With the 2024 NHL Playoffs only a couple of weeks away, Luca, Corwin, Jesse, and Poc sat down to rank their top 25 playoff players. Check out the latest BarDown Podcast to see who cracks each of their lists! (Filmed on April 03, 2024)
@@moffsauce3012 I think that’s fine if you do it as a rule. Doing top 25 players with no goalies makes sense as it’s hard to differentiate. He’s doing it differently, not saying that no goalies deserve to be top 25.
@@nijaethompson7647 Nobody means dog in a literal sense when they say that. It's a euphemism for showing up in the playoffs when the pressure is highest.
Dude Draisitil had 32 in 16games WITH ONE FOOT. He should be top 3-5 on every list. Edit: on a playoff list I would put Draisitil above McDavid, so far.
@33RoyCorpPor Cheers brother! Also life time Avs fan. Yo for real! He had what 4 or 5 points in that crazy 8-7 game? And he could barely stand, let alone skate. I think he almost averaged 3pts a game in a series EDM got swept in.
A stat that isn't talked about enough is that draisaitl is 3rd all time in playoff P/GP, with mcdavid, mackinnon, and rantanen all up there too. I dont get why people hate Jesse so much, I consistently agree with most of the things he says
@@mcj44 32 points in 16 games 2 years ago, 13 goals in 12 games last year... these are historic offensive performances and yet we always hear about Matthews being this great goalscorer and being above him but when it counts his goalscoring struggles to approach even just 0.5 GPG. Draisaitl actually gets his done, every time. It's not even comparable.
Jesse is on a heater with his takes in this vid Draisaitl was way too low on everyones list Matthews too high. Regular season stats mean nothing, playoffs is a different beast. Really surprised Guentzel isnt on anyones list though I know he played with Crosby but hes a gamer in the playoffs saved a lot of playoff pools for me over the years
How can you not have Bob on the list? Dudes been part of the 2 biggest upsets in NHL history in the span of like 4 years. Columbus-Tampa and Panthers-Bruins
The fact that Roope Hintz and Thomas Harley aren't here shows the Dallas disrespect. 2 of the best playoff players last year and Roope is still one of the best forwards just not scoring as much
I'm not expecting hockey fans, commentators or youtubers to get the names of so many players right. But here's an easy way to remember one: it's not "hi-skanen" it's "hey-skanen".
Josi over Fox is crazy. Fox averages over a point per game in the playoffs, Josi averages half that. Adam Fox is much better at defense as well. Really doesn't make sense
Vassy at 23 is an awful take. 3 cups, his record in clinching games and after a loss are phenomenal. Hes 29 and has more playoff wins than Dominik Hasek. Theres no other goalie of his generation thats anywhere close to him in playoff wins
@warshawgameshd3432 Bobrovskys regular season last year was bad (3.01 GAA, .901) and he had been a big reason why they made it to the final. You can't count out goalies that have been top tier historically
He's also had a legendary team. For example, if Carey Price was on Tampa, he would also win probably even more cups. Remember that Price has only played with an 82+ point score ONCE in his entire career. Not one superstar
@warshawgameshd3432 I mean, if you don't have any stars on your team yet, obviously you want that caliber before you add Lehkonens. And Robertson hasn't got many seasons under his belt. But Robertson and Aho haven't busted series wide open or gone to a cup final at all, let alone by dragging their teams in by their own heroics. So yeah, I would rather have Lehkonen than half of the guys on these lists. He got the fucking CANADIENS to the cup final with several game tying, game winning and series winning goals. He only had 3 goals and they were all huge goals. He won a cup THE NEXT YEAR and again had several game tying, game winning and series winning goals. And now that he's on a real team, he's a PPG player in the playoffs, close to PPG in the season, and his goals are scored in big moments. There's guys throughout NHL history that you need on your team to make a final or win a cup. Fernando Pisani, Jared Stoll, Claude Lemieux, Martin Gelinas, Jiri Leitehen, Arturri Lekhonen, Dave Bolland, Anton Vermette, Justin Williams, Brendand Saad, Goodrow, Palat, etc. They end up being more important than much better players when it counts. They're bottom/mid 6 all season and turn into absolute heroes in the playoffs. You need em. I'd drop any Leaf except Matthews to fit 2-3 of those types on Toronto's roster. I'd rather have Carter Verhagee and Artturi Lehkonen on my team, in the playoffs, than a large number of the league's stars.
What else does Dallas have to do to get some recognition? Hintz led last years playoffs in points. Heiskanen is a proven beast in the playoffs. Hell, Pavs has scored more playoff goals than Ovi and Sid. The stars continue to be overlooked
the jake guentzel disrespect is insaaane he's literally 11th in points per game in the playoffs among active players (and is exactly a point per game) and THIRD for goals per game among active players. one of the best playoff performers of all time
There’s no question that you’d rather have Alex Pietrangelo than Adam Fox in the playoffs. The Blues don’t win the cup in 2019 without Pietrangelo and neither does VGK in 2023. He is a Pronger-like series-altering difference maker whereas Fox is branded as an offensive Dman and quarterback where the entire Rangers offense somehow fizzles when the Devils put Akira Schmid in net, who didn’t “goalie” anybody else. It is insane that happened to a Rangers team that was up 2-0, and sure you can blame Panarin and Zibanejad, but Adam Fox is as responsible for failing to do what he was expected to do and underperforming at the time he was supposed to play his best hockey. Why is there room on this list for any Leafs when they’ve gone 1-7 in series in the Matthews era? To me this is a list about which players get you playoff series wins above replacement and there isn’t a Leafs player who’s earned our trust in that regard, including Matthews who takes more money than anyone else to consistently lose in the playoffs. Winning the Conn Smythe means Marchessault was the best player in the playoffs last year. He was #1. He was +17 to McDavid’s -1, why then is McDavid so ubiquitously the guy you’d most want in the playoffs? Point-per-game stats typically win you individual awards including the Hart and the Norris, they also typically are what get players paid the biggest salaries, and then it’s those biggest salaries that prevent their teams from acquiring key depth players, defensive players and tough players that always seem so pivotal to deep runs. I wouldn’t expect Zach Hyman to enjoy the same freedom of crease benefits in the playoffs that he’s had and he’s a guy who tends to regress in the playoffs too. He was on the Leafs for plenty of those years they lost in the first round. He may have playoffs written all over him, but the playoffs are when he tends to run out of gas and get cross checked into submission. Don’t just pick the players at the top of the regular season scoring stats, pick the guys you think will win their teams playoff games they otherwise wouldn’t, the guys who you think might win a Conn Smythe. Then if they do, you end up looking really good for having them. Roope Hintz isn’t on anyone’s list, he had an incredible playoff last year. 6 more points than any other Dallas Star, he’s also a markedly better 2-way player than JRob. All that said, here’s what my list would be: 25. Sean Couturier 24. Drew Doughty 23. Ryan O’Reilly 22. Anze Kopitar 21. Thatcher Demko 20. Igor Shesterkin 19. Victor Hedman 18. Jaccob Slavin 17. Alex Pietrangelo 16. David Pastrnak 15. Nikita Kucherov 14. Leon Draisaitl 13. J.T. Miller 12. Connor McDavid 11. Roope Hintz 10. Connor Hellebuyck 9. Mikko Rantanen 8. Jonathan Marchessault 7. Sergei Bobrovsky 6. Miro Heiskanen 5. Nathan Mackinnon 4. Jack Eichel 3. Sebastian Aho 2. Cale Makar 1. Matthew Tkachuk
This is an acceptable list! Miro and Roope are so underrated. I feel like Wyatt may be more important this year in the playoffs based on his line this year
Rangers didn't get goalied at all, they were taking the easiest shots ever. They just couldn't figure out the Devils neutral zone trap, and had trouble building momentum. You are completely insane for just referencing that one playoff round when that was clearly on the coaching than anything, the team itself had the skill just not the mindset. The games they did have the right mindset they completely destroyed the Devils, and Akira Schmid as well in game 6. 2022 was a much greater example of how Adam Fox can perform in the playoffs, and same with Panarin as well.
I think you guys should try making your dream playoff lineups 4 f lines 3 d lines 2 goalies. That would have so much variance based on how you guys want to have your hockey played.
Bardown should lead the way on ALL hockey content. Let me fall in love with a local sledge hockey team iv never heard of before. I could see Bardown being its own TV channel with hockey 24/7. PS a YT channel with 24/7 "live" footage of diffrent hockey across he world would be an absolute banger to start.
Shoulda waited a DAY - so you can mention SIDNEY CROSBY … idk maybe he’s mentioned I’m posting this a couple minutes in - just watched the Pens momentarily get a playoff spot for a day …
You guys all had a lot of respect for Marchand which is fair given his long track record in the playoffs. In the same vein I would have also considered Pavelski. Also release the full Pet conversation
45:39 Ovi was a beast in the playoffs, the caps were just chokers. He had 21 points in 14 games in 2009. Matthews best playoffs performance was 9 points in 7 games in 2022. 44 points in 50 playoffs games are not superstar numbers at all.
loved listening to all of your guys takes on your top 25 playoff players right. This would be my list 1.Connor McDavid 2.Cale Makar 3.Nathan Mackinnon 4.Nikita Kucherov 5.Adam Fox 6.Mikko Ratanen 7. Austin Mathews 8.David Pastrnak 9.Leon Draisitl 10. Artemi Panarin 11.Victor Hedman 12.Connor Hellebuyck 13.Brayden Point 14. Jason Robertson 15.Alexander Barkov 16. Kevin Fiala 17.Adrian Kempe 18.Elias Petterson 19.Anze Kopitar 20.Sabastian Aho 21.Quinn Hughes 22.Drew Doughty 23.Mathew Tkachuck 24.J.T. Miller 25. Sam Reinhart
out of all the Canucks to include, leaving out Mr 50 saves, game 5, elimination game himself Thatcher "the snatcher" Demko didn't get a single nod is criminal also, robbed of the Vezina because of a late injury
I’m with poc 100000% 😂. Kreider running into Carey Price was heartbreaking for them & their fans. Even I feel sympathy. Jesse is so right about Marner being 16 is toooo high. & everyone is too high on the leafs.
Fox is top 15 player in the league. Easy. People always knock him down because of his size. But he’s probably the highest IQ defensemen in the league. He’s had 79 points this season after missing 10 games. That is just wild for a defensemen let alone to do it consistently. He’s still elevating every year.
Roman Josi right now top 10. Absolutely my favorite player in NHL. Chicago are 8th in centimeters and 21th place in kilos in NHL. Size don't matter if you never use them. They drafted some big guys lately
1:08:51 Expanding to include cat breeds and other small animals and limiting total to 15 because i don't know enough about enough dog breeds to fairly rank more than 15 animals, let alone 25 dog breeds 1. Orange Tabby 2. Black American Shorthair 3. Maine Coon 4. Tuxedo Cat 5. Corgi 6. Beagle 7. Husky 8. Golden Retriever 9. Guinea Pig 10. Ferret 11. Rabbit 12. Hamster 13. Mouse 14. Gerbil 15. Chinchilla
Just the fact that you are discussing "At what point does Matthews have to show it in the playoffs?" while you all already have him ranked in your top ten PLAYOFF PERFORMERS is all the proof needed that this is not a playoff performer list...I don't know what the list actually is- but it is not what you claim it to be.
Kreider I think will be dog in the playoffs this year. He’s quietly having a nearly 40 goal season and has really shown up as of late. Such an important player on the PP and PK and was the only forward that showed up for us last year in that atrocious series. The production from that first line of Zibanejad Kreider and Roslovic is gonna be the determining in the playoffs I feel.
Tkachuk is a difficult one. Last year was as dominant as I’ve seen a guy be in a long time, but before that he was INVISIBLE on the Flames. As an Oilers fan, that BoA series I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. No rat behaviour at all, he was completely irrelevant. Florida Tkachuk last year was top tier no doubt though, so we just have to see if that happens again
How on earth do none of y'all have Joe Pavelski on any of your lists? Dude has more playoff goals then any active player in the NHL! T-13 all time in playoff goals, 6 away from 10th.
While I do agree joes a beast his playoff stats aren’t crazy less then a ppg also he’s been in the league so long they were probably looking at stats from the last 3-5 seasons
