Something i’ve noticed is when these “other people” pop up on the screen. One is in front of the other. (For the most part) Danny sits in the background and the other person is in the front. Which makes me believe that’s him switching personalities. 1 Personality takes the backseat and the other steps forward.

i think danny's friends jonny and mike are also his other personalities too. the way they both randomly pop up in scenes is suspicious (i.e. mike is randomly in danny's house as danny is waking up, jonny somehow knows where the drug dealer led danny to get a bj so he could attack him). it would also explain why ariana was interacting with them at the party too.

i feel like he doesnt actually have a brother, and that was his first split to distance himself from the SA from his stepdad. I think his friends, ariana, and yitzhak were splits that developed later on for different purposes. His friends, so he wouldnt feel alone. Ariana, as a product of the SA. Yitzhak, to protect him. The shrink has that line essentially asking him what he isnt telling himself, and also asks him if he forgets things alot. Also when hes kissing that chick and Ariana says youre so beautiful she whispers it back to him, as if he said it, never acknowledging her.

Everyone Danny encounters is in his head, except for the detective / psychologist. You can tell the way that people speak to the others (Ariana and Yitzak) and what their response is if you look closely. I also noticed that there is a handoff of the gun both from Danny to Ariana back to Danny, then when Yitzak is protecting him, another hand off. They do what he cannot. I think Adam was his first split personality. Also a big "tell" was when Ariana said she wanted a burger and then when they are in the diner, there is only one plate of food and one drink for both of them.

I think the main kid has split personalities. His step dad sexually abused him for years. His little brother was also a victim of sexual abuse and committed suicide, OR that was his first split to distance mentally from what happened to him. I also think that the dude in the ghost house and Ariana were real. I think that one of Danny’s alternates kills them both right away after they help him and then takes on the persona of Ariana at night, but also sees her as a his friend with commonalities, but a girl who has been through the same things like he had. He said, “I felt like I missed her all his life,” I don’t t think he could accept that as a straight man he was raped repeatedly and then sold himself for money to survive, so he made a female persona take on that shame. He even eluded to it when he said, “a hand job doesn’t make me gay.” He is her at night and is selling herself on the street to keep up with the bills for the cover up. She comes home traumatized, Danny wakes up refreshed. He didn’t have to live through it. It even eluded to it when the two of them are being hounded by men sexually commenting on ariana, but they have very effeminate voices leading me to believe they were talking to danny, not his imaginary ariana walking with him. He can’t remember when he is her, so he thinks they are talking to her not him. Back to why I think Ariana and ghost house guy died quickly is because Ariana makes Danny a blt for breakfast, the same thing his mom makes and leads me to believe his alternate made it and he thinks it’s her. I think his friends are alternates as well and I think he was the one who shot at the dude who sold the gun to Danny and broke in. I think his girlfriend saw him switch and do the shooting then switch back to himself. Last but not least, I think he is going to find his dad to kill him for leaving him in this mess. His alternates are gonna take out everyone who never helped him.

he is such a sweetie. tom plays him so well. he just makes me cry. he is so pure sometimes. he never believes anything good comes his way, and usually it ends pretty fast. i have no idea how this will all turn out but i hope he will be okay 😭😭😭 the way they were both molested by the same guy WHAT? how does that even happen... i seriously don't know where this story is going to go. 💕but im all in!

I’m honestly not surprised Holland wants to take a break after this it feels like it would be a lot mentally and physically as an actor. Honestly knowing when to take a break is something all actors should do especially with heavy shit

I think Danny isn’t a twin, I think like moon knight, he created a different version of himself to help get through the trauma of being raped by his step-father… and everyone around him is in his head…

He could have DID ; and it's actually him interacting with those other characters but instead of him it is his other identities coming forward. One more courageous that would fight the guys (Yitzhak) , one with a lot of pain (Ariana) . Most often I see people speaking of only 1 identity fronting at a time but it is possible for multiple identities to coexist/front at the same time for certain people. Almost like in marvel's Moon-knight

When the drug dealer breaks into the house he says “you broke my nose” even though it wasn’t Danny who hit him with the bat.. or was it.

This is based on a true story. Can be read in The Minds of Billy Milligan. This was the first US case where someone acquitted because diagnosed with DID. Makes sense why the psychiatrist is asking who was responsible for getting the gun, who had motive, does he forget things a lot.

This series reminds me of "Raising Cain" a psychological horror thriller film written and directed by Brian De Palma, starring John Lithgow, who did a great performance of mutiple personality disorder. BIG SPOILER ALERT!!!!! That said, when a saw the trailer, I knew I would have to pay more attention in the details. For me he did have a brother that committed suicide cause he couldn't take his stepfather's abuse and that what triggered danny's split, like to survive. All his friends aren't real. And you can see that on the scenes: 1-First scene in the subway, Ariana just appears. 2-Do you really think that the guy who called him "freak" would do nothing after his friend gave him the finger and called him an a$$hole? 3-Ariana does the EXACTLY SAME sandwich like his mother. 4-Ariana being disturbed by the 3 guys on the street at night, for me is Danny wearing girl's clothes and that's the reason they bullied Danny. As this series is inspired by 1981 non-fiction novel The Minds of Billy Milligan by Daniel Keyes, one of the personalities of Billy, the main character of the book who was a man, was a lesbian like Ariana and that scene with Danny, Annabelle and Ariana, was only in his mind. Annabelle doesn't talk about Ariana, that's what I remember. 5-The scenes with Yitzak - The first one is from Danny POW as he assumes a strong personality and the one with Annabelle, that's what gave it all: She screams Danny all the time seing him with 2 of his splits = The drugdealer and Yitzak. No wonder she runs like hell from him. I'm wondering how they are gonna show us all the truth of what was real, that's what I'm waiting. Great series so far and great video. Take care, y'all.

He has DID. NONE of his friends or the people he lives with are real. They live in his head, hence the name "The Crowded Room", he targeted his stepfather because he was most likely SAed by him growing up, trauma that could have led to a split personality. I'd be interested to know if his twin was experiencing the same abuse and he/or one of his personalities decided to kill him to end his pain

Ahhh this is why I needed someone else’s opinion. Okay so my theory is he’s got a severe case of dissociative identity disorder. Ariana is a part of him that’s been destroyed by Marlin. Adam “died” but as far as I can tell, the only identities he’s had were Adam and Ariana. You can tell because the same way Marlin never interacted with Adam is the same way we never really saw Ytzack interact with Ariana. He never introduced them, she was just there. I think that’s why Jerome was so upset too is because he’s gay and isn’t aware that Danny is in an alter. It makes sense why Danny is coincidentally so close to Ariana. Danny also taking a step back while Ariana and Annabelle had sex was strange to me in this scenario. The only thing that leaves me is how Jonny and the other friend were able to see and interact with Ariana which leads me to believe they’re figments of his imagination. It also brings back something Danny said to Jonny when talking about friends. He said to him something along the lines of ‘I don’t have any friends’ and Jonny replied ‘what about me and (other guys name I can’t remember?’ And he says “That’s my point.” I think insinuating that he knows they aren’t real in some capacity. I don’t think anyone else is not real because I haven’t seen anymore evidence of it, but we’ll have to wait and see I guess lol. I just woke up and took all this from memory so if I’m wrong about something pls correct me lol

Ariana and Yitzhak were real at first but rather than sticking around and becoming a family they were one incident and when they exit the scene they never came back, but were Danny fleshing out their backstory.

I think the step dad is the cereal killer and kills people that danny is connected to. And danny witnessed him killing his brother and traumatized him, so he developed other personalities, so some are real, some are personalities, and some actually get killed by stepdad, and that is why it appears like danny is killing them. The personalitlys will dissappear only appear when they are needed and only for certain situations.

This series was so good! I hope there’s going to be a second season.

I might have watched way too many (I don't think I watched that many) thrillers or movies on the same (I think tired) subject but in the first seconds, when we see Ariana in the train window reflection, I thought, she's in his head (they were also speaking very quietly on the train and the shooting scene completely gave it away). The first time I saw Jonny, I thought, he is imaginary (he gave vibes from the Beautiful Mind's friends and also Danny said he was not "popular" and then there are two cool friends at all time). I'm not sure if you were for real with your arguments that Ariana is real? Of course she isn't, it's Danny, others see his body when she interacts with other people.

ADAM ISNT REAL, that personality became a thing after the stepdad molested him Yitzack aint real Arianna aint real Jimmy (JOhnny?( and Mike arent real. Danny out here crossdressing at night (ive watched these episodes all afew times Im excited for the next episode. I like how they were all released 3 at a time just now bc these episodes were super fluid

I agree with everyone about the DID, but what about when Amanda Seyfried’s character is showing the guy in the beginning of episode three the sketchbook, and they come across the picture of Ariana? He says, “if the description is accurate, that’s the girl from Rockefeller center.” I’m assuming that he’s referring to the description from witnesses.

Spoiler alert it's inspired in Billy Milligan´s life so I doubt any of his friends are real (except his girlfriend). Plus his friend only interact with him or with eachother and on the rare occasion they "talk" to anyone else the other person (his stepfather, mother and girlfriend) do they look either scared or confused

In the beginning of episode 3 the detective says "if the description is accurate, that's the girl from rockefeller center".. and that confused me because it seemed like he meant - the description from witnesses..

This was the saddest tv show I ever saw. It’s definitely in my top 3 favorites, but I’ll never watch it again. Some many things made my blood boil, made my heart break. I know it’s fake, but it’s not fake at the same time. This really happens to people, to children and we all need to come together to protect our children collectively. I want you to know that I do care about you and your children and what the same things for your children that I want for my own, and your children don’t deserve to be hurt or manipulated.

How did nobody see the entire story play out in episode one? Exactly 32 minutes in to the first episode it was painfully obvious what the “twist” was gonna be. I only wish they didn’t take so long to walk us there or concealed it better. They were way too heavy handed with the hints.

Hmmmm. After reading comments. It may be possible that many of the characters are in his head. Idk. I’m a little puzzled now. Why do they think all these people are victims or that people around him go missing? Did he possibly have a psychotic break at some point from trauma?! Did his stepfather molest him and that’s why he tried shooting him? What happened to his brother?!

Spoiler. His stepfather isn't the one who break him in the first place. It's his teacher. I think that's when Adam was created. The one that's willing to do things he couldn't do. Jack is his Guidance Mike is the cool kid he wants to be Israeli dude is his tough guy that will protect him in his weakness Ariana is Intimacy and connection to other people, that related to his sexual life Jhonny is escape artists that will do things to get what they want The performance of all actors is OK. But not quite strong in character. Probably because I've seen Edward Norton took similar role in "Primal Fear" which is incredibly good, the switch from awkward shy kid to serial killer's vibe is amazing in the movie. Hence, I rate The Crowded Room 6 out of 10

I think both the Yitzhak and Ariana are fake the girl cuz she gives me fight club vibes when she's around. Yitzhak I think is fake because the scene where he makes the gangster dude pee himself when he Danny comes back in the room to the girl she says something like getting away from Danny because he scared her. I took this as it was actually him with the gun about to kill the gangster so that scared the girl. I think Yitzhak is the bruiser guy in Danny's mind and Ariana is the wounded need help person in his mind.

I have just started watching and i saw a worrying sign in the opening credits in the name of Akiva Goldsman. I had started watching and could see this heading in the direction of all work by the JJ crew of Akiva and Kurtsman in which it is always "The mysterious girl who is the key to everything" Picard S1 & S2 are prime examples of this crap writing they just can't seem to do anything other than to get out of those lazy tropes. So please can you just tell me is this indeed yet another "The girl is the key to everything" story? Oh, is there also the thing they like to do where they use current day dialogue in something set in a time when nobody spoke they way they do in their shows?

I’m getting frustrated with this show because I feel like the reveal is obvious and they’re taking a LONG time to get there. Not gonna give up on it tho.

I feel they could've done a bit better with not giving EVERYTHING away. Its a slow burn but its too obvious.

What do you mean with if these ‘people are real’? Do you mean that these are just people who are just not real friends and that they are hust coming in his life to make something happen like going to his dad

I know it's shallow, but with such slow pacing, I can't get past Dann'y's hair. I really wish that one of these people - real or imaginary - would take him in for a trim🙂

While the story seems to be based on true events, the teleplay is ridiculous: an entirely telegraphed plot; ridiculous cliff hangers; and unbelievable situations. I'm only watching this because nothing else is going on in the evening; I expect no pay-off whatsoever. Holland ought to be ashamed of this series.

FYI : The project is based on the 1981 non-fiction book The Minds of Billy Milligan by Daniel Keyes. Billy Milligan was charged with robbery and the rapes of three women on the Ohio State University campus in the 1970s. While preparing for his defense, Milligan was diagnosed with multiple personality disorder, and he plead not guilty by reason of insanity, which was caused by multiple personality disorder. Milligan and his lawyers contended that two of his 24 separate personalities committed the crimes without his knowledge.
