Interesting to see your perspectives and hear your thoughts Dickie. The Army use Imber for FIBUA training (Fighting In Built Up Areas) I believe thats what they call it. Shame the village has all but gone, it was once a really lovely place which now takes a lot of imagination to picture just how it used to be. The Army started training in the area during the late Victorian times but expanded their operations as time went by. They (Army) purchased up the village in full knowledge of what was going to happen. Imber had long been earmarked for training purposes. At first there was an exclusion zone around the village but some errant shells did land close by so it was decided the Army could no longer guarantee the safety of the villagers and gave them the marching orders, they had but a few short weeks to leave. It was heart breaking for most of them and one in particular Albert Nash the village Blacksmith. He was devastated and was found sobbing sat on his anvil in the village Smithy, a place he had worked for many years and no doubt many before his. There has been a settlement at Imber since before the time of the Romans. Albert the Black smith died shortly after leaving Imber and on his death certificate is noted the he died from a broken heart. The only things that have soul value thats left in Imber are the deceased that now lie at peace in the sacred turf of Imber. Imber is dead, Long live the memory of Imber...Ultimately the loss of Imber is down to politics and despotic world leaders. We need the Army. We need Imber still !

It's a pity about Imber village being taken over by the Army, but if we turn the clock back to 1943, Great Britain was fighting for it's very existence. Our food was rationed because of shortages and while it's a shame Mr Nash the Blacksmith may have died of a broken heart, thousands of British and Commonwealth troops were dying in the battles in North Africa, the Atlantic convoys and in captivity in South East Asia. On the bright side, at least Mr Nash is buried in his home ground, in England, others sleep under a different sky.

Hi John.. Very true words indeed....People don’t seem to learn the tragic lessons of previous conflicts that have laid so many brave and innocent soles to rest.. My lovely old mum who is 92 today can recall the hardships and heartache of living in a country that for a while stood alone … Take care John👍

It's such a shame, for needless conflict, involvement in wars and todays World safety, a community as Imber then suffered the loss to keep this Green an pleasant Land from Jackboots.. an yet we're heading for a supposing WWIII. As Sandy commented, the Blacksmith lost not only his livelihood.. but life itself.. and of all the other Villagers the wrench, were they relocated as still a community or the 4 winds..! Those whom made the plans and cleared the Villagers.. dose one think they couldn't slept nights over their action.. not one had concern, like today given those that enter this Land we call England by not the normal cannels, are given the best and then claim the need to have their own rights, etc, etc...! Not my GOV.. I'll stop now, blood boils..

Strange times my friend.. The world is fuelled by greed ..Always has been…Always a way to make money out of people’s misery.. From narcotic dealers right up to main government..Often wonder how it all started long long ago… ‘Right I’m in charge and you will call me king! If you don’t I’ll kick the bahoolies out of you 😄.. Take care bud 👍

@@DickieMintCycles You've summed it up.. all stems down from the Top, wanting to be on top an so Called Titled.. Entitled and Unelected as most 3 Letter word groups are in Europe robbing Us. Power/Control goes to the head, as with Rule.. end is they're only just another Human Being like everyone else. I'll be servient an go work now for my Tax. Cheers Bro
