As an Interpreter myself I very much like the bit where Jake Gyllenhall says: "you're here to translate" and the Interpreter replies: "actually I am here to interpret" happens to us all the time
This really hits deep - as a veteran I saw the hundreds of Afghans our government stabbed in the back and left to die out there. Many, many of our soldiers owe their lives to the Afghans who helped us out. Glad they're making a movie about this
I wish more people like yourself would write books about their time overseas and the things that they witnessed. I am sure it would make an impact on many folks.
@White Dom read the comment again, never once said "all" afghans. Read any book about that war from someone who was there, it's common knowledge at this point..
If I'm honest: At first I thought this was going to be just another standard 'American soldier returns from war, has PTSD' movie but this looks legit interesting. Too many interpreters and other people who helped the US troops were left behind, only to be killed or tortured by the Taliban. The fact it's a Guy Ritchie movie also fills me with hope.
@@thadood4373 i was 101st for my 1st deployment, then TN national guard for my 2nd and 3rd, and 7 years as a contractor in Afghanistan after that. I was over there up until the shutdown of Bagram.
I've always said this about firefighters. When everyone else is screaming, panicking and rushing out of a building ... those brave men and women are the ones going in, call after call. Same goes for our police who could be pulling over a soccer mom or a member of a drug cartel, and our EMT's who see some of the most disturbing and shocking things imaginable when they roll up to a 10-car pile-up. So many people brave people on this planet who don't do it for the glory, fame or money ... they do it because it's who they are. Respect for anyone who puts their physical, emotional and/or mental health on the line every day for the rest of us.
More movies used to simply be about "being human" in a universal sense until every other movie became ideologically possessed, for lack of a better word, at the expense of compelling character and story..
I like that the story is timeless. One person paying off a lifetime debt to another. I could set this to any point in human history and it would work. Shameful how we treated these guys who were on the front lines with our troops after they risked everything to keep our men safe. Respect from Canada to Ritchie and his team for telling this story. I think this is a good film to show how much interpreters have done for us in Iraq and Afghanistan. Even if it's a sensational story, they put their lives on the line for us. Their family life even. People need to understand that these interpreters deserve to be saved. It's a shame that few know the true stories this film is based on and how we eventually abandoned and withheld help from those who helped us. Seems pretty good. Authenticity is key in movies like this. New clothes and gear are a real giveaway in many movies. The way a soldier walks around carrying kit is another. It's not easy and fluid to move with weight. Looking forward to seeing this movie. And it's great to see Anthony Star of TV's The Boys and Banshee on the big screen. This guy needs more recognition. Jake Gyllenhaal as the Sergeant John Kinley, member of... _Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC)??????_ A TACP is a Tactical Air Control Party. It is comprised of a JTAC (Joint Terminal Air Controller) and a ROMAD (essentially a JTAC in training, though the reality is ROMADs are frequently seasoned operators in their own right, having completed lengthy and arduous blocks of training and lacking only the final JTAC certification). JTACs direct the action of combat aircraft operating in CAS (Close Air Support) and other offensive operations, calling in airstrikes and gun runs like an FO or an ANGLICO Marine calls in artillery or naval gunfire. The NATO is Forward Air Controller. A typical TACP (JTAC or ROMAD or both) might be on an infantry patrol one day to coordinate immediate CAS and attached to an ODA the next day for the same reason. United States Air Force Tactical Air Control Party, commonly abbreviated TACP, is an individual or team of US AFSPECWAR (Air Force Special Warfare) Airmen with AFSC 1Z3X1, who are aligned with conventional, Special Operation Forces, and Tier 1 combat maneuver units. They direct lethal and nonlethal joint firepower anywhere, anytime the battle calls for it. They are also the primary Air Force advisors to U.S. Army, joint, multinational and special operations ground force commanders for the integration of air, space and cyber power. The JTAC motto is *ADVISE, ASSIST, CONTROL.*
well not really when all movie floops at box office except the superhero movies and only 3 4 other movies that aint superhero movies make money rest just floops badly not matter how good they where. so it isnt on the superhero movie its on the audince
so glad that from the boys antony start has gotten more roles. Ever since he was on banshee as lucas hood, he's been one of my top three favorite actors. Can't wait to see how he does in this.
Same honestly. Antony starr is easily in my top 5 favorite actors of all time. His range of emotion is amazing never seen another actor be able to express that big of a range.
Guy Ritchie's storytelling and direction, Jake Gyllenhaal's obviously great acting and Dar Salim, superb visuals and an emotional soundtrack - this is gonna be Oscar worthy. Gives me a lot of the vibes of emotional pain of Jarhead - albeit in a different manner. Jake Gyllenhaal is definitely one of my favorite actors and possibly Dar Salim (he looks cool in the trailer). Definitely a must watch film.
So glad Dar Salim is getting a strong supporting role. He's a fantastic actor. I didn't know he grew up in Denmark until I watched him on a Danish TV series Warrior.
As a long time army interpreter myself currently in Iraq. I appreciate how this movie shows the importance of interpreters in US missions throughout the world! it's about time..
Some have mentioned this doesn't look "Guy Ritchie"... but take a closer look... it's def Guy Ritchie's intensity, deep interconnectedness of characters/events and as always, gut-wrenchingly great film. I do love everything he does. I expect this to be no exception 🤩. Enjoy!
Where did he go with this one. This was Jake Gyllenhaal the whole trailer 😐. Except with words coming out of his mouth. The interpreter looked like the better actor in this.
As an interpreter myself, I’m looking forward to that movie… we have endured so much to move the United States. Lost friends dislocated from family trapped in wars that we don’t belong to, we are only trying to do the right thing by saving the good guys and send them back home to their families. In the meantime, we lost our times, and our families. Am I proud of it? Absolutely would I do that again with a heartbeat… after 242 combat missions for six years I think I did my time and many others are trapped in a rock in Afghanistan, because the SIV visa program got canceled, I wish I could see my brothers and sisters back here so they can enjoy your freedom ❤
Dar Salim has grown a lot in the last few years, I´m glad he is now appearing in foreign films. And in such good company :) Just a little proud to be Danish today
Glad to see Anthony Starr getting more Roles. He is the Best Actor on “TV” right now playing Homelander and Guy Ritchie stopping outside the Gangsta Drama again could be interesting
Guy Ritchie is a wonderful filmmaker and storyteller! I'm beyond stoked to see this cast, including Jake - omg, what a collab, in this incredible world of cinema!
Hopefully this movie makes it clear how when the Biden administration pulled out of Afghanistan without warning, we left thousands of our allies to get slaughtered. The level of betrayal is beyond scope & evil.
Guy Ritchie, the director of The Gentleman and Wrath of Man with Jake Gyllenhaal from Prisoners, Source Code, Nightcrawler, Ambulance and more. And now with the two combined we got The Covenant. Can't wait to see this
You named his recent movies. Guy Rit js known for two smoking barrels and the list CONTUNES with snatch. He's from the UK. Hoolgan style of movies. Solder of funtune was his newest..he needs to go back to the old style.
This is freaking deep, that hits so hard.. When you know that Guilt in you, There Is No Choice !! Cant wait to watch Ritchie + Gyllenhaal + War = Awesomeness Pro Plus
@@tatumergo3931 True, but he has done so many diverse roles over the years, it's hard to pigeonhole him. I'm watching a movie called life (scifi horror) right now and he is awesome so far.
@@tatumergo3931 Understood 😁✌️. No, I wasn't implying anything. I totally get what you are saying. But I think he does a lot of research for his roles from what I've heard and obviously a fantastic job of it. That's for sure
Guy Ritchie is my fav director because of inserting so many many characters in his flicks and all having relevance. I have seen all his movies and my fav were revolver, rock and rolls & the man from uncle
Well.... His gangster movies, "Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels", "Snatch", "Rock'nRolla" and "The Gentlemen" are great. "Revolver" is pretty good too. His other movies.... not so much. The "Sherlock Holmes" movies are decent. Many mediocre, and a few stinkers, "Swept Away" is the worst.
We didn’t see the whole movie. Many trailers give away the entire story, but this wasn’t that one. If so, please tell me how it ends & what happens to the interpreter & his family?
Now this movie looks really interesting. I think I’m going to give it a shot when it comes out. We must try and respect the interpreters who helped us with great risk to themselves during the mission.
My dad was a interpreter in desert storm he told me some scary stories but if it wasn’t for him making that sacrifice I would have never been in America my entire life. Cause he served they let him come to america
Helped you hand a country over to the Taliban. Congratulations, job well done and those Yankee boys didn't die meaningless deaths for bullshit fed to them from politicians. How those translators doing these days ? We abandoned them to die.
So if you are a US citizen or a citizen of a country that went into Iraq or Afghanistan, check your congressman/woman's stance on getting more Afghani and Iraqi staff out of the country, write them to increase support and quotas etc.
Never forget all the brothers and sisters who came to America's aid in those wars, were left behind when we were done with them, and then killed for aiding us. RIP.
@Mr. Hoot the same out like Vietnam 🇻🇳 and the soldiers don't give the orders to pull out. If you had the courage to serve in combat, you would understand. Your comment makes it very clear about you, and hopefully, you will find happiness in life.
To me it's an unforgivable crime that our government abandoned our friends & allies and their families that believed in us to be tortured by the Taliban animals. My only hope is that they get to die & stop suffering. May Biden & his minions that did this suffer in Hell, like the innocent people they did this to.
@@AbelSFR happy we left but marines paid the price. we should have left over night while everyone was sleeping. then on top of that, we left our equipment there so now these mf have our shit!
When I was in jail I met Mustafa Alajar. He was an interpreter as well for the army in Iraq. He survived an IED after being told to go get beer for the soldiers. Even though they knew they weren’t suppose to leave the base at night. He didn’t know. God bless you brother for being a humble servant and for your example. He never complained
I have a bad feeling Gyllenhaal finds the interpreter and his family, but they come into a terrible, inescapable situation where the interpreter sacrifices himself and gives his life so his family and Jake can escape. And I'm not at all prepared for how emotional that's going to be 🥺
looks good and fresh concept but also sad at the same time since there are hundreds of ANA that fought teeth to teeth with the tali only to ended up abandoned.
