Wow, that last bit added about the RP Diet App looks amazing. Super excited about this new edition that's going to be added. Looks super simple to adjust macros when needed. Thanks RP
I would have enjoyed a tour of the gym that time forget. Put a big ol' multi station Universal thing in the middle of it, looks a little like the gym at Ft. Hood back in '86.
Great video ! I am actually once a week training at multisport in de city of arnhem, Netherlands where they have the full stack of the technogym Isotonic Line from 1984 .... That chest press machine is awesome with a neutral grip and moving inwards while you press...
I was 14 in Sept 1981 when i entered High School , i was 6-1 157 lbs. NO WAIST , stringbean arms 38 chest. and LEGS . i was squatting 135 and i was happy, Started reading Muscle & Fitness and my world changed, i was squatting 405 lb by graduation at 178 lbs and FINALLY my back and chest were growing 45 inch chest . THOSE WERE AWESOME TIMES
Some of that vintage nautilus equipment in the background would be priceless $$$ just that pullover could go for $5-10k if it’s in good condition - should of trained upper body bois 🤣
That rom on the leg Press is insane. Wish I could go that low on the leg Press. When I do, I get this really painful burning sensation around my right hip.
Videotape yourself from a side, when you are going to deep your pelvis tilts forward. So go as low as you can without pelvis tilting. I suspect your ROM will improve over time if you work to your current maximal ROM
Had same problem... funny enough when i figured out my foot positioning it stopped! i needed to put it quite lower with a neutral stance! maybe you dont need this exactly setup but figue your one out! have a good day
Try going wider with your toes and knees and work on your inner thigh mobilty (light frog stretch for a longer period does the trick for me). I had similar issue, as my hips sockets are deep, so i'm not anatomically able to go as low as some with legs forward.
RP Videos are great because Dr. Mike's is always working on material (I think he is legit a standup inside a BB body), information and tips are useful and well thought, but man does the video crew always come through. 80s graphics were quite the touch.
The way Charlie came off that first leg press is how I get out of bed the morning after Leg day and pretty much any time I get up period the day after. 😂😅 Usually lasts 2 full intense days though
Love the banter guys. You need to come visit the HQ now for a futuristic experience ! Vertical leg presses are the worst most moronic leg presses but you have some people claiming vertical leg presses are somehow good or better lol. This leg press was at least "workable" , should have been usable sissy style. In order for the hip extension in the leg extension to lengthen the quads more, you have to keep the knee aligned with the pivot point so you are still getting equal knee flexion in a more hip extended position. (so lifting up the butt, can actually decrease the stretch) *Point Jared :) in this case.
Pretty sure dr mike is correct about the torso angles backwards = more quad stretch thing. It’s kinda literally part of the standing quad stretch (from when your coach would make everybody static stretch before practice/games as a kid cuz Random Dad A didn’t know any better). I noticed Jared does his laying ham curls like his bicep curls with a little hinge action that’s clearly purposeful (not being sarcastic) Gonna have to give that a go next meso
I have a first gen chain and cam driven nautilus pullover, but it's the women's model, so any average dude can full stack the thing for 30. I'm working with a talented welder to cut the frame, add inserts to make it about 4 inches wider, weld it back up in my gym since I need to cut it to fit it thru my door anyway, and then replace the weight stack with heavier weights and get a motorcycle shop or something to get a stronger chain added. Worth it to me for this machine in particular and it's turning into a fun project
I do believe it was the one and only QuadFather Tom Platz who came up with leaning back during quad extensions. That spycho would lie on his back and do quad extensions. So for that reason alone I can respect Mike for his form on that exercise LOL.
Indeed it would be, but unfortunately we have vastly different goals, so the same workout would have to be very not-ideal for at least one of us! - Dr. Mike
I don’t understand why, but I love taking a hack squat to failure and get a ton of leg stress with virtually no low back fatigue. I don’t understand from a mechanical perspective why I get so much low back fatigue from a leg press, even with the seat back and weightlifting shoes.
It would be kind of fun to start an antique gym with some friends just for the heck of it, like in the woods or someplace cheap... I wonder if you sought out old equipment, how old of an antique gym could you replicate?
Started weight training in the 90's The gym had equipment from around the 80's Leg curl with the old flat bench with just a little curve, a great tension at the bottom and at the top The leg press what you used, it was similar to what I used, but a bit more incline and the plate was much bigger and heavier I preferred that old style leg press, as you had far more range of movement compared to modern day leg presses
