@Universal Kombat They can go off with just a tap of the palm actually. It's just that dangerous to load 6 bullets in a 6 shooter. Some would half spin the cylinder and rest the hammer in-between the bullets to avoid a accidental discharge, there are also holsters that provide a thin strap leather that would be placed where the hammer usually rest.

Very intersting way for a safety use of a Frontier,, I own one, 45 LC caliber, and got used to do this way at the shooting range. Still alive and no hurt !

Wish the Peacemakers and other revolvers of the time that used self containing cartilages had a safety similar to the older cap and ball style revolvers, where you can rest the hammer in between the chambers in a groove like with the 1858 New Army Remington, that used a cut out in between the nipples to rest the hammer. The colts used a pin on the cylinder with a cut out in the hammer, however the pin could break, and it wasn't the best method compared to the Remington models. But I do understand due to the cartilage size and such that it would require a bigger cylinder to make enough room for it.

I’ve got a ruger .357 magnum used for speed shooting. My grandpa got it because a guy shot his leg cause the hair trigger was bumped by his finger too early. He gave the gun away and stopped speed shooting. Very cool gun and extremely light trigger.

Load one skip one, load four, hammer all the way back and lowered onto the empty chamber. Easy. Must do this with unconverted "old style" Ruger single actions too. Have been doing it for many, many moons..

Pharmdkeith I carry a 45 Colt single action revolver for self defense sometimes. Sometimes a 1911 .45 ACP, sometimes a .357 Magnum revolver. Depends on my mood. I can operate them all well on the move against multiple threats just fine. I always carry plenty of spare Ammo too.

The newer Uberti cattleman 2 has a retractable firing pin on the hammer so you can safely load six. Hammer now has only three positions instead of four.

The new Pietta's have a new style transfer bar system in which the exposed firing pin is actually engaged by a safety bar..So it looks original but is free floating until the trigger is pulled and held..

This is true for old school fixed pin firearm replicas. However modern revolvers have a transfer bar so the hammer can only contact the firing pin if the trigger is pulled. Thus they are safe to load the full 6.

One thing I find kinda funny is how these old loading gate revolvers would be well suited to shooting modern rimless ammo for autoloaders such as 9mm and .45 ACP. Since there Gun ejects cartridges through the rod as opposed to an ejector normally found on break action or swinging cylinder revolvers, no protruding rim is not a problem. And it would probably be a good idea to sell as well, since 9mm Luger is likely the cheapest centerfire cartridge in the USA.

Wow! I did not imagine the pin to be that sensitive! When I was little my uncle always loaded 5 into his revolver when we would go to the range. Crazy to see what could happen if you're not too careful.

I've been practicing with a Denix replica. It's not the same as the real thing but I think it helps me get a feel for what I can expect from a real firearm. Maybe someday I'll own a really one, I just need more practice
