TODAY’S VIDEO:
Let’s spend time in the cottage garden today. We planted the garden last year and now I want to add more plants to make it more ‘Cottagy” is that a word? Come along today as we add annual seeds, annual transplants, some vegetables and herbs and get it ready to be BEAUTIFUL!!!
Want to see the garden installed start to finish? Here are the links for the 4 videos we did last year when we installed the garden.

I found your channel when you were first creating the cottage garden with hardscape and evergreens. Girl, you're brave planting flower seeds in that wind, 🍃🍃🍃but I get you. You garden when you can and make the best of it. I've been a seed gardener for decades. In fact, I haven't bought Cosmos seed for over 35 yrs. I betcha after all that time the bees created a new Cosmos variety. I'd call it Cug's Cosmos after my family nickname. Cosmos readily reseeds itself all over my garden. At the moment, it's favoring rocky soil on the side of our driveway where the previous owners laid gravel for additional parking decades ago. Are you planning on planting Foxglove, Verbascum, and/or Delphiniums? They are the first cottagy flowers that come to my mind and elevates one's line of sight like your Hollyhocks and bean teepee. Years ago, when I worked in a garden center, I brought home Statice and planted it in full sun. I kept waiting for it to grow and bush out, but it just sat there doing nothing for most of the summer until I cut a few stems for a garden flower bouquet. Then it took off like no tomorrow! I didn't know that Statice was a cut and come again plant like Zinnias. Live and learn! That's what I love most about gardening. There's always something new to learn and new plants to discover.

No foxglove or delphiniums yet, but I have lupines and verbascum to still plant. I have another video for that, the entry pots, and changing out the roses. That will come out next week or rhe week after....

Lol, I know hollyhocks are biannual, but I think the mother plant does return as I have a monster going right now and Julia Child (rose) is saying move over!😅. I am see a lot of baby HH seedlings everywhere. I have sandy soil Z5a, WI. I started a boat load of new to me flowers this year and expanded the flower garden inside my fenced vegetable garden. I didn’t think borage was going to reseed until I waited a bit and WOW 😮 they are everywhere just like the poppies and I must remember to deadhead some of these aggressive plants. I didn’t thin the poppies enough and they are planning a takeover and Then I had planted 3 other kinds as I didn’t know this And They look like Much bigger plants then the red ones-Oh Boy! The Butterfly Milkweed is fighting for more real estate along with Bee Balm. I always said whatever can survive this sand can go for it-What have I created? This has been the best spring despite the plum tree blossoms getting froze and I don’t want to complain about the rain after getting out of drought Finally-But wow, 10” in 2 weeks is a bit much. Some plants are a bit sick and now All this wind today, the plants are wondering what the heck is going on? Does Mother Nature want us to grow or not as she also cooled our temps. I have planted so many seedlings and sowed many seeds direct that I think I planted on top of each other 😂. When it takes off here it will be a jungle. Good thing some are annuals. Love the channel! Great info! Oh, the Issac House Scabiosa seeds grew well inside. And what I thought were 3 old packs of seed of Amish Cockscomb I threw in winter sow jugs-😂every seed germinated and I had 3 chia pets going 😂. They obviously love to be winter sown. I wanted to mention an odd thing about calendula zeolights that only 2 came up inside and I’ve had them sitting outside in this rain and just all of a sudden over a dozen popped up. It’s odd because I’ve never had to wait that long for seeds to pop. And one last thing-the Mock Orange is blooming 2 weeks early-Should be 14th of June. Never seen that before either.

Did you add fertilizer? I forget in my garden so often!

No. The baby seedlings need a week to just acclimate, and the annuals will get Miracle Grow Sunday as that is my fertilizer day...and herbs...they don't need it.
