Poor Rapport... I wish he could have won this one. Anyway, what a battle. Thank you Mr. Daniel.

3rd escape by Carlsen. Armageddon against Firouzja and Rapport, classical against Tari. Btw Judith Polgar made an interesting observation. She said something along these lines : that because Carlsen is the world champion in classical, and is great at rapid, blitz and armageddon, he has given shorter time control chess credibility and is re-shaping the game. In contrast to a world champion in classical who chooses not to play shorter time control matches, or who is not good at shorter time control matches. (Caveat : I may not have accurately understood her comments. I don't want to quote her wrongly)

Fine analysis as ever, very tough fight by Carlsen, one wrong move was enough really tough for Rapport. Thanks Daniel and keep up the good work

It's amazing how Magnus survives such positions, he has some psychological edge on his opponents.
@erikskov8759
@erikskov8759 3 года назад
I agree with you to some extend! But their ratings indicates that Magnus is the better chess player, and chance has a tendency to favour the better player.
@sebszab76
@sebszab76 3 года назад
@@erikskov8759 Since Magnus has such a high rating, I think many players have much respect (even if it's unconscious) to him, and are sometimes unable to convert advantages. Nepo doesn't seem to be such a player, so I'm very much looking forward to seeing the WC match.

Safe to thumbs up before video even started. ;)

I think Magnus's reputation earns him almost as many points as his skill. His opponents always bottle their chance.
@Greew11
@Greew11 3 года назад
I think that is just underestimating the skill Magnus has to find a defence/draw the game.
@spartanthe300ththermopylae4
@spartanthe300ththermopylae4 3 года назад
@GMeazza except in this case Rapport didn't "bottle it". He let the win slip through his fingers beause he was too keen and actually "went for it".

Nice one, Daniel King. Be yourself, when commenting the matches, the audience will find your sympathic personality. Some need just more time.

I like classical chess, and this is essentially a classical tournament. But the armageddon game introduces a little added spice. I wouldn't want this in every tournament, but it's okay!
