Over the last 2 decades, the Arizona Coyotes have often been regarded as one of the worst teams in the NHL, but given that the team has been haemorrhaging money since their relocation in 1996, their desire to keep costs as low as possible is pretty understandable given the circumstances.
In an attempt to ensure that they reach the salary floor, there have been several instances where the Coyotes have acquired the contracts of aging players who are either on the long-term injured reserve list with little chance of ever playing in the NHL again, or players who have left the league for good before their deal was over. And who are some of the players they have acquired through this method? Watch to find out!
So in today's video, join me as we explore the Arizona Coyotes Cap Dump Club

I always thought the "trading contracts" line in the NHL was a funny loophole to get around the salary cap. This was a fun video to watch!

A lot of these were insurance covered as well. So Arizona wouldn't even have to pay the guys.
@purewrestlingfansite
@purewrestlingfansite 2 года назад
Part of these LTIR contracts is issuance recovery. If the contract qualifies for the insurance the Coyotes get the cap hit and then recover part of the contract costs via insurance recovery. So in essence the Coyotes don’t pay the majority off the contract
@gocanuckgus

If the team put the effort they put on lowering costs into actually building a team, man that Coyotes team would be scary. It's a slap in the face of their fans, like they're not even trying to contend

I don't understand why there is a "salary floor". That doesn't make sense. What if you buy a struggling franchise (like Coyotes) and want to reevaluate the team and get a fresh start. But now you have to get your roster to the minimum salary level and by doing that prolong the process of rebuilding.

I'd love to have a beer with Pronger. He's obviously very intelligent yet he's a cruel bully at the same time...Whyyyyy? Is what I'd ask. How did he become that player and reconcile both sides of himself?
@ianschroth6575
@ianschroth6575 2 года назад
Yeah, I would like to talk a few hockey players about how they can flip that switch. Pronger definitely had an old school hockey mentality. He was a great player, team player, fiercely protective of teammates, but mean and tough and dirty and a bully. I watch interviews with him now and he's unapologetic for the way he played or things he did to win, but he's thoughtful at times and no dummy. He'd be fun to have a beer and talk to about his career. Stu Grimson has a couple good interviews about it. He's a big Christian and he reconciled his fighting and dirty stuff he did to protect his teammates as being a good shepherd to his flock or something like that.

You'll need new ownership. I know I'm a Panthers fan. The 90s Panthers was Wayne Huizenga very rich, then it was like many, many years of poor to mediocrity under an 'ownership" group that was literally used car dealership owners and my friend's wife actually worked for an "owner" it was like a small 11 person business office. We now have "very rich" billionaire owners again, Vincent Viola and Douglas Cifu. They STILL had to go threw a full multi year rebuild etc.

So, assuming that Datysuk gets into the HoF (I would have to say it's far more likely than not) there will be as many HoFers on the Cap Dump club as the Coyotes have had actually lace up for the team. And even that list includes Brett Hull, who took the ice for a grand total of 5 games with the franchise.

Although there is enough evidence that Phoenix (and the valley ) is a viable market, this review lends weight to how many sports teams run their organizations in order to squeeze out a profit. Although it is an organizations right to do so, this review also indirectly points out the business model is all at the expense of the tax payers that subsidized a teams stadium and surrounding real estate deals. Its a shame that the nhl hasn’t found consistently sincere ownerships that realize the customer comes first. It’s inexcusable for how long the yotes have been allowed to exploit the fans from a repeatably enjoyable experience. Although smart from a accounting perspective, its odd(to me) that the NHL would allow the repeated “loophole” to continue. Closing the loophole one could argue, would force teams to push for more payroll that has a direct impact on the ice (and for the fan experience). Lastly this review also indirectly brings to light why(or why not) the NHLPA hasn’t been vocal of the yotes contractual endeavors. Maybe they are “in” on it too? 🙄😉🤔🙃✌🏻

*Imo, Arizona isn't as bad as everyone leads on. Poor management, definitely clouds the view, mixed with continued bad contract acquiring. If Arizona spent more efforts on waiver targeting, acquiring mid-bottom 6 radar guys on other teams who may be available, and doing more research to acquire guys like Nick Ritchie, who need to go somewhere with no immediate expectations, to get a complete fresh start. The Yotes definitely need to get back on the ball, in regards to acquiring youth/prospects, and most notably...2 Consistently competing Goalies. DucksFan, who thinks the Yotes, could be in the playoffs, in the next 3-5 years.*
