When I published my memoir, I had no idea that educators would find their students reading it (even when they weren't supposed to be reading), or that they would see so many powerful lessons and would ask me to create a curriculum. The curriculum turned into powerful workbooks in versions for 5th grade, middle school, high school, young parents and first-gen college students that have been used all over the country. I am grateful for the 5th grade professional school counselor featured in this video, Shelia Chatman, who helped to see just how powerful the curriculum was and could be.
Developed with the goal of nurturing well-rounded individuals, this curriculum uses my story of overcoming trauma and addresses the crucial areas of personal growth, academic success, and social responsibility.
