So I just want to say how incredibly much I miss U Dave ! Without any doubt U bring something to RU-vid vids I have not found with anyone else yet. L O V E ! U have this amazingly positive / loving energy. It is quite evident, real, and tangible. I TOTALLY understand any absence after such a crazy year. Even if U move on to bigger / better pastures, I simply wanted to compliment, and Thank U for being just who U are !
I bought this hatchet about a year ago after watching this video. By far this is my favorite hatchet I use it more than my knife, and if I could get away with carrying it around in public as a edc tool I'd probably always either have it on my waist or in my hands lol.
Love my woodcraft pack axe!!! I wold like to have all the council tools axes. In the past I didn’t realize how much value for the dollar they had. My first council tools axe was my now favorite axe. Love your videos Dave.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment, my friend! Very well said! My first CT axe showed me the value, as well, and is still one of my absolute favorites! Its great to have you here! -Dave
Good to hear from you, John! So far, its been an excellent little axe! Thank you for watching and happy new year to you and your family, my friend! -Dave
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice, encouraging comment, my friend! I really appreciate that! Have you received your Camp Carver yet? How are you liking it? What were your initial impressions? Is it living up to your expectations? Be sure to keep me posted! -Dave
Oh my goodness I love it. I have been wanting one of these for a while, they are just so expensive in Canada. This is a perfect size for the kind of chopping I do. I often use a saw for falling trees over 6 inches. It is just less work. If I am able to get my hands on one of those there is a video I want to shoot. Just to make some saw vs axe myths go away. Awesome demo Dave I am looking forward to seeing this little beauty in use some more videos. Just for the record you have to be the best at delivering experienced based information on an item. A lot of reviewers come off as salesmen not as outdoors men talking about the proper use of a tool. You nail it all the time. 👍👍🇨🇦
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, my friend! I really appreciate the kind words! I would love to see you make the saw vs axe myth video! Keep me posted, my friend, and happy New Year to you and your family! -Dave
Great to hear from you, Wade! Thank you for taking the time to stop by, my friend! Yes, this axe definitely meets a lot of needs for a small camp/carving axe! Happy New Year to you and your family and I hope to talk with you again soon, brother! -Dave
Thanks for the video Dave. I preordered one of these and I hope I get it very soon. Your videos are a great help by seeing you use these items. They almost always clinch the deal on getting the item of interest. Council tool should be thankful.
That is great to hear that you ordered one, my friend! Did you receive it yet? Where did you order from, if you don't mind me asking? I really appreciate the very kind words and it's been great to have your support over the past year. Happy New Year! -Dave
@@HighCarbonSteelLove Yes I received it and it's great. I ordered one from Whisky River Art and Trading and one from Fiddleback Outdoors. Got 2 of them! Keep up the great work appreciate what you do. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-blZuVObCNOc.html My latest vid.
I have purchased several different axes over the past few years trying to find "the" perfect axe for myself. I really like the look and design and features of this new Council Tools Camp Carver axe, so I think I am going to get one as soon as possible. Thanks for the great review. The absolute best axe that I owned previously was an original Boy Scout version that I had for about forty years, before I broke it by trying to chop some frozen bones apart. It split in the eye of the axe, but I still have it. It had the right size, weight, handle and steel composition for everything that I did in camp. I kept the edge sharp enough to shave with the axe, which I did a couple of time just to prove to my friends just how sharp the edge was! This new Council Tool axe seems to be the perfect replacement!
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment! Sorry to hear about your Boy Scout version axe but I think you are right...this would be the perfect replacement! -Dave
What do you think about this axe vs the wood craft pack axe? Trying to choose between the two and need guidance from someone who’s had both. Does the wood craft pack axe feel too heavy for carving with the extra head weight in comparison to the camp carver?
Looks a beauty ! love the hardened and pronounced poll, a great addition to a superb tool. Thanks again for sharing Dave. All the best from Scotland. Garry
The beautiful, hardened, pronounced poll is definitely something I miss when I carry the CT double bit saddle axe. Something very satisfying about having an extra tool on your axe. Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, Garry! -Dave
Haha..I know what it's like my friend, when you are happy about new gear but the paycheck takes a hit! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, my friend! You support is greatly appreciated! -Dave
I was looking at this axe yesterday.Great to see another one of your videos Dave. Well done my friend. Looks like a great wood carving / camp axe. I may have to purchase this one to add to my collection. Great review and always a pleasure to watch. Take care Dave.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment, Jeff! This axe would fit in really well with your collection! Always a pleasure to hear from you, my friend! -Dave
Ugh, I just acquired two axes for possible winter camping excursions... you're killing me! That hammer pall and the radiused heel/beard just beckon to me. Thanks for sharing!
Great to hear from you, Timothy! I appreciate you taking the time to stop by, my friend! Yes, there is definitely a lot to love about Council Tool! -Dave
Thank you for the kind, encouraging words, my friend! Always great to hear from you! The 90 degree spines on Council Tool's woodcraft line of axes really come in handy! Any vacations coming up? -Dave
Thank you for the kind words, my friend! You are exactly right, an axe is a vital tool to have around! I appreciate you taking the time to stop by! -Dave
Great to hear from you, Dave! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment! I appreciate all of your support over the past year and wish you and your family a very Happy New Year! -Dave
Hi Dave, you did a review of the Velvicut Hudson Bay Belt axe, & now this Camp Carver. My question is if you had to pick which one are you going with???? I am torn!
Nice to hear from you, my friend! So far, this axe has been excellent! Thank you for all of your support and kind words over the past year and I wish you and your family a very happy new year! -Dave
Excellent Dave. I'm just getting into axes. You're very easy listen to. My next step is fully comparing the Gransfors Small Forest Axe with this one. ANY THOUGHTS? Darren.
Hello Dave ! A+ Video ! That Tool looks VERY VERSATILE... Not too big, so easy to pack in the woods. Yet, big enough to get the job done. Take Care, Clark
Very nice to hear from you, Clark! Thank you for the very kind, encouraging words. You are exactly right, easy to pack, yet big enough to get the job done! Well said, my friend. -Dave
Lost you for awhile, then saw your video review of an axe. Looks like it’s been 2 years since you’ve posted anything on RU-vid. Hope all is ok and just life changes are reason. If your on different platforms, please let me know. Cheers
Hello from Pittsburgh, PA. I love your channel and your videos. I was glad to see that you obtained the Woodcraft Camp Carver, because I got the 24" Woodcraft Pack Axe based off of your love for it. Now that you have both, which axe do you find yourself carrying with you most on your adventures into the wilderness? Do you find the Camp Carver to be more practical for more all around camp tasks (with the exception of splitting larger logs)? If you could only have one which one would you keep? Thank you
Looks like a great addition to the Council tool family ! ...I am on the fence at this time between the council tool pack axe and the Gransfors 25" forest axe...Maybe you can offer some pro's and cons to help me with my decision !
Kijika Life I would go with the council. I bought GBA recently and it came poorly forged and hung very improperly. I had e-mailed them and they didn’t get back to me to now I have to modify it to make it a functional tool.
@MountainRecluse Thanks so much for the advice ! I also have the SFA and love the feel for summer and or smaller tasks. As with you here in Eastern Canada we get long and cold winters which sometimes means processing a little larger size wood so the added length would give me a little more swing power, once again thanks
MountainRecluse canadian outdoor equipment I chose to order from them because a lot of other people have had great luck with them but I’m not sure why mine was wonky but the steel is good quality holds an edge pretty good gets scary sharp. Its the outdoor axe and it was nice but the reason I had bought it was because it was supposed to be a bit more of a splitter than the wildlife hatchet but it came way thinner on the cheeks than what I had seen on video reviews and images and I’m a young lad about to turn 16 and dang for me making $180 takes a while but I’m gonna mod it and make it even better than a stock GBA and stick with council tool for my axes. I had emailed Craig 🐔 and he got back to me in a half an hour so that has doubled my respect for him and the company. Im glad to hear your GBA turned out tho.
Perhaps just the regular Council tool boys axe? It comes in 1060 Steel which can throw a spark with a piece of flint. Or step it up a notch and get the velvicut boys axe. There is also some excellent vintage axes for sale as well.
Thank you for watching! I cannot speak for the GB axe, as I have never used one, however, I can say that the Woodcraft Pack Axe is an absolute beauty in every way. Keep me posted, my friend! -Dave
So far, its been an excellent tool, Robert! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your nice comment! Always great to hear form you, my friend! -Dave
Great to hear from you, Rick! So far, this axe has been excellent, my friend! I would like to thank you for your support and kind words over the past year and wish you and your family a very happy New Year! -Dave
Good to see you Dave! I myself do not carry an axe, but really need to..but sadly I know very little about a good axe. Thanks for the review and a bit of info on this axe. I like that they are resonable priced..and Made in the USA!! Take Care, Lee
Great to hear from you, Lee! Thank you for taking the time to stop by and leave your awesome comment, my good friend! I hope you New Year is going well and please say 'HI' to the boys for me! -Dave
Thank you for the kind words, Justin! I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and I wish you and your family a very happy new year, my friend! -Dave
Council Tool is an excellent company and you would love their tools! This axe is definitely a good place to start, my friend! Thank you for watching! -Dave
Would love to buy one, but they don’t sell them online... and I’m not driving 3.5 hrs to a dealer that may or may not have one in stock... are you listening CT?
I have purchased the Fiskers splitter, Estwing 14" leather handled hatchet, and 16" nylon handled camp hatchet since I had said I was going to buy the Husqvarna hatchet, because home depot had a sale, $31, 28$ and chg, and $31 respectively. Now I plan to buy this super cool awesome hatchet instead of the Husky. Thanks my good friend for the awesome review on this awesome cool hatchet.much appreciated my good friend. How are things in NYS? Have a great week brother. Thanks Tennessee
Nice to hear from you, Jeff! I really appreciate that kind words, my friend! Yes, so far this has been an awesome axe! You have a great day, too, and Happy New Year to you and your family! -Dave
Things are going well in NYS, Jeff, thanks for asking. How about things in Tennessee? There is nothing wrong with those axes you purchased. I love my Fiskars splitter and have used an Estwing many times and they are very fun to use! You have a great week, too, brother! -Dave
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment, my friend! I hope your Christmas was good and I wish you and your family a very happy new year! -Dave

Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, my friend! It's great to hear from you and I wish you and your family a happy new year! -Dave
Great to hear from you, John! Sorry about that, my friend...here you go - counciltool.com/shop/wood-craft/2-wood-craft-camp-carver-16-curved-handle-mask/. -Dave
Thanks for the video Dave. I bought that bigger one you have there and I was under the impression there was a smaller one (shorter handle) with the exact same head. Just in the past couple days I started seeing videos of this "Camp Carver". Is this the same axe that came out alongside the larger one?
Thank you for taking the time to watch, Michael! Great question. This Camp Carver is not the smaller version of the Woodcraft Pack Axe. The Woodcraft Pack Axe comes in a 24" (the one you and I have) and also a 19" handle. The Woodcraft Camp Carver is the newest edition to the Woodcraft line of axes and is a "little sibling" of either the Woodcraft Pack Axe 19" or 24". Similar, but different than our Woodcraft Pack axe. Hope this help, my friend! Happy New Year! -Dave
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice, encouraging comment, my friend! It's always great to hear from you, Isaac, and thank you for the cheers from Sweden! -Dave
Thank you for the kind words, my friend! I think you would absolutely love this axe! I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and I wish you and your family a very happy new year! -Dave
You would absolutely love this axe, Jade! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, my friend! Great to hear from you! -Dave
Those axes are gorgeous. 5160 steel sounds interesting on an axe. If it works on a knife why not an axe. Take care & keep enjoying the great out of doors Dave.
Nice to hear from you, Marco! Council Tool uses 5160 on all their premium axes and it's an excellent steel! You take care, too, my friend and I look forward to talking with you again soon! Hope the puppy is doing well! -Dave
You would absolutely love this axe and it will be perfect for your camp tasks! Thank you for taking the time to stop by and keep me posted, my friend! -Dave
I hope you had a great Christmas and I also hope your New Year is going well, my friend! I think you would absolutely love this axe! I've never used a GB but I would always go with the USA made, customer-friendly Council Tool! -Dave
Thank you for the kind words, William! I love the CT saddle axe! I like that this axe has the hardened poll that our Saddle axe doesn't have for hammering. -Dave
Hey Dave. The new camp carver looks awesome. The hammer poll completes the usefulness indeed. What do you use to sharpen your axes in the field ? Sharpening pucks, long stones, rods, files, etc ?? Can't wait to see this little axe in action soon.
Thank you for watching, Brian! Nice to hear from you, my friend! Yes, the hammer poll is awesome! In the field, I have a WorkSharp Field Sharpener, a Lanky puck and a small leather strop. I also always have a ceramic rod in my kit. Great question! -Dave
Hey Joe! Thank you for watching, my friend! Still using the Kamrat, it just hasn't gotten a lot of camera time lately..haha! Happy New Year to you and your family! -Dave
? They made it with a 22 inch handle now. Were that a curved handle instead aswelle (as the Pack 19 and 24 models) I'd decide for it right away. Why on earth did they do it with a strait handle - to not loose the marked of the CT Pack axe 21: ? Please someone (and more) to convince me a strait handle makes more sens)
I Can’t wait to receive the one I recently purchased. Which one is your favorite if you could only bring one. The woodcraft pack axe or the Camp Carver?
You are going to love this axe, my friend! While I love this axe a lot, if I could only bring one, I would go with the Woodcraft Pack Axe. The 24" handle offers a bit more versatility, however, the Camp Carver is the perfect companion axe and very easy to pack! Thank you for taking the time to stop by! -Dave
Thank you for watching, my friend! This site just received some in and the price is good with free shipping - wisementrading.com/wood-working/council-tool/council-tool-2-wood-craft-camp-carver-16″-curved-handle-mask/. -Dave
Thank you for the kind words, my friend! I appreciate you taking the time to stop by! A smaller, lighter version would be interesting, for sure! I have this CT camp hatchet for smaller jobs - www.amazon.com/Council-Tool-125hu-Camp-Axe/dp/B000IJRJ2U - however, it's no longer available. -Dave
Sorry about that, my friend....here you go - counciltool.com/shop/wood-craft/2-wood-craft-camp-carver-16-curved-handle-mask/. Thank you for taking the time to stop by! -Dave
Sir, you are a lover of small blades so the use of Axes should be one of demands. In Japan, we are not free to cut down any trees unless we have an ownership of lands but you may not have such a rule. Therefore, the usage of Axes will greatly help you to stay in the wood land during this season.
Thank you for watching and leaving your excellent comment! Here in New York State, we are not under the same rule, depending on the area and you are exactly right about the axe, my friend! -Dave
