About the series:
The Crown is a historical drama streaming television series about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, created and principally written by Peter Morgan, and produced by Left Bank Pictures and Sony Pictures Television for Netflix. It grew out of Morgan's film The Queen (2006) and his stage play The Audience (2013), and is credited as being based on the latter. The first season covers the period from Elizabeth and Philip, Duke of Edinburgh's marriage in 1947 to the disintegration of her sister Princess Margaret's engagement to Group Captain Peter Townsend in 1955. The second season covers the period from the Suez Crisis in 1956 to the retirement of Prime Minister Harold Macmillan in 1963 and the birth of Prince Edward in 1964. The third season spans the period between 1964 and 1977, including Harold Wilson's two periods as prime minister, and introduces Camilla Shand. The fourth season spans 1977 to 1990 and includes Margaret Thatcher's premiership and Lady Diana Spencer. The fifth and sixth seasons, which will close the series, will cover the Queen's reign into the 21st century.
New actors are being cast every two seasons. Claire Foy portrays the Queen in the first two seasons, alongside Matt Smith as Prince Philip and Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret. For the third and fourth seasons, Olivia Colman takes over as the Queen, Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, and Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret. Imelda Staunton, Jonathan Pryce, and Lesley Manville will succeed Colman, Menzies, and Bonham Carter, respectively, for the final two seasons. Filming takes place at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, with location shooting throughout the United Kingdom and internationally. The first season was released on Netflix on November 4, 2016, the second on December 8, 2017, and the third on November 17, 2019. The fourth season was released on November 15, 2020, with a fifth anticipated in 2022.
The Crown has received critical acclaim for its acting, directing, writing, cinematography, production values, and relatively accurate historical account of Queen Elizabeth's reign. It received accolades at the 23rd Screen Actors Guild Awards, won Best Actress for Foy in the lead role and Best Actor for John Lithgow as Winston Churchill, and has secured a total of 39 nominations for its first three seasons at the Primetime Emmy Awards, including three for Outstanding Drama Series. The series was nominated for Best Drama TV Series at the 77th Golden Globe Awards.

This season’s score is dark and foreboding...something Shakespearean about it with those Tudor harp undertones.

The music on the show is beyond amazing, this man needs an award. But, I want to break into tears from its effect especially when it centers Diana. Truly shows her presence and impact precisely, especially knowing how she was rewarded in the end for all her greatness. I hate this world for reasons like that, RIP to the greatest royal and princess to ever live and will ever live 👑👸🙏💜

Its so haunting ominous, and melancholy, but beautiful at the same time. It stays with you. It is a beautiful tribute to Princess Diana- Queen of People's Hearts.

Don’t you think there was a parallel between Diana’s first visit to the Crown politbureau and the imperial stag that was hurt and being chased for the kill. At the end of that episode we see thatstag’s head being hung on a wall, portraying Diana’s future with a family that treats stags as more prized than human beings

But remember, it was Diana who finally spotted the stag and directed the kill. It seems that in a way, she has a hand in her own capture, even if she unknowingly plays the part.

@@Custodes21 There was a moment when Diana asked if they should get closer to the stag, and Philip said, “No. we won’t get another chance.” And the camera cuts to Diana. WOW. Chilling. They could have cut back to the stag when he said that or even a wide shot of them in the grass. Bu,t No. The camera immediately cut to a close up of Diana’s face. And after he shot the deer 🦌, the camera lingered on Diana’s beautiful face. And her blue eyes looking on. From a distance. Then that tragic harp music comes in. My god. What Brilliant direction.

Peter Morgan has used the stag in both 'The Queen' and 'The Crown' . 'The stag? … It's all everyone was talking about...,' (if I remember correctly) 'It's good for business...,' International commercial visitors willing to pay good money to hunt. For it's magnificence and beauty it must be hunted and later hung as a status and power symbol as well as a prize trophy. This wounded stag suffers in agony after the failed attempt to kill it before the final shot. Diana goddess of hunting, lives up to her name and helps make the hunt a success. But this is not the only Greek parallel, her life would play out like a tragedy and when we first meet this character, she is playing a character in 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' set in Athens. She is called the 'People's Princess' and the 'Queen of Hearts' but in reality she was what she was- a goddess. 'A rose by any other name would smell as sweet', 'England's Rose' ; whose ethereal beauty and charm captured and charmed mortal men and women alike. (*most anyway). In Africa in the age of oral history when stories were told in fables to narrate and reflect the past, present and current social and political climate. Fables were popular to 'conceal the truth while portraying it' protect the identities and those in power. It was always implied, never said, it was up to the listeners to deduce. The Lion, the Hyena, the Hare and the Chameleon were some of the popular archetypes. In these African fables there was always a moral lesson to be learnt, such as do not be greedy, or too selfish, or too sluggish or you ought to be more cunning etc. Animal Farm by George Orwell applies this technique with such memorability and simplicity. I marvel at the excellent form of storytelling in this compelling drama (the symbolism, the music, the brilliant acting, the dark, dank and grey foreboding scenery- took my breath away) . From the cave drawings to Netflix, we still have stories to tell and hope that we can tell them as brilliantly, boldly and as breath-taking as we can and derive the right lessons from our viewing experience.

Notice how scenes indoors on evenings even with the electricity on, the colors are dark. I kept thinking my iPad brightness was off. So dark is this season, the best so far. I keep going back to early in epi 1 when Charles and Diana first met. I then jump to epi 2 during Diana’s visit to Balmoral and her stalking along Prince Philip and their return from the hunt where the camera focuses on Diana’s face and the politburo look at each other in silent approval. Tragedy and drama
