The Cost of Over-Amplified Torque｜Thrustmaster T248 Review 

Awesome review! I developed a mod to bring FFB to a game that does not support it, and it's clear (from a developer view) that speed is *very* important. Even more than torque, in my opinion, as the speed is what allows the car to self-correct like in reality. Torque is still very important - you can't get accurate speed (wheel acceleration) if you don't have the torque. I hope other reviewers will also pay attention to rotation speed, as it's so important but so overlooked.

The T248 led me to getting a T300RS and T-LCM pedals... So I returned the T248. It's actually not a bad wheel. I think the hybrid drive is a great idea, but for me they dropped the ball on not allowing interchangeable steering wheels.

I couldn't have asked for a better wheel. I tried several times, but racing games are not for me. What I am really into is Truck Simulators, and this wheel is perfect for them because of all the extra encoder buttons. You can map a lot of truck functionalities on the wheel and very rarely have to use mouse and keyboard to control things such as: Cruise control, increase/decrease/resume, beacon and hazard, headlights, highlight beams, engine break, lift/drop axle for truck and trailer, engine break potency, open map, etc. You can do it all via encoders. At first it's hard to memorize everything, but after doing it for a while it becomes sencond nature, and that for me, is when this wheel truely shines.

400 for a wheel that is still made of hard plastic is kinda iffy on my book, Im paying nearly half a thousand for something that still feels like a Mcdonalds play place, maybe if they release a revised version of it feeling more premuim than plasticy I would for sure recommend it for starting out wheel, better than G29 though but not on price.

i found that lubricating gears with silicone oil does wonders for smoothness and noise. My t150 was a lot better after lubrication

I have the t248 as an upgrade to a TMX. My main gripe is the dead zone and ability to drift can be cumbersome. I have not used a T300 so don't know the difference in that respect but the T300 availibility was an issue and DD wheels are just too expensive for me. The T248 is a good compromise wheel if you want a good pedal set included. I can work around its imperfections and don't have anyone to complain about the noise it makes. You pays your money...

Glad I bought the T300. Swap wheels when I want. No gear's. Pedals might be better as I bought the RS version. But I can upgrade to a decent set when I'm ready. Plus I'm starting out so the pedals are fine until I improve.

If anyone is unsure about the wheel here's my input(similar experience to video): Pedals: They're pretty nice for a budget wheel overall but the can slip a but if you don't have anywhere to fasten them. Wheel: I find it extremly anyoing how it clunks and rattles if you let go of the wheel, crash or drive at low speeds. You can disable it in settings but you loose some feedback. The self centering is a real problem. You have a Boost option in drivers thats a bit faster but it doesn't completely fix it. The shifter: I don't mind thats it loud but sometimes it MISSES A SHIFT. I not sure if it's a me problem but it happes sometimes. The clamp: I use it on my wooden desk and it unfortunately slowly creeps forward when drifting so you have to readjust every now and then. I got it for 100EUR total for a slightly used wheel. For the price I'd say it's worth as a used t300/t500 would probably be at least double and much older.

I bought a T128(the cheaper, weaker,smaller version) and i was attempting to learn to drift on GT7. This explains why it was a bit more different than i anticipated. We'll see if a T300RS makes a difference

What setup do you use for most of your videos?

Thank god I didn't buy it instead of my T300. T300 feels quick enough for drifting. I started from G923 and the car was most likely understeering due to slow FFB. When I bought T300 the car was straightend in most cases of losing control instead of spinning out. Great review, you did a good job making it so people like me who starting on sim drifting won't make mistakes(as I did when bought G923, lol).

Got this for 250 to replace my t80, can't complain

Can't find t300 except for very expensive on ebay, and have had to ship 2 back already, listed as like new but didn't work when arrived, so may have no choice put to get 248 unfortunately

來說個笑話，原本打算轉手T500入T300的我，基於力回饋特性與個人使用習慣等，打算之後要換，直上Simagic的Alpha Mini，畢竟我已經習慣大力道+長時間激烈操駕，T300絕對很容易被我玩到過熱，怕久了會玩壞，原本看到T248有點心動，但想起他也只是入門級別的產物之後...... 我還是繼續用T500好了，先換腳感更好踏板再說。

3:13 yes, the hydrid drive does make noise, but it is still better than something like the Logitech G29, which just shakes and clunks all over the place

No matter how good the t248 is, I don't think it can exceed the t300.

Now in the country where I live, I can buy it cheaper than Logitech G29 or G920. If I had the money to buy the T300RS GT edition, I could buy the T248 and TH8A. This is very troublesome.

T300 has overheat issue when setting to 100% FFB, it will power off automatically when it overheated. I sold it for this reason. Also its pedal is easily malfunction.

I decided to return the T248 after about an hour playing. It’s not a particularly interesting wheel but the physical noise was just annoying. It’s affecting me enjoying the sound effects of the game. 😅😅😅😅😅

Imo the entry level wheel should always gets cheaper. The fact that this wheel enters T300 territory while nowhere near better is absolutely ridiculous. No one should really buy this. Better get that good ol T150.

So basically the gear ratio is short af which makes drifting very hard. Bruh

i’ve had both these wheels. the t300 is Zion’s in front. the 248 is highly disappointing, it’s loud and has horrible vibrations! the only good thing is the screen.. highly recommend not buying it!

Looks like it's biggest issue is the weak motor, bet it could be fixed with a good hobby grade R/c motor swap.

Easy hack for the shifters... Just throw rubber bands in there. Problem solved

my friend got this against my suggestion, and it's trash in every way doesn't even self center, the only good thing going for it are the buttons and pedals, and even it's not worth the price tag, my friend played it for two days I played it once and he sent it back, he's getting the t300, even the g920 is better than the t248 in terms of feel, etc the plastic etc feels bad and is not comfortable and really just looks like a toy honestly

I own this ⚓, don't buy, pedals are ok I guess.

A year later and there's now a SIGNIFICANT price gap. 🤷 The T248 is $300 while the T300RS GT is $450 AND has worse pedals. When it was only like a +$50 price gap stepping up to the T300RS GT made ALLLL the sense in the world, inferior pedals and all, but at +$150??? That's a much, MUCH harder decision.
