These guys act as if Canucks should have had no problem against Nashville. The Preds had the best record in the league next to NYR and Car over the last 3 months.
Nashville is a very hard working team that lacks high end talent (much like the islanders). The issue in the playoffs is that everyone plays hard so that negates that aspect of their game and quite often they will get out skilled. Their 20 game heater or whatever it was is pretty meaningless.
@@cbzblaze2457 Except it's usually the depth guys that come through in the playoffs. The top skill guys offset each other. 3rd and 4th lines and goalies shine.
Some strange comments here lol. This will be a harder series then LA was, but Van isn't the Avs. Oilers A game would win this in 4-5 games. Can Oilers bring their A game? They'd better, because I'm not to sure their B game could win it.
I think they will bring their A game…especially draisaitl …it’s about pride…the canucks beat us 4 times and they think we are going to be push overs…we have a surprise for them!…I pray skinner brings his A game!
They simply cannot expect to win with half hearted effort, believing and expecting "skill" is gonna bring us over the top without working hard. Also, the defense needs to make sure they "stay back", and not allow canuck players to get behind them, especially Nurse and Cece. We simply cannot make bad pinches. If we do pinch we need to make sure it's there, and not gamble!
@@YegRon They have better playoff experience than the oilers do. Who have the oilers beat in the playoffs in the last 4 years? ?The la kings. This year the Canucks beat Nashville, a better team then the oilers down the stretch, and a far better team than LA. In the bubble they knocked out the stanley cup blues.. and then took vegas to game 7. The experience narrative just does not hold up.
Great podcast as always! Such informative and reliable content on the best team in the NHL. However, somebody should have told Kurt to mute his mic when it wasn't his turn. 😆 A bit distracting.
I say don't let QH carry the puck left-right across his o-zone, especially near the blue line. Make him take it lower, where passing lanes should be more clogged, and where he will have more to collide into. He's nimble...just gotta cut his space somewhere.
Nurse’s hockey smarts/awareness doesn’t match his potential raw talent. I agree more with David. Nurse can cost the Oilers a game in the series, highly probable in my opinion!
Canucks have played very well this year. They struggled to put away the preds, but they did it under 7 at least. Its hard to really rank and give Edmonton the credit they're due for the series they had against LA because they've beaten them every time. If Oilers remain healthy and on their game, they can beat everyone. Convincingly.
I heard it said a day ago that Knoblauch’s calmness on the bench has helped the team as a whole to not be chirpy to the refs & veteran presence like Perry has really been beneficial with referee ‘game management’. Seems like this might be true …
It took me a couple minutes to figure out where the beeping was coming from. Sounds just like my washing machine when it’s not draining. Now to rewind and listen to the podcast.
Im not worried about the scoring. We will win the series as long as the Dmen dont have brain cramps, dont make bad punches or have poor coverages. Its gonna come down to.... Deeeefense!.
You guys are the absolute best Oilers podcast out there. I listen to them all and have for years. Thanks guys. You're my high points on Oilers Now and LDWLT. Keep up the great work. Ok, that's enough.
Dave - Bruce....I have been saying....on the pp, instead of "hugging" the goall post all the time, Hyman, once in awhile needs to push off the post, around 10-15 feet or so and one time a pass from Drai . And they did this in the 2nd game of the LA series, with relatively ease I may add...They should do this play abit more often, . If they did, that's one more play in our pp arsenal. Keeps teams off guard, keeps them guessing......Dave tell Connor and Leon that goal looked pretty easy.😉
We can't give up goals and expect to win. Canucks is a young vibrant team. We have to be physical. Zedorov is Canucks version of Chara. Hope for a come back.
Can't really contain Hughes, but channel him towards areas where he can roam less. Maybe cut off his side to side crossing. But it will be like trying to contain McDavid. Should be a good match-up.
At home, I'd like to see: Kane-McD-Drai against the bigger Van dmen Hol'wy-RNH-Hyman against Hughes rounded out by Foeg-Cloud-Perry and the 4th line defensive specialists
Experience isn't everything, but in that department, the Oilers have a huge edge. Don't tell me the Canucks' run to the quarter-finals in 19-20 (and nothing else between 15-16 and now) makes this a bunch of battle-hardened veterans. Since 16-17 to today, Oilers have played 10 series; the Canucks, four. Oil has made the post season in the most recent five years; Canucks are on a string of one.
Cole Myers and Soucy all have lots of playoff experience on the back end. Cole has 2 championships. Myers have over 50 games played. Even Hughes has played in 17 playoff games prior to this season.
@@vikinginsane6770 Fine, I'm not saying they have zero experience. All in the 19-20 run got 17 games of experience that year (Miller, Petterson, Boeser). Allvin's done a good job.
I think the only way they lose is if they sit back and play cautious. They lost that game vs LA the same way they lost the last 2 years. By giving up their own blue line and then not covering the late man in. They basically let the puck carrier walk in, pull up and wait for the trailer who's also left wide open to walk in and shoot.
Just to add on the PP/PK disparity in the Kings series - I disagree with the Oilers being favored. If you look back to the last two series, and even the Colorado and Vegas series, a lot of the Oilers PP was nulified because of retaliatory play. This series the Oilers didn't retialiate, they initiated the play. As for Ryan's hold? Big deal - that happens all the time against us even during reg season when trying to tie the game and its not called the vast majority of the time. I didn't see it as a bias, rather I saw it as being 'fair'. The hold and subsequent hookd on McDavid in game 4 when Doughty did it to negate an odd man rush when it was 1 to 0 was far worse - didn't see any King complaining about that non-call. It's nice to see the 'other' team complain for once and as state, we beat them in 5 including two blow-out wins - Kings are no where near as good as the Oilers and officiating did not decide that series.
You guys had me right up to saying the Oilers were favoured in any way in penalties called. L.A. played quite dirty and was punished accordingly by the officiating. We got less penalties because we played a more disciplined game. End stop.
Mcd and drai are some of the biggest whiners and divers in the league. And Drai is one of the cheapest and dirtiest players in the league. Let alone kane and perry.
The Oilers still scored a lot of goals on Demko. No goalie can steal 4 games. Even the “best” in the league, witness how Helybook couldn’t stop the pook.
On paper these teams are extremely close. I am interested to see the coaching game plans, because I don't think either team wants to let the other play run and gun hockey and trade chances.
Thanks for your video guys but you’re greatly underestimating the Canucks physicality and defensive structure, not to mention the Hughes effect. Doughty is nothing close to Quinn. It’ll be a long, tough series. I also disagree with your take on the pressure. It’s all on the Oilers. Remember, “Cup or bust.”
"oilers are the deeper team" "oilers will win 80-20" "there is not pressure on us" "we have more experience" "they swept us in 4 games this year but that doesn't count!!!!!!" The delusion is STRONG. Canucks were the better team in the league.. and they were the better team head to head. They played and beat the faaaar better team in the 1st round. A team that was as good or better than the oilers through the second half of the season. The Oilers have done NOTHING of significance in any playoffs to be bragging about any kind of experience. Plenty of Canucks players have plenty of playoff and big game experience in their careers.
They were extremely close, with oilers coming out better in every category other than 1 less win and considering their horrendous start that's saying a lot.
Lol relax. This is how you can tell Canucks haven't been in the playoffs for awhile they're overly concerned with Van being "respected" or with predictions on who's going to win. It doesn't matter at all, would you have preferred if they came out and said exactly what you wrote? The winner will be determined on the ice, being favored will not help either team.
Canucks defensive depth is definitely better IMO. Soucy/Myers and Cole/Zadorov over the oilers 2/3 all day. I'd also take the Canucks 3rd line over the oilers. But top 6, big advantage Oilers.
I think Kurt is stoned talking about Nurse. Why gamble on some neutral zone play in a 1-1 game when you can just play low risk hockey and the goal just doesn't happen. Making the Mouse Trap Machine that much more complex where Nurse pinches and has to rely on some perfect psychic read of McLeod being back to defend (yeah, everyone loves a forward back as your last line of defense)... for what? To prevent one zone entry? Pinching in the neutral zone has trolled this team multiple times (one game ended in OT from Ceci pinching where the Oilers had 5 people in the N zone and the Kings had 3... one of them not even being to the red line yet)... What's the point of pinching there in OT? In video game terms - that almost every kid knows now - they are "INTING" - "intentionally feeding," a term used to describe a player repeatedly dying to the enemy team or [here's the important part] player with the purpose of making the enemy team/player stronger or otherwise leaving them in an advantageous position.
He's not stoned, get over yourself. He disagreed on Dave's assessment of that particular play against LA, he not exactly wrong. I think his larger point is that wanting Nurse to sit back and be overly cautious neutralizes his biggest asset. Bringing up Lindstrom as a comp by Dave is ridiculous but I get his point to. Some oilers fans have a very distorted view of Nurse and hyper-focus on every "mistake" he makes.😮
The Oilers need to get to JT Miller first and foremost, he’s the real leader and antagonist of that team! He’s their only 100 pt scorer, as he goes.. they go! Contain him and Hughes and get to Silvos early, it’s over!
The canucks have a very good third and fourth line but so have the oilers …I think goaltending will be the difference….they have Silvos but he wasn’t really tested much by the preds…the preds are a defensive oriented team and their offense is not as good as the oilers…
The only way Vancouver wins this is if they have a massive dose of lady luck again! They wouldn't have got out of round one without the good fortune and bounces they had, they certainly didn't outplay the Predators.
very good discussion - thanks. VANC did outscore the OIL 21-7 I believe and 4 games to 0.... but EDM ill most likely win this series. EDM did get incredibly great calls vs LA which LA should officially complain about. years so unusual - only time this has happened for a cdn team in ~ 10years - but likely so they can do some really bad calls against when they face a US team in later stage. REFs in nhl should NOT be stepping in to decide series the way they do now, but they feel very impt.
No matter the talking head, it is a forgone comclusion the oilers will win....this is what upsets are made of. Reminds me of Canucks and LA in the first round of 2012 when the Canucks won the President's trophy and LA won in 5 and ....the cup.
Everytime you hit hughes. Zedorov. Cole and joshua are gonna hit mcdavid twice. We have him in a scope Better double up on those knee and elbow pads. Cuz hes gonna get THRASHED
I look forward to seeing 3 old men cry when their beloved Oilers loose in 5. Yeah, the regular season & the playoffs aren't the same however I think it will rhyme.
Whats the point in drawing analogies to past years and different players? Hills play last year will have no bearing on this series so why even bring it up? Not saying the rookie can't play well he likely will, but that will be determined on the ice.
80 / 20 I only made it to there. Then I realized what the hell I was listening to. garbage by three RU-vidrs. only give Vancouver a 20% chance complete garbage.
Oilers fans are trolls best defense yah right over vancouver no way they got easy kings we don't need F McDavid without McDavid they sucks only have 97 29 93
The only thing you got right in that gibber jabber, was the capital on the Oilers and the small v on vancouver. Can't imagine what it looked like before You edit it.😅
The easy Kings? They're a way better team than the Preds. I legitimately thought the Preds were a lotto team until I saw they were playing Van lol. But maybe that's because I only see them vs the Oilers and the Oilers have destroyed them for like 4+ years. Draisaitl has 33 points in his last 12 games vs them idk how Van struggled so much. Hopefully for your guys' sake your stars wake up. Van is a good team that should have swept the Preds
