It depends on the location, some antique stores I go to want to get rid of them and mark everything as cheap while others must really like those goodwill records they're trying to flip. Now a real record store, yeah might be more reasonable depending on what names you're looking for.
Yep, prices on this pick were mostly too high for my liking, fortunately there are other sources out there to find the good deals on vinyl. More coming soon.
Seems like it right? If the owner of the booth was there, I would have offered him $20 for each of those Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, etc.. in bulk…might try that route when I go back. Thanks for watching!
I just picked up both the Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd “The Wall” albums this week at a garage sale this week for $1 each, both in great shape. The deals are out there, but one has to look much harder than in the past.
So yes i have noticed prices in some places have gone up, but I have managed to find some places where things are priced to sell, not sit in a bin for 5 years.
Awesome comment and appreciate the feedback. I try to price mine so they don't sit in a U-Haul box for months - years... I use Discogs primarily to price my LPs fair, based on the condition. Thanks!
Wow!! Thanks for that info 👍🏼 There’s been several times that I overpaid, underpaid, or passed on Pink Floyd LPs… it’s often a tough call to make but glad I have most of their catalogue in my music shelf. Thanks! 🎸🎸🎸
Yes, i remember a church charity store in NM in the late 90's, 3 records for a $1. Really great and rare stuff that i sold a week later at the Austin TX record convention for good money , unthinkable now.
Short answer to your question is YES. Why? Because everybody wants them.. Fortunately I am a collector of classical records, and they don’t seem to go up in price 😎
Very true... everyone wants them! Classical records have not been increasing much in price, compared to the Classic Rock and Jazz records out there in the wild, so it's a good thing you are a classical collector. Thanks for the feedback.
Prices have gone up at many of our local flea markets but I have found a few reliable antique shops in my area that have good prices and quality vinyl.
As a fairly new picker, sadly, the prices are getting bad. I'm not sure why records cost so much now, sure, high demand, but the prices they're asking for more times than not is crazy. Old records are better, higher quality. More bonus content. New records fresh off the press are cheap, minimum effort and cost more. It is pretty unlogical.
Thanks for your input 👍🏼 I agree that the prices are getting higher, it’s hard to find good places to hunt in the wild, but I’m going to keep hunting for the vintage gems. Appreciate your comments!
That's not quite the case. There are plenty of examples out there of reissues being superior than the original release. Also, there are boutique labels that consistently release reissues in extremely high quality such as the Ultra Disc One Steps by Mobile Fidelity or UHQRs by Analogue Productions. Other labels such as Vinyl Me Please or Music On Vinyl also offer very competitive releases. often with great artwork or extra features, depending on the release. It is true that some reissues are crap, and for that you can go to Discogs on the specific release page to read the comments and reviews of people who have purchased and listened to those albums. Hope this helps
I have to grin, seeing several albums I've sold or have available for sale. It seems prices are all over the place, especially for issues that are "cult albums" for one reason or another. We don't have a lot of thrift outlets in my area, and I've heard that Goodwill puts the best stuff on their auction site. So my optimal chances for the good pieces are garage/yard/estate sales. I'd recommend that Basia album; she's Polish, and it may be her only U.S. release. It was 1990s as I recall.
Thanks for the tip on the Basia album, I did not know about that one and will check it into it. Appreciate the comments, I've had some people in the vinyl community tell me that prices are going up everywhere so wanted to throw the question out there. Have not tried Goodwill auction site yet, great idea. I get my best priced... VG+ .... Rock LPs from a local antique booth, record store, and sometimes $1 each at yard sales - estate sales. Also recently grabbed some good ones on Discogs at a very fair price. Thanks!
Did you tell them to please not put tape on the jackets? 😁 thanks a lot for flipping through those! Edit: i still think Crystal Gayle's one of the prettiest women ever..
Beat-up copies of Reissues of Dollar-Bin-Records for 10$++? I can't believe what I just saw! - Does putting the sticker directly to the jacket make them worth that much? - Must be.
Believe it... and, I hear you...I had a fun time flipping through the LPs but no go on the high priced purchases... however, I do think it's good to show this so that vinyl collectors and resellers like us can get an idea of what is happening out there. Fortunately, there are still great deals to be found. Thanks for the comments!
A little high on prices compared to my record store did c one I would have gotten April wine nature of the beast awesome album hope u got a couple of bargains thanks mount in man
I went to an antique mall here in Texas last week and I was searching for some country records. Most were ~$5 which many to me were a deal. But when I looked through the rock/classic rock, they had torn up Zeppelin in really bad condition, asking $40. Some people just don't have a clue about price and condition. Many of the prices you showed in the video, with the condition of the record were way high. But bottom line...in most record stores I was paying ~$8 for a 60s psych record 10 years ago, and now they're going for $25+
Thanks for your feedback! I agree with you about the Zeppelin albums, especially. I used to have a thrift store spot in Texas where I picked up LPs for 50 cents a pop and it didn't matter what they were, good, bad, VG+ or torn up, etc.. Glad I bought hundreds back then because they increased to $5 each very quickly. I'm sure they are much more now. Appreciate your comments!
Hello, thanks for the great question. In this video I am using my iPhone 14. Sometimes I use my GoPro. I will start putting links to my equipment in the description, thanks for watching!
Thanks for the feedback, I guess vinyl fever has hit Canada too. Good for us as resellers, tough for us as buyers and collectors, but everything has gone up here .. inflation.
Unfortunately here in Canada ,even the old wear vintage Records are getting 15$ CAD more expensive Without mention the New Releases. On my opinion they already started killing the Record Experience. You can hear Young people Talking about the prices. They don’t care that much, they Prefer Spotify.
Thanks for the knowledge and feedback on Canada prices. I hope to get up there someday. I'm beginning to think this is just a reflection of EVERYTHING in our world going up in price. Gotta keep hunting.
Thanks for the view, I agree the prices are too high on these LPs, more like $5 LPs with some good classic rock albums that I would have paid $10 each for, but not $40.
The short answer is "Only Because" there are a lot of over optimistic folks trying to supplement disability and retirement income. E-bay has suddenly made everyone an armchair expert...wish I could get 25 bucks for my valuable Juice Newton record...We are becoming a victim of Record Late Stage Capitalism...... 8 bucks for a Babs record..please..
Thanks for the great comments and feedback to the question, "Are vinyl prices going up?". Appreciate the support and for watching this video, more coming soon!
Hello Sweden, thanks for watching 👍🏼 the background music is necessary to avoid a copyright claim, since many stores play loud music from CDs or radio. Appreciate your support!
