I was in India at the time as a traveller and never thought that the separate Sikh state was a good idea. After I witnessed so many innocent Sikhs being targeted with the state forces deliberately delayed to restore calm, the Sikhs are better off on their own independent country. In fact most of the states that are drawn on ethnic lines are better off independent than to be ruled by the Hindi belt and mobs sitting in Parliament.

Whenever someone would come to ask where are the sikhs next door? They said they left long back. That small store is still there i see it wenever i go to naani's house it gives me chills the sikhs still live next door in the same house they are lifelong friends of my mom's family. Well no doubt about this at all, since the separation of "Sikh" as a separate religious category was undertaken by British authorities. In fact India's constitution was created not on the basis of what Hindus wanted it, but it was under created under force in 1935.

Swami Vivekananda, who represented Hinduism at the World parliament of religions, himself was a "Sikh" of Ramakrishna. In fact, Ramakrishna had at least 10-12 "Sikhs", Vivekananda was one of them.
