The Crooks Outline Their Plan

In the second to last episode of the "Adventures of Superman," a gang of men in lead masks attempts to exact revenge on Clark Kent, Perry White, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen. Fortunately, Clark Kent is first on their list, and as they prepare to lower "Mister Nosey Reporter" into the vat of acid, they conveniently outline their entire plan to the one person who can save them all. But just like in the "old time serials" we will need to wait until a later date to see if Superman can rescue them in time.

That's somewhat addressed in the tag to the episode where we see the crooks in jail. #1: There's one thing I don't understand, boss. We saw Kent go into that tub of acid. #2: Shut up you fool. @ECO473
@ECO473 Год назад
@@jimnolt-TAC I understand that. But what was still left open was did they truly realize that Kent WAS Superman? Or was it something else just as unexplainable? @@joebloggs8636 George always played Kent as a guy who could think fast on his feet. So, a good explanation would be that Kent and Superman pre-arranged that Superman would take Kent's place and let himself get kidnapped, with the crooks thinking he's Kent. Then once they spilled the beans about how they were going to do away with Jimmy, Lois, & Perry, Superman would start the race against the clock to save his friends. And that was his plan all along.
@ECO473
@ECO473 Год назад
@@jimnolt-TAC Now that you mention it, there are parts of the conversation that suggest albeit after the fact that Superman was much closer to the situation than the ringleader first realized. First, when he mentions that Superman has no idea of what's going on, Clark answers, "are you sure?" Then when the ringleader mentions that Clark wasn't begging for mercy, Clark's only response was "sorry to disappoint you." Those responses could have only come from the one man who could have snapped off the handcuffs while being under and then pull himself out of the soup. So, when the flunky mentions that "we saw Kent go into that tub of acid, but we didn't..." and the ringleader cuts him off with "shut up you fool...", the realization that either Clark was extremely lucky...or that Clark WAS the Super Dude traumatized the ringleader either way.

Though reported often, Steve, it never happened. Art Weissman made up that story and pulled it out at those times George just didn't want to appear in costume. That said, there are many times when he was OK with it, but it always bothered him when kids asked him to fly, etc. And he was fearful that kids might witness something tragic as he stood by unable to prevent it. Wearing that costume was a big responsibility in those days. One that George Reeves took seriously.
