🖤WELCOME back to my channel!🖤 Today I am watching The Crow (1994) because tons of you guys in the community recommended it to me! I've heard nothing but great things about this movie, I know that it's not only based on a comic book but that it stars Brandon Lee, Bruce Lee's son who tragically died during the making of the movie. Other than that I'm not really sure what to expect, so without further ado, grab you chicki nuggies and choccy milk because we're jumping in💦

BRANDON LEE was outstanding! His performance as Eric was *chefs kiss*🤩He played Eric so well, so menacing and also maniacal. Lots of really great shots of him throughout this movie and lots of cool gun fights. I loved getting to see Eric get his vengeance and get reunited with his wife in the end🥰RIP Brandon 🥺Hope you guys enjoy my reaction!

This was Brandon's best. He brought so many dimensions to Eric Draven. The insanity of being brought back from the dead as a kind of Demi-god. The heartbreaking realization that the love of his life is gone. Embracing the rage and the power given to him by the Crow. Understanding that nothing in life is trivial. And feeling the embrace of love one last time. Those we love are always with us, in our hearts and our memories. Thank you Lauren for the magic you always bring and the beauty you create. That's your superpower. Peace and love always. ❤🧡☝️✌️

@David Anderson 100% You can trace how modern music so easily mixes genres and influences (whether in sound or aesthetics) back to things like JN soundtrack. These young kids today grew up with things like Linkin Park being normal, common - they grew up with mashing genres being a very normal thing. Remember how revolutionary that soundtrack was? Sure, we had Walk This Way and Bring The Noise pop up here and there... but this was a full album being used as part of a marketing campaign. And it wasn't all massive mainstream names. Shit was crazy. Still is. Not to mean it in a boomer way, but kids today don't realise how good they have it. In that regard, at least. Not so much for buying a house.
@annjenkins2677
@annjenkins2677 Год назад
Couldn't agree more !! Those two soundtracks imo are the best I've ever heard.
@davidanderson1639
@davidanderson1639 Год назад
@@KyleS3m3noff Absolutely!! Looking back at the list of artists on the JN is like a who’s who of that era; especially for lesser known artists from the hip-hop world. That is what makes it work; the similarities between metal/hardcore/punk scenes Vs the growing hip-hop scene certainly helped it define a genre. I can’t even think of a track off that soundtrack that hasn’t stood the test of time. The kids today wouldn’t have any appreciation for just how groundbreaking it was at the time. Would it have the same impact today? Probably not, but like back then it would most likely develop a cult like following who understands the importance of that soundtrack & the path it laid for others.

Whether consciously or otherwise Heath Ledger's Joker was absolutely inspired by The Crow. The gun fight style was novel to western cinema at the time, copying the Hong Kong films of John Woo... you can draw a direct line from The Crow to The Matrix's gunplay (I believe some of the crew were the same) and from there to every modern action movie, so to say it was influential is an understatement. The soundtrack was one of the best of the 90s too, also hugely influential to show that those sort of alternative artists could be on a movie soundtrack rather than more mainstream music or just a film score, and the tracks by Nine Inch Nails and The Cure are such bangers that you still hear them fairly regularly at alt nights (the drumming on "Burn" is just phenomenally brutally pulse-raising). This, Blade, and Spawn are also the three movies that set the tone for superhero movies for over two decades, previously the only "grim" superhero was the 80s take on Batman, after those movies EVERYTHING was, to the point of cliche, pretty much until Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse.

@@FalloutKlingon I have no doubt that he was traumatised by it, but to say that he spent a good decade not acting is patently false. There's a story from Bill (Brandon's best friend) Allen's book wherein he talks about fate and how he and Massee found themselves as costars on an episode of the TV series, Lazarus Man, from 1996 and how he was shocked at Massee 'inexpertly' twirling a revolver on set.

He had an amazing career ahead of him. He was handsome, great range of acting, he can be dramatic or funny (Showdown in Little Toyko was another of his films with Dolph Lundgren). This movie is amazing in the real life lesson it teaches. Form the mother being the word of god on lips hearts of all children. To the nothing is trivial. (my mom and dad always did little things for each other because at end of day love isn't about money. It is the little things you do for people that matter and stay with you. Ie. my mom always kissed and told my dad she loved him before bed no matter how their day went. Hi Laurenn, when it comes to gothic-related movies, immediately 3 names come to my mind: "Interview with the vampire" (1994), "Dark City" (1998) and this one. Have a look at the other ones if you don't know them already.

The soundtrack is so good, especially The Cure's title. Such a tragic loss. This hits me in the feels every time I see it. Another great classic is Showdown in Little Tokyo, a buddy cop movie with Brandon and Dolph Lundgren against triads, which is fun. Feel so bad for Michael Massee who played Funboy who fired the shot that accidentally killed Lee. Massee has only spoken about this incident on film once, and you can see how torn up he still is today over this accident.

One of my most favorite films ever. The soundtrack (and score both) probably shaped me way more than any other one thing in my youth. This came out i think i was like 13 or so, i was in jr high, and helped at a comic shop, so i knew the movie was coming out beforehand, and all the images I'd seen looked so amazing, and then the soundtrack hit and it made me wanna check out the comic. DO YOURSELF THE FAVOR....find the TPB of this. Shouldn't set you back more than 20ish bucks, and it's a fairly quick read.

I got to see this opening night. It played in one of the theaters in downtown Chicago, and your thought about this story having that goth appeal was evident that night. I think 90% of the audience there were all in their goth best, and it was just a fun showing. I have the blue ray and I hope a proper 4K release comes out, with a much improved audio track, the voices get lost in the music and sound effects.

Ever since having seen The Crow upon its release, it has been one of my most favourite films. Not only because the performances are excellent, but because it’s visually stunning, has possibly one of the best soundtracks; & also because of what Proyas achieved. The Crow was filmed somewhat back to front; with Brandon Lee filming all the scenes of him in make up first. This meant that the scenes of him without the now iconic make up would be some of the last filmed on the production; & sadly the last Lee would’ve ever film. On March 31, 1993, Lee was filming a scene where his character, Eric, is shot after witnessing the beating and rape of his fiancée. Actor Michael Massee's character Funboy fires a .44 Smith & Wesson Model 639 revolver at Lee as he walks into the room. A previous scene using the same gun had called for inert dummy cartridges fitted with bullets, but no powder or primer, to be loaded in the revolver. For close-up scenes that use a revolver, where the bullets are clearly visible from the front, and do not require the gun to actually be fired, dummy cartridges provide a more realistic appearance than blank rounds, which have no bullet. Instead of purchasing commercial dummy cartridges, the film's prop crew, hampered by time constraints, created their own by pulling the bullets from live rounds, dumping the powder charge, then reinserting the bullets. In the fatal scene, which called for the revolver to be actually fired at Lee from a distance of 12-15 feet, the dummy cartridges were exchanged for blank rounds, which feature a live powder charge and primer, but no bullet, thus allowing the gun to be fired without the risk of an actual projectile. As the production company had sent the firearms specialist home early, responsibility for the guns was given to a prop assistant who was unaware of the rule for inspecting all firearms before and after any handling. Therefore, the barrel was not checked for obstructions when the time came to load it with the blank rounds. Since the bullet from the dummy round was already trapped in the barrel, this caused the .44 Magnum bullet to be fired out of the barrel with virtually the same force as if the gun had been loaded with a live round, and it struck Lee in the abdomen, mortally wounding him. O'Barr later remarked that losing Lee was like losing his fiancée all over again, and he regretted ever writing the comic in the first place. In an interview in 2005, 12 years after the incident, Massee revealed that he still had nightmares about it, stating, "I don't think you ever get over something like that”. Massee died on 20th October 2016 & right up until he passes away, had never watched the film. Another cast member impacted by Lee’s death was Rochelle Davis who played Sarah. Davis struggled with mental health & substance abuse in the years following the films release; on top of which she spent a period of time homeless. From following her social media, she’s turned her life around & is now making occasional appearances at various conventions. Also, The Cure, who composed the song ‘Burn’ specifically for the film, up until only a few years back refused to play it out of respect. After a great deal of soul-searching, Proyas and the rest of The Crow's cast and crew arrived at the conclusion that Lee would have insisted that they finish the film. With most of the actor's scenes completed, it was up to special effects house Dream Quest to fill in the blanks, which they accomplished in a number of ways. For the scene in which a newly-returned-from-the-grave Eric returns to his old apartment, for example, unused footage of Lee was used, with the actor's image digitally composited into a shot of the apartment set. For a few other key images, however, the effects technicians turned to techniques that were, in 1993, ridiculously cutting edge. Proyas brought in a relatively green stunt performer by the name of Chad Stahelski, who had been good friends with Lee and had a similar build. For a handful of scenes, including the one in which Eric sports his eerie makeup for the first time, approaching his window as lightning briefly illuminates the room, Stahleski stood in for Lee during shooting. Then, Dream Quest used previously captured footage of Lee to digitally graft the actor's face on Stahleski's body. The resulting shots certainly benefit from their brevity and from the darkness in which they were shot, but even today, the effect holds up remarkably well. Stahleski went on to direct John Wick; & I have a strong feeling that had Lee not died, he’d have been cast into the role!!!

In the 90's i was the token white EDM fan,but a lover of graphic novels,and loved O'Barrs work. So i went to watch this and its abysmal sequel. Can remember being sat in the cinema,being surrounded by emos and goths,and hearing someone say " finally,someone made a movie for us",and then his mate replied "nah,this is for everyone". Got talking to them afterwards..a white raver and a bunch of leather clad painted 20 yr olds...and just sat in a pub discussing the movie,and how it affected us all the same but differently. Now im a 49 yr old dad of 2 and still friends with that crowd of "freaks' i met that night. Its a movie i watch at least once a week,and still get goosebumps every damn time! And we still talk about it.

Dude what a cool story. I'm ten years younger, but was the raver kid for whom half our crew were all about grunge and britpop, yet we all read comic books. And this movie always meant a lot to me as a half Chinese kid (and massive Bruce Lee fan) who needed someone like me as a role model to look up to. We didn't have many, but I was the crow most every Halloween after. And you grow older and your musical appreciation becomes more encompassing, and a tapestry weaving it's way through your life starts to make itself apparent that goes beyond music, youth subcultures, identity, ethnicity, and threads you wouldn't have expected start binding in ways you wouldn't have foreseen, and at some point you step back, sit down, Zen like, and can appreciate the majesty of it all ✌️❤️

At 18:40, T Bird's death is my favorite scene. He only read that poem one time over a year ago. I TRULY WONDER, how many times he looked in a mirror and said, "Abashed the Devil stood, and saw how awful goodness was." He tries to argue his way out. When he realizes he recognizes Eric, and things aren't normal, he stops fighting immediately. He KNOWS, he belongs in hell. He repeats the poem as he understands it's true meaning.
