This is a dramatic reading of a passage in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, a favourite novel of mine. In my view, The Creature is one of the most layered and well-rendered characters in fiction. Frankly, I abhor how he's portrayed in the classic Gothic films and in popular art. These lazy representations do nothing but perpetuate the very same views that The Creature's antagonists hold in the novel. The best and most faithful depiction that I've seen stands in the form of Caliban/John Clare (Rory Kinnear) in Penny Dreadful.
