For millennia, humans have been harnessing #microbes to produce everything from breads, to cheeses, to alcohol. Now these tiny organisms have produced another powerful revolution - the gene editing tool CRISPR. Rodolphe Barrangou, Ph.D., was working at the food company Danisco, where he was trying to produce yogurt lines resistant to contamination. In a series of groundbreaking experiments, he helped uncover what CRISPR was, how it worked, and why it could be so transformative.
Speaker Biography:
Rodolphe Barrangou, Ph.D., studies beneficial microbes, focusing on the occurrence and diversity of lactic acid bacteria in fermented foods and as probiotics. Using functional genomics, he has focused on uncovering the genetic basis for health-promoting traits, including the ability to uptake and catabolize non-digestible carbohydrates. He spent 9 years at Danisco-DuPont, characterizing probiotics and starter cultures, and established the functional role of CRISPR-Cas as adaptive immune systems in bacteria. At NC State, he continues to study the molecular basis for their mechanism of action, as well as developing and applying CRISPR-based technologies for genotyping, building immunity and genome editing.

Why can't we add CAS sequences to Corona virus o that it does not infect human?

Viruses keep mutating, better to change human body to react to viruses faster but that difficult due to possible off site changes and regulation

Adding crispr CAS 9 geneediting to rice plants and make them less toxic to heavy metals like lead, cadmium(super phosphate fertilizers), requires biological monitoring for these heavy metals interest in .Metallothionein protein should be able to adopt crispr CAS 9 gene editing in rice plants and more basic studies have to be made in field trial by the Regression analysis, since cadmium and lead accumulate in the bones. teeth and be placentally transferred to the foeataL blood causing diseases like it a i -it a i (0ouch -ouch painful joints) i and often osteomyelitis .The W H O guidelines for Crispr CAS9 short cuts should be non-toxic.

It is like production of antibodies against the human spermatozoa tail antigen and block conception, which is why corona virus is pandermic. There's no point in adding CAS sequence to corona virus, so gay to infect humans.

Well, i disagree The video was perfectly passed and that was absolutely necessary to deliver that sudden stinger at the end. Must be a bit frustrating for the guy to not be recognized for the discovery of the fundamentals of CRISPR Anyways, i often find that is not about the content, exclusively, but also about how your present it. And, in my honest opinion, this video managed to be informative, funny and engaging Well done!

Imagine being so dopamine deprived, terminally online, and braindead that you can't appreciate the backstory that led to someone's incredibly impactful worth. If two minutes disturb you so much I bet you can't even brush your teeth. Gross.
