My employer installed chargers and employees could charge for free. The problem was the people who owned EVs were mostly middle and upper management. Rank and File employees said that was unfair and they wanted a cash mileage allowance. The chargers were removed.

Having a charger at home is a real advantage. If you own a home it's easy if you don't look for an apartment that offers Level 2 chargers. It's not just cost it's time savings and the fact you don't waste time, energy, and money getting to a charger, waiting for the charge, and then going back home. That's no better than fuel. The goal should be to charge at night and be ready for a full day of driving.
@anthonymalovrh2912

Installing a home charger can be much less than $2000. The electrician was ~ $300 to install the breaker, wiring & outlet. Chargers vary, but can be had for less than $200.

You only charge at night if you have a private charger. For the millions of cars that can't access a private charger, they''ll be waiting. Also, just understand the madness of this. Night time power is generated by FOSSIL FUELS. The "renewable" power is only available at on-peak hours. So, in order to make your EV economical and practical, your EV has to be powered by FOSSIL FUELS.
@JD-ey8hw

@@JD-ey8hw Most "renewables" don't work at night, at least not well enough to power the grid. Also, to say fossil fuel generation is more efficient is nonsense. When you connect to a fossil generator, your EV effectively is an ICE vehicle.

@@therabidsquirrelsage3388 Engines last much longer than batteries before breaking down. And when they do break, engines don't typical need an entire replacement or overhaul. Often, it's something relatively simple and cheap. What's more, engines don't degrade, batteries do. After 30+ years, as long as it's maintained, a good quality engine will still perform similar to new. A li-on battery will not only not last anywhere as long, it will become less and less usable with age.

By the way, most vehicles nowadays are interference engines. And most EV batteries don't entirely fail. One battery cell out of six or seven fail, because there aren't a bunch of parts spinning at thousands of RPM, it doesn't tear the rest of the battery to pieces. And even when the EV batteries are no longer suitable for use in cars, they can still be sold for use in energy storage so they aren't completely worthless. like your engine detonated itself.
