During a recent visit to Dubrovnik (Croatia), I had noticed a big cross on top of the mountain which took my interest as I had presumed it was something to do with the 1991 Croatian war of independence…. I was wrong!
Dubrovnik is getting to be popular holiday destination amongst tourist and after doing some online research, many had the same mindset as I did. After speaking to some of the locals, they gave me the story behind the Cross on Mount Srd.
The cross on Mount Srd was erected in 1935 as a celebration of 2000 years since the birth of Jesus Christ, it was unfortunately destroyed in the war of independence as was the cable car used to access the site. The cross was then reconstructed after the war had ended and today the location offers spectacular views of Dubrovnik and the old city.
As a lucky bonus, the ‘Bosnian and Herzegovian’ border can also be seen 4km away from the Cross location.
Majority or all of the video was captured using DJI Mavic Air 2 and recorded at 4K. Exceptions would be where the drone cannot be used (ie. Indoor, no fly zones, etc..). Transcript added to the video by myself to share a bit of history for the video its displaying.
