solo trip 3785kms from may 09 to may 31st - bought bike in Hanoi - northern loop via Sapa / Ha Giang / Ban Gioc / Halong then a little zig zagging down to sell bike in HCM. 138cc 2008 Yamaha Nouvo. My total cost (excluding flights/visa) was usd543 (about usd25/day). Some Dorms or mainly single room local hotels / i only eat street food / i dont drink / various site entry fees / fuel was about $5 / 200kms.. i bought bike for 5mil dong / sold for 4mil dong but paid about 600k dong for repairs/maintenance (bike, buy/sell / repair costs are included in the usd543 expenditure). Great adventure. Highly recommended.

I rented the xr150 from you guys in feb 2019. 2 months hcmc-Hanoi taking the inland and border routes. Then up to ha giang to cao bang down the Chinese border to ha long. On road, off road, overloaded with stuff I accumulated along the way. No matter how hard I pushed the bike never gave me a problem. surprisingly never even got a flat. I carried the spare tubes the whole time you guys gave me but never needed them lol. I met a few other guys going north from hcmc and we started together, all on win’s except me.1st day 2 of 3 broke down, second day one broke again and I left lol. I was the flash packer and I was here for adventure. I work my ass off and saved for a year to pull this off. I wasn’t about to waste time on the side of the road. I rented the XR because i wanted something I could push hard and go off road. I expected to run into problems at some point but never did. The bike never let me down. You guys are awesome. I can’t wait to return and do it again. Hopefully Jan 2023 things will be relaxed enough.

That's pretty much what I did.... XR150, though Hanoi to HCMC twice, then Ha Giang cao bang mong CAI back to Hanoi, numerous trips 200km radius from Hanoi to ninh binh etc, stayed in hotels, ate locally, one of the best trips I ever did, hired from tigit, 1 flat tire though sorted for $8....

@@justinrogers3634 yeah, I went to Thailand Phuket,Chiang Mai then on to Indonesia island hopped from Kuta,Lombok,west nusa tenggara, East Nusa tenggara though on a scooter, was going to fly back from there to NZ but flew back to Hanoi for 2 weeks because I missed the place so much, usually when you go back to a place for a 2nd time it's never as good as the first experience but was great the 2nd time as well....

@@nix123ism that’s awesome 👏 I’ve been all through Thailand but haven’t been to Indonesia yet. I kinda thought the same thing about going back twice. I’m planning on 2 months next year but haven’t decided exactly where yet. If I do Vietnam again I’m gonna fly into Hanoi and do the NW part for a week or 2 then cross into Lao for a month or so. Depending how long Laos take maybe into Cambodia as well. I covered a lot of ground each day in Vietnam so I should be able to get a lot of ground covered in 2 months. The other idea was fly to Jakarta and find a bike and see how far I can make it in 2 months. I think I can make it through java and a few of the islands

Hotel soft mattress is actually needed in Vietnam for travelers.
@Tigitmotorbikes
@Tigitmotorbikes 2 года назад
All I look for in hotel reviews is for someone to say "soft mattress". No Idea why Booking, Agoda etc, don't have a mattress review sliders.

LOL I disagree! That is one of the things I like about travelling in Asia - the hard mattresses. I find them very comfortable.

I've seen many cases of dumping used oil by digging holes and buried in the ground. Some certain volume of the buried oil will surely and slowly find its way into groundwater; more frequent oil change will damage the environment faster. I change oil for my honda wave after around 4000 km and 3000 km for XR 150. Please save the environment for your children.
@Tigitmotorbikes
@Tigitmotorbikes Год назад
The truth is that 4000km is the point where the Honda XR 150 will run out of oil. So your 3000km is bang on the money. Most people doing 3000km, will accidently roll into 4000km, and run out oil. What you say is true though!

The one thing you didn't mention was bike insurance, liability, collision, theft, etc. Is insurance mandatory or optional or even available? and what are the costs for a foreigner renting a 500x for a month? Thanks
@Tigitmotorbikes
@Tigitmotorbikes 2 года назад
It is a good point and I will make a video on the topic. The short answer is. Get insurance from home, which you can do providing you are driving legally. Damages to the bike, we cover at Tigit for $7 a day, or $50 for the month on the CB 500. No excess or hidden terms. We just don't charge for crashes if our damage waiver is bought.

This is the main thing that I holding me back/that concerns me too. I’m not sure insurance is available here (isle of man) to cover a rental bike in Vietnam which rules out these trips for me. I’m off to the adventure bike show in Uk next week and hope to find a solution there as Vietnam/Loas/Cambodia are on my itchyboots type travel list for my retirement in 3 months.

If you are using a motobike to travel to remote villages watch out for robbery by local policement. see this story for more details: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_S0zHSfCcOI.html

I get that you're trying to sell your rentals here, but a bit more info on buying bikes would have been helpful. All you did was pick out the shittiest option and just say don't do it
@Tigitmotorbikes
@Tigitmotorbikes Год назад
There are not many options. Two markets, one is Chinese market (Honda Win, Chinese Wave, really old scooter like a Yamaha Nouvo). These backpackers can easily buy and sell. When it comes to real bikes, a real Honda semi, Yamaha Exciter, Honda Winner or Honda XR 150 then the process of name changing on bluecards becomes a blockade for a tourist selling them. Basically you can buy the bike, but not sell it. Also all above models mentioned are $600 + So there isn't much to document or talk about. You either buy cheap and Chinese, or you rent something.
@tolga1cool
@tolga1cool Год назад
@@Tigitmotorbikes Thanks for the info! Sounds good - you're right though, not much info on that online sadly. I'm gonna spend the next 5-6 months in VN hence I think that buying a "real" bike would be worth it. What do you think? Oh, and plus I know a few locals too that might be able to help with the sale if time gets to be a problem towards the end of the stay
@Tigitmotorbikes
@Tigitmotorbikes Год назад
@@tolga1cool www.tigitmotorbikes.com/motorbikes-in-vietnam/ Also try the company "the extra mile". They have a service for sourcing bikes for expats. (not travelers). But if you are sticking around it counts as an expat I suppose :D
@tolga1cool
@tolga1cool Год назад
@@Tigitmotorbikes Interesting! Ill look into those. I'm gonna spend most of my time in Hanoi (there for an exchange semester) starting this May, but plan on riding a lot through the north and middle of the country, maybe all the way to HCM too if time allows. Back at home I ride a KTM 990 ADV so I definitely would like to do some offroad too, hence why I am not so sure which bike or type of bike would be best suited for 2/3 city riding with the last third being long tours with some offroading. A scooter definitely is best in town, but I am skeptical when it comes to touring comfort and capabilities in the mountains and on shitty roads. Is there sth like "the extra mile" in Hanoi too?
