What did you think of The Crown Season 6 Part 1? I genuinely thought parts of the final episode where carried out so well. The conversation between Diana and Charles in the final episode was a definite stand out moment for me. Let me know your thoughts below!

Hated all of the episodes. It’s hard to comprehend that this was the same writer of “The Queen” who wrote these episodes. And what Philip said to William as they walked behind her coffin almost made me scream. The whole world was crying because of HER. Her death was seismic.

@@susanjenkins6893- The movie was entertaining but made the late QEII and Phillip look so absent of compassion for Diana. It also implied it was Tony Blair who single handedly saved the monarchy by getting the Queen to acquiesce and go to London while in the series it was her thinking about the impact Diana had on the people that made her realize what the right thing to do was. (the supposed ghost scene) . In the course of a week she went from almost losing her job to the height of her popularity and by the end of that summer she was held in even higher esteem. Over the next 25 years she continued to endear herself to her people and those all over the world.

I like watching The Crown. But let’s keep in mind that every single private conversation in the series is pure fiction. No one can know what Charles felt or said, what Diana felt or said or what the Queen felt or said. Entertaining, but pure fiction.

Well, there Is a documentary on Netflix about the immediate aftermath of Diana's death where first-hand witnesses Who worked for the Royal family at the time gave pretty accurate accounts of what happened that night and what the royals said and how they behaved, so some of the things showed might not be Total fiction.

Which is why the writers use sensationalism like Diana appearing after her death. The reality is there is no such thing as a ghost with the scientific explanation for people who see them being sleep deprivation and therefore in their minds.

Go out into the garden,Have to whisper in restaurants, unable to have a private phone call, all things we take for granted as basic human rights and freedoms. That’s beyond a cage. It must be isolating, so confining, I don’t see how she didn’t go mad under that kind of pressure. Marilyn turned to drugs and did go insane. Michael Jackson too. Elvis. It was fine. The “ghost” scenes were minor and not as bad as the reviews are making it. They were not talking to ghost Diana, they were talking to her memory, which we see a lot in other films. If anything the Al Fayad family should be pissed, they pretty much make her death their fault and Charles was completely unbelievable. I find it hard to believe he advocated for her as much they portrayed. Did the actual crown pay off the show runners to make him look good?

If you watch the movie,The Queen, the one that was played by Helen Mirren and read Diana's biography after death or articles, it is a fact that Charles had stood for Diana on her death, it was Charles' idea to personally fetch her body in Paris and Charles also side with Tony Blair with regards to public funeral..Charles had told the Queen to go out and meet the public and suggested that the royal family must show something in support of people's grief.Maybe, out of guilt or regret, or as Diana is the mother of his sons, thats why Charles cared for her on her death.

Interesting comment because I felt exactly the opposite. ED might be a good actress, but I spent all of the first three episodes wondering if Diana was REALLY like that?? She didn't ring true at all, and I couldn't stop wondering if Diana really spent so much of her waking hours with her head down, and black-rimmed eyes looking up. That perpetual "look" was so grating. Yes it was one of her "looks", but it seemed like the series relied on it so much it was almost laughable.

Charles was incredibly upset. His sons had lost their mother. He also thought people would think he was behind her death. It has been written in many books and spoken about by numerous correspondents who’ve covered the RF their relationship was in a good place when she died. If you think about it Charles had everything he ever wanted and people were starting to accept him being with Camilla. If nothing else he knew Diana was a devoted mom and patron of the causes she believed in. But because he was happy and confident he was no longer threatened by her and her popularity. Had Diana lived she’d have found true love and had a fulfilling life. She was a monarchist and believed in her son fulfilling his destiny so most likely she and Charles would have been friends as Camilla is with APB and would have attended the late QEII’s funeral and Charles’s Coronation.

@@peachygal4153- He wanted acceptance from the Royal Family and British Citizenship. With his son married to the future King’s mother he believed he’d get both. Diana had never treated him like an outsider but he used his friendship with her to lure her to his Yacht and throw his son at her. He was a creep and a hypocrite. He told Kelly Fisher the engagement to Dodi was off. He couldn’t understand why the RF didn’t want anything to do with him but treated Kelly the same way because her family wasn’t wealthy. The reality is Mohammad Al Fayed was the cause of Diana having to stay an extra night in Paris and it was his personnel who put her and Dodi’s lives in danger which ultimately led to their deaths. Apparently the car they were in was bought second hand after it had been in a wreck and totaled and the seat belts were actually broken. If he’d have let the woman go home to her kids she and his son would still be alive. He couldn’t live with his own guilt so he spent the next 25 years trying to blame the wreck on the RF and lying to people about the true nature of Dodi and Diana’s relationship. He started the rumor about Diana being pregnant.

I do believe King Charles was devastated by her death. I'm sure in some way he questioned his responsibility in all of it. Meaning, if he hadn't of married her or if their divorce hadn't happened then she would be alive. Things we all think about when we lose someone close. We rarely get first hand accounts from the RF about their private lives. Why not ensure true portrayal when we do? For example, William and Harry actually spoke about their last phonecall with Diana and expressed regrets over wanting to go back to playing with their cousins. If they knew it was the last call, they'll not be in a rush to hang up. Why not portray that? Even i know what a load of crap it was that they would ask "are you going to marry Dodi?". The second thing thats annoying is that Diana looked quite happy in the real cctv footage from August 30, 1997. Of course we don't know much about Diana Dodi relationship but I'm sure it wasnt that stressy and edgy! Mygod, this show was un-f***ing- believably kind to Charles! This is a Netflix show, not a documentary. Diana's relationship with Hasnat Khan, briefly alluded to in Season 5, lasted until the summer of 1997, and Diana's 'romance' with Dodo Fayed was meant to make Hasnat jealous. She routinely used to call the paparazzi (when it was convenient for her). She played a dangerous game.

Very little in the show with respect to Diana is accurate, and if the show is going to portray Al-Fayed the least they could do would be have him say on the show what he's always said in real life: that he believes the royals killed princess Diana. There's several documentaries on this and it's not at all without evidence -- the white fiat uno, the pavement being scrubbed clean after the crash-- Diana herself (!) leaving notes saying that Charles was planning an accident and her suspicion of them cutting her brakes once, the tapping of her phone by the royals... the queen reportedly joking that someone had greased her brakes... I advise those who doubt me to do their own research.

IMO, they overplayed Mohammed Fayeds hand in the series of events…although he was definitely doing everything in his power to set up the romance ..like clearing his yacht for their private use complete with the best of luxuries in the hopes of Dodie, who was known for having a great deal of charm, wooing Diana…in a lavish style…there is no evidence of him calling in the paparazzi, I think that was added by the writers to add drama…which it did. But don’t believe everything as portrayed in a TV series…the writers took a great deal of liberty with the personal conversations and actions.

I don’t believe the same respect was shown to Dodi Fayed‘s father as much respect was shown to the queen and her family. They try to make him out to be the bad guy at the end of the day you can go back that’s never what he was, he loved his son more than the queen love, Diana.

He wanted them to marry so he’d get British Citizenship and acceptance by the Royal Family. I’ve thought about it for years. Diana was the only member of the RF who treated him respectfully and thought she’d be safe and secluded from the paps on his yacht. MAF didn’t give a damn about her safety. His personnel couldn’t protect her and put her life at risk. Supposedly the Mercedes they were in had been purchased second hand after being wrecked and totaled by previous owner which is why seat belts didn’t work. IMO he was so consumed with his own guilt he spent the rest of his life trying to pin the accident on the Royal Family as well as spin the fairy tale Dodi and Diana were engaged and she was pregnant. He built a morbidly grotesque shrine for them at Harrods. The episodes shed light on the reason she stayed in Paris the extra night. All these years I actually thought the old crow did care about her but seems he used her just like Charles did. He’s the one who told Kelly Fisher that Dodi wouldn’t be marrying her. We knew Diana wasn’t in love with Dodi because she had told friends and her Butler but IMO Dodi wasn’t in love with her either but was that desperate to gain his father’s approval. Also for me the series has allowed us to get to know Dodi.

There will always be conspiracy theories about the night. But if you take a guy whose BAC was over twice the legal limit, and have him participate in a street race where he speeds through busy city streets, there is most likely going to be a crash. I feel like this season was already completed before the Queen's death but then cut and edited a lot either out of respect for the late Queen or they were threaten to do it. Charles depicted as this wonderful and caring ex husband - puh-leeasee. The show was way too kind to him. Why exclude the scandalous interview where Diana had stated how Charles was plotting to kill her in a car accident - we've all seen the interview, it's still out there. Wasn't it stated by the Queen at some point that as long as Diana is alive, she is considered married to Charles, regardless the divorce being official, did I imagine that? Anyway, despite all the efforts from the Royals to make themselves look good in this show (we all know they 'cleaned' it up prior to release date), we, the people, remember.

I thought it was very tastefully done...and of COURSE every private personal conversation is pure speculation but, just like how every joke contains a kernel of truth, all of that dialogue must've been based on SOMETHING. And lol sigh, I must admit, I did cry a little bit- arrgh they got me!! Cos I remember watching it all on telly, those 2 small boys walking solemnly behind Diana's carriage, the masses of grieving people, the stacks and stacks of flowers and cards and teddybears...it was heart wrenching. Diana was iconic in life AND death, and the way The Firm was so worried about her being a "loose cannon" and overshadowing them rings kinda true- they didn't show her enough respect in life and they took too long to respect her in death...so the way it was all handled on the show was very well done. And bloody hell, if they thought Diana's "antics" were bad, why wasn't Fergie's toesicking tabloid scandal brought up??! Or will that be addressed in the later half of the series?? This is now when the show will have to tread very carefully, cos most of these people are still alive, their relatives are still alive, and if they do carry on further to more modern times I can TOTALLY imagine Harry&Meg sueing gigglesnort. I love "The Crown"...and the way Diana's death was handled actually made Charles seem sympathetic and very human (although the actor doing that lip thing got old pretty fast lol) and the actress playing Diana was BRILLIANT, she had all her mannerisms down pat, well done to everyone involved, it was so so SO very well done, I cannot WAIT for the rest of the season

I like this take on the first part of season VI. Although I have a deep love and fascination of all things Diana, the rest of the cast had little part in the story. Even the Queen had very few lines and spent most of the first part looking displeased. I can’t imagine Imelda Staunton was too pleased when she read the script. The wonderful Lesley Manville, whose portrayal of the aging and boozy Margaret is nothing short of a masterclass, was wasted in this part and in some scenes had no lines at all. Dominic West was excellent, bringing more emotion to Charles than we have ever seen, on screen or off. Overall I loved the first part but I can’t help wonder if the show’s hour-by-hour portrayal of Diana’s last few weeks and days pandered just a little to an enduring public fascination with her death, at the expense of delving deeper into the significance of her death on the royal establishment and the public.

As always enjoyed the Crown 👑. And of course it's all titulating speculation with regards to private conversations that ensued. What struck me of course was the portrayal of Mr. Mohammed Al-Fayed and his ambition to to climb the social status for cultural preservation ladder as it were. From series 5 it was very prominate he kept trying to get into the good graces of the royals but immensely failed and the same appears to be the Crowns continued narrative by using his Son Dodi via her Grace Diana but alas it was not to be. And of course the final snub from the Palace despite they lost a member of their family along with his but who's to say the Queen finally did privately grant him an audience even just to formally acknowledge his shared grief? We will never know nor will we be sure that it was just a plain organised accident. That being said I think all the cast played their respective roles extremely well from the small mannerisms of Diana, Charles and William to the sensitive nature not to portray the late Prinesses body. I do feel it was rushed and now not really fussed for the rest of the series to play out as it would've been interesting to watch the funeral and also the impact it had on the world along with both families but hey 🎭

I have a problem with the carbon monoxide levels in the drivers blood and how that was ignored when at the levels detected would have rendered the person unconscious. So my theory being that there was exhaust piped into the car’s interior, maybe directly into the drivers side, and the car that was driven was a rental obtained just a couple hours before the incident. There was a report the car had been stolen and had extensive work on it just previously before crash. Perfect way to poison the whole car and maybe the accident was a side effect of the carbon monoxide. If you think about if they had driven normally without crashing that the carbon monoxide would have killed everyone in car before they even knew what was going on.

I had mixed feelings about that last episode - the scenes involving the deceased Diana and the deceased Dodi which for me was for nothing - why try to imagine such personal and private conversations but then again its fiction anyway so..... The scene on the plane with Diana and Charles was well done and it drove home how excellent Elizabeth Debicki was in it. I was awake late that night in London 1997 sitting at a cafe in Soho hearing that she had been in a car accident - we were shocked then the news worsened until that awful announcement and I swear til the day I die you could hear a pin drop until the sound of sobbing got louder and louder - I was numb. A young man was sitting on a car bonnet near to me and his face dropped into his hands and he was literally heaving with sobbing. The next morning I walked to Kensington palace with some flowers - I lived nearby and it was early in the morning. I'd only slept a few hours. The flowers had only started to be placed there and by the end of the day a mountain of them had formed. Months later I served Trevor Rhyss Jones (sic) the minder of Dodi and sole survivor. His table ordered a bottle of Chardonnay which I ser and it was just bizarre knowing that that man, still bearing scars and an arm sling from the accident but no memory of course, was in the car with her, it was just surreal. Her death broke the peoples' heart. That's for sure. And that horribly sad image of the boys following their mother's coffin. I rewatched the final episode again and cried this time - it was cathartic. I remember her wedding day - I was only 10, and that long long train on her dress was incredible and she was just lovely. In the celebrity obsessed times we live in, the ones who lived then with her, know there will never be another like her.

I agree about the actor who played Charles - his performance was very moving. Emelda Staunton was also quite good. The actress playing Diana did a good job, but, the actor playing Dodi really fell short and it seemed that his voice was dubbed in by some cheesy American actor. The unconvincing Dodi really hurt the show. Also, the trite conversation he and Diana had in the hotel room when she was telling him to stand up to his dad was ridiculous and not believable. I'd say the first 3 episodes were not very good, but the final episode was good for the two above mentioned performances.

Of course The Crown is a fictional show, however it is based on actual events. As an American who loves History I have read numerous books regarding the Royal Family. It has been reported mainly by ex staff members that Charles did react to Diana’s death similarly to how The Crown Portrayed it. Staff members from Balmoral have said they went running to Charles room because they heard him let out a wail followed by uncontrollable sobbing. It was reported by witnesses that reaction at the Paris Hospital was similar. I tend to believe the reports. Mainly because he treated Diana poorly in her life and now that she was gone he would never have the opportunity to make up for it. The guilt he felt must have been crippling. He also did fight for her to be brought back in a Royal Jet and for her to be given a Royal funeral. I’ve read that it was the Queen Mother and Prince Philip who were most opposed to it as she was no longer married to Charles. It is said that Prince Philip supported Diana and took her side in the divorce, whereas Queen Elizabeth let it be known she was against the divorce and refused to pick a side. The Queen mother hated Diana. Mainly because Diana’s grandmother was a Lady in Waiting to the Queen’s mom and she didn’t much like Diana. The Queen Mother initially loved Diana and really pushed for the Diana/Charles match.

I agree with everyone who said that Elizabeth Debicki was absolutely amazing as Diana, I’ve watched “Diana, in her own words” on RU-vid and the actress had her voice, mannerisms, attitude down pat - fantastic job! The actor playing Charles did not do as well. I didn’t get that Charles vibe at all, but that might have been the director’s fault, pandering to the royal family a bit too much. They made him too ambitious and too caring in the series. Let’s remember that Charles never tried to push his mother off the throne by conspiring with Tony Blair, that was pure fiction. And let’s remember that every time Charles is portrayed on screen as being compassionate and empathetic he did THIS in real life: after Diana threw herself down the stairs, while pregnant with William, Charles turned on his heel and went horse back riding, completely ignoring the tragedy that almost happened - that’s according to Diana, in her own words! The Crown is an amazingly written show but I do feel that it’s a love letter to the Royal family and gives them way too much credit and way too much personality. In real life these people are more like entitled, spoiled cold fish who wouldn’t spit on you if you were on fire. If you don’t believe me, look up the video when Charles encounters a man who faints in front of him. We learn later that the man was ok but Charles had no way of knowing if this guy was having a cardiac arrest or a serious medical issue - and he just kind of laughs it off and walks away - ZERO concern for the man! That should tell you everything you need to know about Charles’s character, how little he cares about others (especially commoners) and how very fictional his positive portrayal on The Crown really is.

I like different episodes of the movie but the part that stood out to me is the Queen giving the speech to the nation. Now I remember this quite vividly. The Royals were very silent after Diana’s death. I honestly believe that the Queen only did the speech because she was forced too. The Queen almost looked as though she was in disbelief when she heard of Diana’s death. I was also surprised of how Charles grieved in the movie. I have always wondered if he felt any type of regret or remorse after loosing Diana. I just feel as though Charles was happy that she would no longer be a threat to him at least in his eyes I think he saw her as a threat because of her popularity. I still don't like Camilla she is pathetic to me and always will be.

Their relationship was presented as a rather far fetched miscommunication, which I doubt it was. The season so far seemed as it was thrown together just before the bar closed.

The end scene was so crazy. It gave me a very uncomfortable feeling. I think the writers are inserting how they actually feel about it and they can't say out loud. Thr music, the close up and looking behind her as if Diana is watching her all indicated guilt in her death.

Bur we were told which is the truth that neither Diana nor Dodi and even less Henri Paul were wearing seatbelts.

I wish Diana and JFK junior would have got together instead. Maybe they would have both been alive.

It was very well-made, though as usual, I skipped a lot of the Dodi part - that's literally not why I watch a series called The Crown. Also, with Peter Morgan bringing Diana back from the grave like he did, why oh why did he do such a terrible job with the Queen? Olivia Colman was the last good QE2, though really excessively gloomy, and focusing a lot on everyone else while ignoring some pretty badass things the actual Queen did - look up the vid of when this guy fired shots at her while she was riding in a parade, and see her managing to control a scared horse while riding sidesaddle. But no, we only see Olivia getting gloomier and gloomier, so much that it's a shock watching news footage of some occasions and seeing the Queen smiling and laughing. And then we come to Imelda Staunton, who's a great actress but really wrong for the part. Even something petty like the hair and the clothes for the live speech - it's so frustrating to me, because Peter Morgan made a movie called The Queen (with Helen Mirren), about the same period of time, and it was amazing. I'm starting to feel like he's developed a dislike for QE2 in the meantime and is just focused on making her look really bad.

After watching the episode with Diana getting stuck in her life’s last situation trying to go home taking a reasonable decision.. it makes you so furious about the two selfish sides making Diana stuck in the middle of their selfishness and greed to their own interests from Prince Charles to Mohammad El Fayed! 😢😡🤬 No matter how she tried.. they both should be feeling guilty and they are guilty!

Very thoughtful pity people didn't realise these people live on a different planet from us people crying over someone they only saw on TV . Hm the queen would enjoy this spectacle.the only royal I ever respected.

its sad that now thru film the actual "crown" can shove whatever words they would have Diana say in some actors mouth. Definitely the producers are trying to rewrite the dead queen's legacy over the "Diana problem" and trying to pump up Charles the Last-and Camilla well she can be so proud that she will be the crucible that finally kills the Monarchy with her desperate clawing to the top of it for the last 40 years. If you value Princess Diana's legacy don't watch this spew. Obviously someone is getting paid alot to put another coat of thick buttercream frosting on the shit cake that is the family Windsor
