I would work for this guy. I was working at a steel mill for 18.5 years 7 days a week swinging shifts. It wrecked my health. They wrote me up for being sick and suspended me one day for 5 call offs on one year. I was working every day and I was constantly sick. They wanted me to write a letter stating how I can improve on my attendance. I went home talked it over with my girlfriend. She said I will type the email but you will have to hit send. That letter she emailed was my resignation. No regrets just uncertainty of finding something. I pictured myself being put in the ground by the time I was 55. I had to quit that job
5 sick days are nothing. The US needs to step up its game. Of you are sick 20 days you should have 20 sick days. That's it. Good for you for putting your health first.
I am currently on two months unpaid leave to relieve stress try and lower my blood pressure and figure out a way to earn a living without being dangerously stressed out every week. The management and people in power at the company operate with such contempt towards the workers even just the way you’re spoken to sometimes but they know we need the salary. I can’t wait to leave I’ve truly had enough although from what I’ve heard there are high levels of stress in all work environments. God help us all.
As a nurse, I burnt out within 2 years as a young 20 something year old. I developed anxiety, had gained all this weight I didn’t know I could and my rltshp was strained because I was always irritable. The management was terrible. The amount of risks involved in a medical professionals job is so much higher (I always worry ill give the wrong meds due to all the distractions). There was no support from management, only blame culture. If not a for a few supportive coworkers I would’ve left the industry. I’m a lot better now in a sense that I restrain myself so I don’t give too much of myself at work in order to protect myself. It’s not how I would ideally work but I can guarantee the company will not be paying for my mental and physical health conditions I develop from the extreme stress.
This is exactly what I have been experiencing. It’s no joke being a nurse. The demands are so high on us because there isn’t 5 of us doing the job that one person is supposed to do. I do have a lot of anxiety, and I do find myself eating just to eat. I guess getting one break In a 12 hour shift makes me binge eat because I’m scared I won’t be able to eat for the rest of the day. The distractions are one of the most difficult things to manage too. I’m really trying to work on not giving too much of myself at work, because I’m burning out quick. Thank you for replying, it feels good to relate to someone.
As far as I see, most of the people working in hospitals are over HIGH-stress levels. Why don't you, guys, try sitting together in your workplace and understanding where is the problem and finding the solution for it?
I’m in my 20s, & I recently left a company with toxic culture. No changes came from concerns I voiced, and they were somehow surprised when I gave them my notice 6 months later. The stress and anxiety of the job led me to gain back the 30 lbs I had worked hard to lose 2 years before, & I was diagnosed with GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), which I am now working to recover from. Months later, I am still struggling with the effects it’s had on my mental health, but I have absolutely no regrets in leaving. I’m glad I finally decided to be honest with myself & take care of my health, b/c damn is it expensive to repair!
@Meow🐈 Try to reach a state of equanimity. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back erect, hands on lap with palms upwards, eyes closed, be still and observe your natural incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 10-15 minutes or more. Let thoughts come. Slowly negative thoughts will reduce and relax the mind. Whenever you are free during the day or night sit still for a few minutes and observe your breath. Being still reduces negative thoughts. Make it a habit. Do the above meditation regularly to have a relaxed life. Best wishes Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.
Sounds like my situation too :o I left one toxic job that left me so stressed and sick after 7 months, just to end up at another even MORE toxic job that I left after 8 months.... And now... Low and behold... ANOTHER EVEN MORE TOXIC JOB.... I used to be such a calm, collected person, but now, I feel sick all the time, I don't even enjoy my free time, and everything feels hopeless... Idk if it's covid, or what, but.... It makes my years of hard work in high school and college feel like thyy were worthless...
I took two months unpaid leave just to relieve stress and care for myself better and figure out a way to earn a living without putting myself through so much stress we do not get the downtime to truly relax and focus on lower blood pressure and body fat it’s truly sad this was such an important ted talk
My workplace gives us an over abundant amount of information. Emails, having to do way too many tests every day on work-based learning and cleaning up corporate mess is a huge issue in my workplace. Too much information makes it hard to process. It causes so much stress and burnout for me. I'm also a perfectionist and that makes it even more so. Not to mention micromanagement which is another huge issue.... these managers are 'trained' to micromanage. ,
I work in insurance and it has made me lose my faith in humanity. Having the finger pointed at you and getting cursed up and down all day when you’re just following a policy has crushed my soul. I can’t financially afford to leave, but being at work makes me physically ill to the point where after I hang up from a tough call I have to go use the bathroom. I never knew growing up would be this stressful.
I’m so sorry that’s terrible! Dealing with such a stressful job is awful, sometimes I just want to quit my job and runaway but we feel trapped because we have to pay rent and bills. Stay at your job in the meantime keep looking for something better.

Ever since I was promoted to a manager, the amount of stress is just unbelievable. The pay is a bit better, but my mental health is both physically and mentally deteriorating.
I’m going through the same thing. I keep dreaming of demoting myself to my former position but I hate to give up. It’s wearing on my body though. Best of luck to you!
@@prettytaurus3671 I feel the same way also 3rd shift manager I being doing 3rd for 10 years now I do work in a battery company with lead the pay is good no sick day pay that sucks but I never call off anyways unless I travel I bid out to 1shift haven’t herd anything yet it will be a pay cut of almost 200 a week and that’s what makes me think about it but it is very stressful dealing with people that don’t want to work or care at all sometimes I do feel I wish I can go back to my normal job get my money go home and do me but the money also makes me think just because I want to retired early and keep traveling
I am experiencing high blood pressure and pulse . Had to take a week leave. I am getting chills 😭 when I get work related mails. Sometimes I think it will kill me.
Stress has rarely something to do with the work itself. Mostly Brandolini's theorem is a great sum up for problems and stress at work: "The amount of energy needed to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude bigger than to produce it."
We do not want to live to work, and dream of the time when we will not have to work to live. Everything has a price: we can buy a car now and pay for it later; but we cannot live now and do the work later 🖖
I will not be telling any corporation about how stressed out I am working for their company. There is no open door policy with any CEO. If you talk to them, they will ambush you.
Corporations are owned by wealthy people but a stress at a work place comes to poor people. So, there is no need for wealthy people to change smth. Wealthy people are wealthy already. What benefits will they get from reducing stress on their employees? More money? But they don't need more, they already have enough to rule politicians and lawmakers, buy super luxuary houses, yachts and jets. So, this poor world condition has appeard due to avarice and there are no reasons to expect that something will be changed by means of a free will.
Thanks a million for speaking about the reality of a stressful work environment. I have experienced this situation as well as many others i know. It's never about a difficult job. It about the difficult bosses and management. I have many . that one day i will write about and speak about it too. God blessed you🙏
I feel like I just need to talk to someone sometimes and pour it all out. I keep everything inside because everyone has their own problems in life and I don't want to bother anyone, I also think my friends will look at me like come on suck it up. I just lost my Mom and started a new job that is hard to get used to. My Dad is constantly in and out of the hospital as well. I just want to scream for help sometimes.
Thank you for your thoughts. I agree. I am sitting in my car right now on my lunch break and watching this video. One of the other comments said that it is not the job itself but the people. Agreeing 💯.
Anxiety burned me out last week, now I'm totally burned out, leaves me confused even at work. I have been unable to close a candidate for any role since March when I was employed. I am doing everything right, my boss keeps delegating duties and re-delegating and rearranging, the environment isn't active, I'm having a lot of responsibility with little money, barely can save... I can't save actually. My leg keeps getting sore.... I can feel myself burning and not wanting to wake up to work. I'm so tired I don't look forward to Mondays. 😭
11 people from the workplace i work at already resigned because management is the bottleneck in the company people that worked there for 25 + years then i new boss came in and everything went downhill from there we need to do more machines for the same pay + alot of people are suffering stress that is increasing .
I worked for a tech startup with the best workplace environment and benefits ever. But in the end, I got laid off because the company had major internal issues among the team members with political, management, and leadership, etc. The entire company had to downsize by 40%. Then I realized that the most important part of a small startup is teamwork.

I'm not sure where you're located, but in the UK education level doesn't equate to wealth or happiness. It can help for sure, but investing lots of time into education here isn't a guarantee return. I've known many people have taken higher education to be no further forward, and others who magically ended up in high paying roles despite having low education.
It also depends what you study. I would advise young people to avoid the humanities/social sciences and go into the trades. Or, if you are going for humanities, find the quickest and cheapest program. Most office workers just need *a* degree, any degree. So there's no point in wasting time and money on elaborate university programs, many of which are just left-wing political brainwashing anyway (I am a recent graduate of one such program in a major North American public university).

Very spot on. The focus of the investments by companies are measured by revenue as their metric. Health of the employees has been shown to promote all divisions of company growth yet its not taught in our universities or in industry to the same extent as finance. Every CEO should see this to create vibrant environments for people and productivity.
I couldn't agree more with you, Brendan. I think that there is already a good awareness and more and more leaders started taking care of their employees. In the future, it's going to be even better.
Our workplace should actually incoperate some stress related test to be done every quater and give their employees a break accordingly or atleast deploy some professionals ,so that they can help us deal with it!

Underpaid wages causes stress.. paying more will boost up productivity and healthy living it won't be 2.. trillion dollar expense but a Great 4 trillion dollar profit.. Nice one!
All of the jobs i worked sucked. I was not payed, insulted, taken advantage of,mobbed by other coworkers. I just lost it and now im on a disabled pension and cant work anymore.
He looks nice and I also agree about his opinion But in the modern company don's consider manything they just Interest about profit only for themselves:)
Yeah i lost half of my sight cuz there was bleeding near my brain and it damage my eyesight nerve system. It's all bcuz of hypertension from workplace. It's all happened at my home so basically i can't sue the company cuz of it and then here i am. I've to hide my disability from other just bcuz no company want to cover all of your insurance and stuff

Thank you for this. I am living the life of a single mother too. I drown in guilt everyday for being irritable towards my child, I end up making tiny mistakes in my recent highly stressful job - I'm supposed to be on alert 24/7. I am thankful for the job and can't think of other choices as I'm worried I wouldn't get an opportunity like this especially being a mother. When I talked to my company, I was told that I was tested for my stress handling style. I mean it was a nightmare with only 3 hours of sleep everyday. So much that the stress test hasn't ended yet. The companies need to be more humane rather than being greedy for profits.
I’m sorry for what you are going through right now. Having 3 hours sleep is no way to live your life. I get that you have commitments with your children so it is hard to see another way out. Just know that your sleep time is important and that you matter as a person
I don’t get how they expect us to be productive while overworked and unhappy. My happiest days were during covid lower working hours I was more productive than the usual work hours. And that’s everyone’s revelation. And yet as soon as we went back to 100% functioning, they went back to the usual health wrecking depressing routine.
Why many TED talkers act like they recite a poem? I hate how TED encourages this way of showing off. This doesn't mean that there are not great presenters on TED who understand and know what they are talking about.
My job is chill but the management is bad . I have like 4 managers each say one thing . I’m also a back up cashier and when I need to finish marking down a whole section of sales floor I can’t cause I get called up to the register. And I loose time and all the other co workers get mad cause I didn’t finish and I’m off the next day and marking down never gets finished by me not even my managers say anything but the co workers . The main manager hasn’t even said nothing about me , I show up and ask what is my task for today and I keep asking when I completed each thing he says so I won’t be standing . I wish the co workers knew what it is to be callled up to register and deal with customers sometimes I think they’re a bit envious cause I can do multiple things around the store and they have to be in one place all day . I work at a thrift store by the way
Poor supervisors with the employee = slave mentality. Passive aggressive retaliation for speaking up. Employee advocates are needed in house. Trust is nearly extinct in these environments. The ability to anonymously speak, comment, request, report is needed also with a public acknowledgement that the comment has been received and will be addressed.
I am too feeling like this, like there is something in my stomach, there are vibrations happening in my stomach , why can't people be kind? I don't know how I will be able to take it..Its isn't easy to do
I feel like I'm stuck in a tight spot I work at a pastry and also go to school right after work i have noticed that when I try to much or to less at any of those my performance just drops and I dont know what to do im just 18 and don't really have anyone to turn to i just i dont know what to do i just do and it really burns me out to the point I just skip school and miss important classes cause if I don't im just scared I will just collapse:/

Friend, I am sure you are watching English speaking videos. Another tip to speak and improve English is to talk to any one friend daily for 1 or 2 minutes on the mobile phone and talk on anything. Ask questions like "How are you? "What did you have for breakfast? Do you enjoy watching TV shows? etc. The person on the other side must also reply and ask you simple questions. All question -answers must be in full sentence and not one word. Even if you ask silly questions it is ok. After 10 days of practice start speaking longer sentences. If you do the above practice your English will improve a lot in 20 days because you will start thinking in English. Best wishesa. Shyaaam Sir- Counsellor.
"I work with wealthy families and help them achieve their financial goals" This is what made me stop, less than one minute into the video. Want to know why most people's lives are stressfull when they do not need to be? Because they work hard for little when the economy raises when pay does not and debt increases, putting strain on the "average lifestyle" ruining lives and the country. It's time we treated people like people, and everyone is a person. You cannot expect to relieve stress when you assist those that hoover all the resources for themselves, you make suffering exponential.
