I think so many people missed why this speech really impacted Philip and made him commit fully to his marriage - he knew his wife was so by the book when it came to her Queenly duties. The fact she publicly went off script and inserted a direct and personal message just for him from her - really brought back the humanity of their relationship. He was hearing his wife speak, not his queen.
I'm an American, and it's the day after the announcement of the death of prince phillip, and I immediately thought of this scene....i know he was 99 but he was a WW2 vet just like the Queen, we love our ww2 vets over here....im 44, and I'm just saddened, teary eyed because he always been there....its just that, why did he have to die during this time? Why did he, that pillar of strength, have to go while the world is going nuts?
I'm 60 and, of all things, an American. Well, technically, in this era of hyphenated-intersectionality and identity politics, I'm a Virginian first, which is about the closest thing to a Brit as you're apt to find anywhere here in the US. In an ever-changing political universe, the one thing that has remained true and constant is Her Majesty. Politicians and dictators come and go like buses in a major metropolis, perhaps not with the same timeliness but certainly with the same regularity. I was born in the last months of the Eisenhower administration and although I have no memory of him per se, I do recall the litany of his successors: Kennedy, LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush II, Obama, Trump and now Biden; thirteen Presidents in all. I've watched governments abroad toppled by communist insurrection or democracy movements, only to watch them flip back. I've seen allies turn to enemies and enemies to allies. And through all those years of turmoil, all the decades of political vacillation, confusion, uncertainty and instability the one stabilizing constant was the Queen. I told my wife that when Her Majesty departs, and I pray it will not be for a good long while yet, I intend to fly to London regardless of expense, even if I have to stay in a hovel, to pay my respects to a great and wonderful leader who was a force for good in this world. The world's Kofi Annon's and Desmond Tutu's and Pope Francis' and Nelson Mandela's and Lech Walesa's and the glittering panoply of all the supposed democratic reformers pale in comparison to her and her achievements.
Euro-mutt here and I feel so very similar regarding Philip. And I've seen it in my private life as well during this pandemic. I guess it's just the time of these great people and I believe they've taught us so much, it's now our turn to apply their lessons and doing it ourselves. It are tough times but these generations lived through worse and made it. Best wishes to you and bless you.
I know she's the Queen and English folk will roll their eyes at this, but I wish I could hug her, to tell her we're thinking of her and we value her family's service, and her just being there means so much to the rest of us.

Its widely known Prince Philip was an alpha male and there were problems in the marriage starting right around the time she became queen. Privately know one knows why or won't admit it but many staff and friends say they did fight a lot during that time. He did fight for his children to have his name so we know some of these events were true. I think it was just the pressure of duty, who knows if it was cheating. Eventually he settled into his role easily when he got older. I think its important to remember this show is entertainment and it takes real life events along with stories from people who know them as well as rumors and asks what happened or even what could have happened.
He almost looks like Prince Harry doesn't he? And yes, I've seen the pictures from years before in which a younger prince phillip strikingly looks like Prince harry.
Am i the only one who feels that harry wierdly is like the son prince philip would have loved to have had, he is sporty, livid and outgoing like prince philip would have wanted charles to be...its just a thought anyway, and coincidentally enough he looks alot like philip did in his youth.

So I watched prince Philip's funeral today. I wonder who all thought that 4 member choir really rocked, and is going to watch the Crown again just to feel like Philip is still here....

The tour of Prince Philip and the Thursday club members around the Commonwealth and world to the Australia Olympics and around the Commonwealth was so awesome. Darn miserable women back home had to ruin everything.
