OMG! One of the best concerts of my life! I was right in front for a while but then almost fainted from all the people pushing trying to be in front when Love & Rockets went on. My friend grabbed me and I ended up a few rows back. I can still see Daniel falling to the ground playing his harmonica. What a amazing lineup! The friggin' Pixies, Love & Rockets, & The Cure! I will never forget that night...I never wanted it to end. Thank you so much for posting this. Brought back so many memories....
I was opposite of you, at the furthest back and the toppest of the top, dancing non stop the whole show.. Only those who were there with us know how great it really was.. and the vid brings it back.
I was there. My cousin picked me up from school and I ditched school and drove all morning from Phoenix to LA and this intro was all worth it. It was total Bliss for a 17 year old. This song still gets me today. 😌🙏🌷🌵🍓🌗
I am so lucky that my first Cure show was a Prayer Tour one !! 6th of may 1989 in the Netherlands. This is the second best opening of any cure tour. I think The Kiss was the most epic one !!
wow this is so cool to see! Wish there was more footage. This must have been the first concert I ever went to when I was 11 years old. Will never forget how epic the intro was with Plainsong. Dudes sitting in front of us sparked one up when the Cure came on. Remember thinking, so thats what pot smells like. hehe
I was there at Lodge level between Home Plate and 1st base up near by the snack bar when it was well lighted. But damn that was my first Cure concert and hell of a line up to OMG what a night that was and I was 19 just graduated from UNI High School of Irvine!
Recuerdo q un primo me invitó a ir a este concierto pero yo le dije q no q mejor fueramos a Disney,yo no era de LA. Vivia en toledo , España,pero ahora digo rayos por q no aproveche
I was there some where up in middle level it was packed, foodfights , people here and there jumping on stage to get to Robert lol but other than that it was a blast !!!!! The best concert 1989
Thanks thecurepl for posting! This video brought back a flood of memories from that night. Can't believe it was 23 years ago this Sept. The other bands were awesome but The Cure rocked the stadium. It was like Halloween in the stands. So many people were decked out in black and leather. It was THE place to be. LA was the best place for so many concerts. Bands really get up for the LA gigs. Cheers to all who were there!!
first ever concert I paid for. After all these years, still the best money I ever spent to this day! Incredible show ! I still have the shirt .....................................
1989!!! Omg!! I got tears of joy when they started this song!! This is the only video from this show I have ever seen!! I recognize it from an unauthorized documentery!!
This was an awesome concert. Mr friends and I decided to go at the last minute so all we got were bleacher tickets. Even though we were all the way up in the bleachers, we had a great time. I still remember the bass vibrating the bleachers.
i was there too! i remember the people throwing their drinks down on the lower people. luckly we were able to move down to the grass near the front. The line up was Shelly Ann Orphan, Pixies, Love and Rockets and of course The Cure. One of the best free shows i been to. We spent most of the time in the Love and Rockets tent. Got to see Daniel Ash's silver guitar up close...like 2 inches close. Never could make it into The Cures Tent. you know...Staff Pro and all. Nice memories.
Amazing! I was there -a teenager at the time and a die-hard fan. I also remember those bells :) Thank you for this incredible memory from one of the best concerts and most beloved bands ever!!! They are coming back to LA next month and if for some reason I miss out it won't matter because Dodger Stadium 1989 can't be topped!
I was there as...about three rows from the front of the floor when chaos hit and everyone flooded forward and my friend and I were kicked out of the section (we didn't have the wristbands necessary to be that close. We were actually in the section of the floor behind the first section)
we were at the edge of the first level, and for like forty-five minutes, it rained toilet paper, food, drinks, bottles and paper products on us from above. still one of the best times i ever had. i saw them last tim round at the hollywood bowl from great seats, and it just wasn't the same. great, but just not the same.
Friday, September 8, 1989. Oren & I went to this " Prayer Tour" show. A few friends of Oren's were there as well with us. The sound system mostly sucked and we were sitting quite far away from the stage. Other bands that opened for Robert & Co. included Love & Rockets, the Pixies, and Shelly Ane Orphan. I still have the "After Market" unofficial T-shirt we bought during the long wait waiting to get out of the parking lot after the show.
I was at the Depeche Mode show in 88 at the Rose Bowl but that experience for me was more pleasant. I made out with two chicks and other things I cannot mention in here but Dodger stadium was crazy
A.) Dodgers Stadium doesn't hold 75,000 people. Even for a concert. B.) The place looks half empty to me, so even if it did hold that many, there aren't that many there. C.) I saw them 2 week earlier in Massachusetts in front of 20,000 screaming fans.....greatest concert I've ever been too.
You sound like a hater. It was sold out and I can guarantee you it was better than the mAssachusetts show. Did you say 2K? Hahaha ha!! What a joke. Los Angeles crowd is always superior for Cure shows. And that’s coming from Mr. Smith. Especially for this show, he’s been on record saying it was the highlight of this tour. So your personal feelings don’t matter. All of us that were there, knew the magic of that night, including Mr. Smith. So fu@k you and your sh!tty weather mASSachusetts. We’re always happy our here in beautiful, sunny Southern California. So FU@K YOU HATER!!!! Hahahahaha nah!!
I was 15 my brother and cousin both were 13. We walked to the stadium from our home in Echo Park. It was the perfect concert the light, the sound, the view, the people, the energy. It was magical. Oh a few days later, I also saw depeche mode at Dodger stadium.
