My jaw nearly dropped at this clip of the new film. I've been a fan of Bardem's Spanish-language works for a while, and hearing a Cuban accent come out of his mouth is like. . . wow. Gotta see this.

He is from Las Islas Canarias which was the most influential accent to shape the Cuban accent so it's not really much of a stretch at all, it's in him. His accent has been influenced by mainland Spain but his true Canario accent is extremely similar to the Cuban accent.

I absolutely adore Javier. He is such an incredible actor and wonderful human. He's 100% correct about the sound and tone of how Cubans speak English. I'm Puerto Rican and I hear the same musicality and animation vocals in PRs and Cubans when they speak Spanish and English.

Hmmm not so sure. As a Cuban American who has seen a few clips from Desi Arnaz, I don't see much of him in the performance so far, and I only see a Spanish accent with a slightly higher pitch. He tried in his interview, but it comes out cartoonish, like Al Pacino in Scarface (where had a real Cuban American accent right there next to him in his friend). That said, Javier Bardem is usually a very good actor.

For spanish speaking people both accents are as different as can be. Jamaican english compared to british english
@azul-t6m
@azul-t6m 2 года назад
@@xsotax It is a bit like comparing British English, where they finish every sentence, pronounce every letter, the t’s, the s, with a very clean and direct, sometimes seen as cold European way of saying things, with the American accent, where they normally soften the words, cut sentences and talk with a less straight to the point pronunciation. In Spain there are areas, like Canary Islands or Andalucía, where they talk with a very similar accent to some Latin American countries, but that’s because that’s were the XVII century conquerors were from back then. Most people in Spain do not speak like that though. There are also local languages that influences the European Spanish. And then there is specific vocabulary to each Spanish speaking country, some of the Latin American words also exist to this day in Spain and they are used in the same or different context, but other words do not exist at all or existed in old Castilian but disappeared from the common language a long time ago. Spain has also had a lot of influence from the surrounding countries that once invaded it like Italy, Greece, France, UK, Germany, Middle East/Arabic countries, as well as other minor influences from some other northern African and northern European countries, so lots of spanish words have those cultural influences and those origins. In the case of Latin America, they have native words not used in Europe and there are places like Mexico, for example, where there is a lot of influence from the US, so that’s why they sometimes add English words to their vocabulary on a daily basis. Social Media and the Internet is also changing the way younger generations speak this days too, mainly because of videogames, foreign tv shows, movies, etc.

There is nothing "wierd" about calling it a spirit that comes through the artist. We don't have precise language to describe what happens when actors or singers or instrumentalists create their art. Ask a songwriter or a pianist where it flows from and many of them will just say, I don't know it just comes to me somehow . I don't know if there's a god, but art might be the greatest proof of it.

As an American living in Spain, I will tell you that there are no people more open and honest and expressive than the Spaniards. What Americans need to understand now is the time of Franco here in Spain and how it affected this culture and how the people still remember the repression and poverty and the cruelty that Franco inflicted on the majority of the population. Research it, learn about it, you Americans who voted for El Trumpo.....our democracy and lives depend on your awareness.

Yet there seems to have be a concerted effort to forget every aspect, repress all memories of the Franco years by the governments that followed . My English parents live there and told me about a local wall in Spain where 14 people were shot by Francoists - the bullet holes remain - no memorial. This seems to happen a lot in societies that have been through such Trauma , not least because the perpetrators and their successors are so numerous and also , still in positions of power.

@@FlowerGirl.MN50 backlash for "selling out " I think . Antonio Banderas was at the time part of a small group of actors that were viewed very seriously. Actors in Europe have a different feeling ..as part of art that can be transcendental. Also he had been married many many years and after getting "discovered" by the Hollywood elite they broke up . Also not sure if you're old enough to remember Madonna's documentary, she really was attracted to him and have him a platform for the US audiences to discover him as something exotic. I knew Banderas sin late 90's as part of Almodovar's troupe of actors . Adored his performances especially in Tie me up, tie me down .

Interesting that he mentions Pablo at the end...in Narcos, Wagner "Went There"...he inhabited the madness n brought it to the screen. Amazing, what actors do...so we can enjoy our popcorn 🍿

I run a pub, last night someone got too drunk and started getting rowdy. It was that actor that played the bad guy in Skyfall. "Javier Bardem?" Nah, let him off with a warning

I know that Franco's dictatorship was a rough time for España and I wager that is what made Mr Bardem such a focused and committed actor. He treasures the position he is in and the opportunities his talent commands on set. I have seen him in several roles and each time, it is like watching a different person altogether. He is the genuine article.

I just ended watching it and im no critic im just a fan of cinema since I was a kid like a lotta people and I always knew about Lucille and her show but nothing else and im so glad I could get to meet Lucille through Nicoles performance and this film, this is a total gem! it felt like a roller coaster I got happy and sad and everything in between the performances were great and the ending is beautiful, LOVED the film

Javier's look in this appearance kind of reminds me of how he looked when he portrayed Anton Chigurh. So when he came out happy and dancing, it was like Anton was doing so. 😊
