I loved loved LOVED the transition from her revealing dresses to the conservative ones she wore after her imprisonment. I also noticed she covered up immediately once she achieved her goal of becoming queen. I just learned of your channel and I'm subscribing immediately.
I also thought because Tommen was younger and sweeter than Jeoff. She could play with Jeoff desire, but perhaps Tommen was mora like a child (at least until the wedding night) and she needed to aproach a more subtle path to him. Being a queen on the street and a Tyrell on the sheets
I love hating Margery's final look. Costumes shouldn't just be pretty they should help further the story. It's fitting with the religious fundemantalism that's taking over the capital that she should wear something shapeless and plain.
I think that Cersei wears black because she is in mourning and is dead inside, at least that's what Michele Clapton said. Why do you think Margaery wears grey?
People are like, "Oh, you like Game of Thrones? Watch House of Cards." But I'm like, "Half of the reason I watch it is for the clothes and hair... haha XD
e batdorf House of Cards has great costumers, particularly on Claire Underwood. Many of the more important events in the show often rely on her picking an appropriate dress or look to emphasise a point or accommodate the events. Honestly, the costumes are important in GoT but House of Cards is sophisticated chic and cold.
Margaery is one of my favorite chatacter, she's kinder than Cersei but more cunning than Sansa. I love her outfits, she had a lot of variety of gowns in the show. It's so sad to see her die, I'm gonna miss her on the show, ofcourse Natalie Dormer. Winter is here!
I think Margaery's final look, reminiscent of Cersei's final gown was spot on. Margaery was shrewd and knew to trump Cersei she'd have to dress the part. I say "Well Done." It's not her "look," but she knows it. She dressed down to go along with the deception of her changed world view in "The Light of the Seven," and almost pulled off this ruse.
Of course! I cosplay, and most of my cosplays are sewn by me. I love it, even if embroidery is going to kill me one day. Like, someone will ask me, "Mari, did your cat bite you?" Me: No, needles are just trying to assassinate me.
Lovely video! I can't wait to watch your other ones! I love love love Margaery and I loved how her style transitions. She was so clever in how she dresses, showing off her youth to spite Cersei and the cheeky little cut outs that were sexy to seduce Joffrey. The switch to more modest clothing after the wedding showed how calculate it all was. And the rose motif was so great, sometimes blatant sometimes subtle but it was clear she was a Tyrell first and foremost regardless of who she was married to.
Yeah, I think Natalie Dormer was a true sport about that. I think Michele Clapton did get some flack about it and then tried to justify it - I'm not sure why.
I think Sansa, Dany, and Margaery wear the most beautiful costumes. I adore your videos and all the information you give on the different fabrics, patterns, etc. I'd love to get your opinion and expertise on the costumes of Magnificent Century and Magnificent Century Kosem. They're Turkish historical fiction dramas full of gorgeous costumes for both women and men. Great video as always! I'm looking forward to more of your House of the Dragon videos!
@@Costume_CO I think it's available on Netflix and here on RU-vid, but it'd probably be a good idea to ask around. I've been watching the free clips here on RU-vid, but the translation from Turkish to English can be a bit rough.
She shared Anne's desire to be queen and she knew how to play the seductress but that's really as far as it goes. Anne seemed to have anger issues that she had trouble concealing, but Margaery portrayed a image of kindness. The people loved Margaery; they hated Anne.
I´m following your channel like any other series: popcorn, cat on the lap and comfy sofá. Truly enjoyable video, thank you for taking the time and effort to research all this :D
To add to opinion of the last few costumes, they became high collared and closed off to symbolise people preparing for winter. It shows that the climate is becoming colder and the political climates requires more careful preparation. Furthermore the 'nun'-like gown mimics the style of the of religious folk which also mimics the style in the North at Winterfell in the first season. Showing that these costumes are connected to the relationships immediately surrounding the characters and the relationship to the world as a whole.
Fantastic! I wish I had found these videos when they were new! I loved Margaery's dresses and had recently been looking around for a photo album that might feature all the detail on them, and other costumes designed for GoT. So lovely! Looking forward to seeing more of these! Sansa will be next!!
I'm watching all your videos now, you've got a fan for life ! ❣I love hearing about all the symbolism of the embroidery work, its extraordinary❣The metalwork & the care that was taken w/ every piece❣I love hearing about all the inspiration for their costumes also❣ Thank~you again!❣
As far as I know from my little experience in costume design, one of the more practical reasons for the distinct colors for the Capulets and Montagues is so that the audience always has an easy method of delineating who belongs on which side. As for more symbolic reasons, I'm not the most versed. Otherwise, a very interesting video. I just found your channel and I already find it to be incredibly interesting. Since I'm planning on going into costume design, your in-depth analysis on the construction and the reasoning behind them is incredibly valuable to me. Keep up the good work!
+Matthew Bradley I don't know if there is any symbolism, and like you said, it just makes it easy to tell them apart. I think the same goes for GOTs. With the colours, you sort of know what region you're in. Now that we're in season 7 however and everyone is coming together, the palette is more homogenous. Thank you so much for commenting. I always love hearing from aspiring costumers.
I thought Marjorie was one of the most interesting characters on the show, I loved the Tyrell family and was so sad when their storyline ended... her costumes were always so fun and stunning... except for that burrito dress hahahaha
I actually like Margaery's funnel dress and my sister does too, but I know it's not her best. Besides her first wedding dress, my favorite dresses of hers is probably the gold one after she gets married to Tommen because it's clearly a "screw you" to Cersei, since it's like Cersei's dresses but with the revealing neckline. She only wears it once but I love it. My third favorite is her Winds of Winter dress.
I actually loved the funnel dress. Especially as in those scenes it was extremely cold. It was kind of sexy Margery meets winter on the battlefield dress. It’s a battle dress.
Cristina Bojorquez Thank you so much! I have an episode coming out in the next day and then I can work on the Dany episode hopefully have it out in January!
I was wondering if Margaery's character is inspired by Elizabeth (Lizzie) of York. Because in The White Queen, she said "So whatever happens in the battle, I will be queen" If richard Wins she'll be queen and if Henry wins she's bethroated to him. Catherine can be also the inspiration Of Margaery's character. She's been married to Arthur, after his sudden death, she been married to Henry, Arthur's younger brother. Just like Margaery marrying Tommen after Joffrey died.
Oh, I'm sure George RR Martin was inspired by many historical figures including Elizabeth of York. We know that he used the Wars of the Roses and the Hundred Years War for the basis of GOTs. I was just speculating that I thought that Anne Neville matched up quite nicely. I haven't seen the series yet but I intend to watch it. :)
Rome Blanchard I'm pretty sure she, or at least the Tyrells, were inspired by Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon. Henry VIII family sigil/badge was a Tudor rose, almost the exact same as the Tyrell. When he and Catherine were married they combined the rose with Catherine's family sigil/badge the pomegranate in a very similar way to Magaerys crown.
This video was awesome, I'm so excited to start binge watching this channel!!! Thank you thank you thank you. I would love to see one of Anne Boleyn (Natalie Dormer) in the Tudors, or the Tudors series in general as they reuse a lot of outfits and it'd be super interesting to hear what is and isn't accurate, or who you think wore costumes reused best. Thank you again.
Of her final, faux modest look, I actually kind of love the very last. Though, that's probably because I think the fabric is beautiful. RIP House Tyrell
Hi Darian, Yeah, her final two looks have grown on me and I like them more now. I just checked and realised that it was just over a year ago that I did this video. Cheers, Heidi.
Really enjoy your videos and analyses :) As for suggestions, it'd be nice if you edit out the voice-over mistakes - although I'd watch your videos, regardless
Do you know how much outfits like Margaery's wedding dress would cost like if you were to have them made? With the same level of craftsmanship of course.
+John Tembo Hey John, I'm not sure. On the show, Michele said it was the most expensive costume they've ever made, although she didn't say the cost. There are Etsy sellers that do this sort of thing, you could check it out there.
Love it!!!! Especially in explaining the backstory behind the design choices and the contrast to Cersei. Would you be open to analyzing costumes of the Henry VIII wives in The Tudors? It'd be great to cover Anne Boleyn :) But I'm especially interested in the costumes for Catherine of Aragon who looked sumptuous.
The video is great but you missed one costume. It is a light grey dress with gold embellishments that Margaery wore during Tommen's coronation in season 4.
I really love the idea of these videos and I think the analysis is spot on! plus I learn a lot everytime I watch =). but you trip over your words fairly frequently, which is distracting. maybe you could try a couple takes of each point and practice saying them out loud a few times first, just so everything sounds smooth?
This is a really interesting video! I just feel the production could improve, like audio recording and editing out mistakes in speech, but that’ll come with time! Thank you for all the research you put into this!
Hi Alonna, I'm a bit behind because of the holidays, but I should have one out soon. I'm going to aim to have a Daenerys costume breakdown in the new year.
REALLY love these videos! Please, what happens to all the costumes & jewelry after the character leaves the show, or no longer wears It? Will there be a G.O.T. costume museum or something? They're too beautiful & costly to dispose of or break down.
Hi Pamela, My understanding is that in the first season - before they knew that the show would be a hit - many of the costumes got taken apart and recycled into newer costumes. Now, all of the costumes are catalogued and stored. Many of the costumes, jewelry, and weapons travel and are exhibited in various tours. They is a new tour planned that is starting in Madrid, but there have been no announcements made when it will be going next. Once the show wraps after season 8, they might auction off the costumes, but I suspect they will keep the principal costumes for years to come.
Costume CO THANKS SO MUCH FOR ANSWERING MY QUESTION!!!!!💜 It would be a shame to waste it all, after all the work & detail. The way you break it down, brings it to life, on the show, one only gets a glimpse & cannot appreciate all the thought that went into it all! Ty again!
+Pamela Alsop My pleasure. I think they have learned since Lord of the Rings the importance of preserving these pieces so that everyone can enjoy them for years to come.
I'd be really interested to see the several dozen fabrics and embroidery materials on Daenerys's costumes broken down. The use of texture on her costumes is stunning!
Melody Utter,I have a video planned for Daenerys. In the mean time, you can check out the fabulous handy-work by embroidery artist Michele Carragher: michelecarragherembroidery.com/Daenerys-Dragonscale-Gallery(2880136).htm
I really love your studies of the costumes, I truly enjoy them, but here are my few problems with your quality of the videos: why does the audio sound so poorly in several parts of the video?? And also, sometimes I wonder if you even watch GOT, because of the way you butcher the pronunciation of names and phrases like "valar morghulis" (Also why don't you cut out your little slips of tongue? they're not so bad, but unfortunately distract from you great content!) This is no hate, I just think when the quality of your videos gets better we could enjoy them even more! :)
Look I like the content - it's great. But if you make a mistake just do another take.... it sounds like you're really struggling to get through a script
Hi Robert, I fixed the video on the Costumes of Crimson Peak, but I I had to take down the old video to make it so. Here is the new link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kvqb-UzBG04.html
There's one scene I love between Marg and Cersei where Cersei threatens her because she called her sister but the ladies around her are wearing Marg style looks to show her influence
+larlarinlalaland Haha! I know. Michele Clapton is a bit quirky, so perhaps this is how she looks at it. I think she was trying to squeeze in a tribute to Alexander McQueen and it kind of fell flat.
I've always loved Margery's final dress it's not entirely her but it makes her look classy and grown like a contrast from the cunning lady she was free to be before her imprisonment. I imagine thats what she would wear if she was queen for a longer time or when winter came
I LOVED the "funel" dress! I thought "finally, something different, something edgy!" It went perfectly with her character. And that scene.. "-Do you want to be a queen? - No, I want to be the queen."
Is there one for Joffrey? I think that'd be really interesting, I forgot how flamboyant his style was through the series until I rewatched recently. :)
Which dress Elsa? It's a very hard thing, because depending on the lighting it looks different, but her dress from Sansa's wedding is a soft blue background (on the bodice) with gold embroidery.
I really enjoyed this video. I thought your costume analysis was very thural. Margery is one of my favorite characters on GOT. I especially admire her costumes.
Thank you for the video :) very impressive analysis. I'm just commenting because of the effort you said you put in as I thought it might be helpful - I find the voice over a little distracting when you stumble (as everyone does), so maybe just quickly re-record those parts? Otherwise great video.
+luhole Thank you for the feedback! I have tried to make improvements on the sound quality and my delivery. I hope you find my more recent videos satisfactory.
No worries! Thank you for taking it as constructive feedback and not criticism, because like I said it is a great video. I will be sure to check out your more recent ones! Congrats on an awesome channel and all your hard work :)
Hi Frozen, I don't have a background in hair/wigs but if I learn anything, I will certainly include it in an upcoming video. Thanks so much for commenting!
Hello, have you done a video on favorite and least favorite costumes for the TV show The Tudors? I've never been a fan of what Natalie wears in this show. I honestly didn't like anything from the Tyrell's closet.
Although I haven't watched Game of Thrones myself I certainly know a fair amount about it. I too use clothing to express myself considerably. I actually have friends who can with reasonable accuracy identify what I'm feeling based solely upon what I am wearing.
