Fun story: I had a computer class for 3 of my 4 years in high school. I graduated in 2000. Sometimes around my senior year I noticed my teacher had a drawing of an old woman on his wall with some letters under it. My teacher would never talk about it, but he said a friend of his drew it for him. It wasn't until I saw Emperor's New Groove that I racognized the letters under the old woman YZMA. My computer teacher had a Disney animator as a childhood friend. I had an original drawing of Yzma on my class room wall for years without knowing it.

I saw New Groove in the theater. My gf and I loved it so much we went directly across the street to the mall, into the Disney Store, and asked them what merchandise they had. They only had the soundtrack. Not a single plush llama in the whole store. That's when we knew that Disney had no faith in this one whatsoever. I'm glad word of mouth and home video kept it alive.

If/when this movie gets the dreaded live-action remake treatment (God forbid), there are exactly two ways it could even be remotely justifiable. Either it keeps the style of the original by mercilessly mocking the nature of Disney’s live-action remakes as a whole, or it deliberately pulls a bait-and-switch on the audience by actually being its original Kingdom of the Sun form. Though, in all likelihood, we’ll just get Kronk pulling the right lever - and that’s terrible

I can't imagine anyone but the original actors lending their voices to these characters. RIP Eartha Kitt, and the other leads are all way too old to reprise their roles. At least David Spade would be able to do voice work for most of it as a CGI llama. But I don't think that would be any better than the mess that was the "Live Action" Lion King.

I saw it on opening day without the intention of doing so until I was just looking for something to do and went to the theater to see what was playing. I was going through a bit of a rut at the time, so I figured a Disney movie might cheer me up. I had such a great time watching this. It was just what I needed. The Emperor's New Groove was so far ahead of its time. I remember a friends girlfriend renting this movie and our whole group watching it while day drinking in their college apartment. I couldn't believe it was a Disney cartoon. It was a blast. Casting was (cue movie's most popular meme) chef's kiss. Goodman and Spade are an amazing duo playing off of each other. Warburton steals any scene as Kronk, yet Kitt as Yzma is an iconic villain. Pacha's family scenes are touching and hilarious. They break the fourth wall. It's self aware. It broke the mold of Disney's previous animated features. And was influential on future animated features.

This is my all time favourite film from Disney Animation. It's funny, it's heartfelt, it's funny, it's got characters you instantly love and care about, it's funny, the [mostly orchestral and instrumental] music is spectacular and "My Funny Friend and Me" is one of the best tie-in songs ever written for a movie capturing the concepts beautifully, it's funny, Kuzco actually spoke to me as a depressed teen who was his own worst enemy struggling to reach out but couldn't due to his flaws, IT'S SUPER-ULTRA-HYPER-TURBO FUNNY... Basically, it's Disney Animation Studios at their best, and it's a must for anyone looking into their catalogue, those sick of their current output of generic schlock, those looking for something different, and those who just want to LAUGH. Classic.

This is what happens when you let the creators have FUN. Not every movie needs to be oscar bait, Disney had been trying so hard to replicate Beauty and the Beast, wanting animated epics. Some of the best Disney movies have been the ones where they did not expect the movie to succeed.

I didn’t see “The Emperor’s Groove” when it came out, but one day, while channel flipping, I randomly came across an episode of the “The Emperor’s New School” on The Disney Channel, started watching it regularly and found it delightful. Eartha Kitt was hilarious! It seemed like she was having the time of her life behind that microphone. Sadly, her death ended the series. And it was at that point, I watched the original film as well as the Kronk spin-off movie and enjoyed all of them. “The Emperor’s New Groove” may not have blown up the box office like, say, “The Lion King,” but evidently Disney felt it was successful enough to spawn a small, but enjoyable, franchise.

It's just the best movie ever. I literally wore out my first dvd copy of it in 2010, and naturally had to buy it again when it came out on blue ray 😎. I'm pretty sure the kind of humor they created in this film is one of the grandfathers of today's meme culture.

One of my all time favorite Disney movies. My mom bought me the soundtrack, and we listened to it quite a bit. Izma has a song from the original version that Eartha Kitt absolutely nails.

This is one of the best animated movies ever made. Everyone i knew at the time loved this movie, i never realized it didn't do well. There was even a show for it but i don't really recall seeing a bunch of toys or other branded merchandise, maybe that was the clue that it didn't perform as expected? 😄👍

This is one of my favorite Disney movies, the comedy made the film more marketable to an older crowd. El Dorado was another movie with comedy geared toward an older crowd which I also enjoyed.

One of my favorite Disney films as a teen. Hit at the right time for myself and others in my friend group. The humor made it stand out compared to the rest of the Disney movies, the story was heartfelt but not overly so, and it had Eartha Kit! The show was fantastic as well and worked well on the Disney Saturday morning block of cartoons

This was and is legitimately my favorite Disney film. No campy musical numbers padding out the runtime, no teenage girls whining about being all grown up and in love at first sight, just straight up laughs from start to finish. And it never gets old.

Sure, maybe fewer songs than typical for a Disney movie, but I dunno how you hire Tom Jones without the intent of SPECIFICALLY making campy musical numbers…

I absolutely LOVE this movie ! Can't remember where I first seen it either (gimme me a break, I'm 60) but if I ever need a real good laugh out loud movie. I pop the DVD in and have a blast. The part in the jungle where Kuzco and Pancha have all the misfortunes to when they go over the waterfalls to climbing back up the mountain is hilarious. Eartha Kitt should won a award of some kind for her role of Ezma. Pull the Lever ! Wrong Leverrrrrrrrrrr !! Kronk and the two guys on his shoulders and being able to talk to the squirrels and making tasty ensemble of food at that diner. So many other great parts. I even liked Kronks new groove too.

I saw Emperor's New Groove in theaters and I think it's also the last big production thing I had seen David Spade in. I love his comedy, and I was thrilled to see him as the lead role. He absolutely KILLED IT, too! I don't watch the movie itself very often, but if it's on somewhere I won't say no :3

This movie was very groovy. But one thing that proves it really was fictitious, was Theme Song Guy’s microphone. This movie was somewhere in the 15th or 16th century. Microphones weren’t invented until the 19th century.

I'd heard this film had gone through some changes before release but didn't realise how different the original pitch was or how far into production it had gotten before being scrapped and redone. Regards The Emperor's New Groove is one of my favourite Disney films. I love how unconventional it is when compared to this that proceeded it, it's funny and heartfelt, the characters are layered and memorable, the voice cast is awesome and the opening song from Tom Jones is one of the best things ever.
