I saw them open for Aerosmith in 1989 in Germany, and i thought CHRIST!! they are one of the best live bands ive ever seen!! and i had seen lots! Then about 6 months later, while back in the States, I see them again being a Headliner. To this day, one of the best live bands i ever seen.
The Cult my favorite of all-time!! No two album sound the same but they're all Kick-Ass! Totally no bulshit rock They don't follow commercial crap or play that game they're true rock and rollers you just don't see that too often, I'm 56 years old and I've seen them 17 times in my life and one thing I tell myself every time I see them is damn Ian astbury always has kick ass hair!!😅
Chris Cornell and Ian Astbury were both genetically engineered to be the perfect hard rock frontmen - their voices, their looks, their stage presence and everything else.
Ahh, the human voice. You can't put on new strings, or new skins or anything new. Only rest and healing can help the tired human voice. As a former rock singer and a huge Cult fan, it kills me to hear Ian have to struggle through these kinds of performances.
One of he problems with The Cult, both today and in those days, is that Astbury plays too much with the "wild teenager rocker" thing and does not take care of himself. or his voice. (Just look at the disciplined regime Mick Jagger puts himself under). Also, there´s and attitude problem with him. Totally different from Billy Duffy´s attitude: he´s always the consummate profesional, always sounding clean, perfect live, and seems like a more approachable character. Sometimes I wonder if he thinks Astbury is a pain in the ass that he has to suffer. I say this because I too am a huge Cult fan. (y)
Surprised to see the Duffer's Harley swastika tee! I know the band had used Iron Crosses in their iconography (as did Lemmy), and that they are fans of the Pistols who rocked the offensive images in the late 70s, but '89 is late in the game for this. Things sure have changed in the last 30 years!
Saw them once in 1987 and once in 1989. Their 1989 performance was disappointing because they were the opening act for Metallica and they only performed behind the curtain for about half an hour.
Billy totally destroys this song. He makes it great. Ian is Ian and perfect or not he always rocks it his own way and brings some crazy energy to a performance. I can dig it, but it's not for everyone.
