This is true unplugged. I was watching Metallica and I’m like wait, what? They plugged in. The cure are the shit and true to their artistry. I dig this totally.
I think the wonder of Robert Smith is that even now (2020) at age 60, he has that sweet darlingness of a six year old boy! He has never lost that childlike quality, no matter what kind of wild younger days he lived. In this version of Caterpillar it is there. SO adorable.
After my wife gave birth to my daughter and I was kicked out of the hospital due to visiting hours were over. I was so wound up I popped the tv on and I caught a cure live show , I watched it while making flautas for my wife for the next day. I remember saying “ Who are these guys? They are great! The musicianship was stellar. I was a 70 s rocker then and had givin up on rock till I saw these guys.
Such a genius show: Having to play unplugged really separates the truly skilled bands from the mere musical acts. Here, The Cure prove that they handle a wide variety of rhythms, harmonies and styles. The layering is obvious in the number of different instruments (and musicians) it takes to build their sound, and yet here they are doing it.
The thing is that in pure pop terms Boy's don't Cry is actually better and Push is possibly the best pop song ever. How did a goth band that wrote the masterpiece album Pornography come to write such perfect pop.
@@jonw9417 they're not only a goth band, they're a real rockband...a song like "why can't I be you" is rock not goth or dark pop...i agree with you, Boys don't cry is a great song, but for me the best one will be always Just Like Heaven
i remember i was so deeply into the Cure..i live on an island and was going to college at 17, and my mom would never let me go off with just friends until that summer of 1987! i got to see the "Kiss Me X3" show. it was..just like heaven!
@@lexilongbottoms3812 yeah i 100% agree.. unplugged is phenomenal, i just meant that the broadcast could be remastered for a louder clearer sound.. the versions here are phenomenal and I remember the original broadcast as a personal highlight of mtv unplugged. Peace 🤟😎
This was so memorable. They really committed to the unplugged concept unlike a lot of later bands that cheated. Even Nirvana's beloved unplugged had a lot of cheating as far as acoustic vs. electric. Using the kid toy piano, etc...was so brilliant. So "Cure."
This has been shortened! Used to be a lot longer. It been picked apart. Not initially happy about it, but it’s been edited. Sorry to burst hyper bubble…
Robert Smith actually looks sober and genuinely happy. In early videos, especially with the Banshees, he basically just refused to pretend to play for the camera. Must have driven Souixsie a bit mad. Anyways, Robert seemed to really enjoy this format. It is honest and a wee bit silly... no one really expects perfection, so less pressure I guess. The rest of the Cure are all excellent musicians too, so at minimum this gave them a chance to show off a bit.
Wahnsinn! 👍🏽
Show me, show me, show me how you do that trick The one that makes me scream, " she said "The one that makes me laugh, " she said And threw her arms around my neck "Show me how you do it, and I promise you I promise that I'll run away with you I'll run away with you" Spinning on that dizzy edge I kissed her face and kissed her head And dreamed of all the different ways I had to make her glow "Why are you so far away?" she said "Why won't you ever know that I'm in love with you? That I'm in love with you?" You Soft and only You Lost and lonely You Strange as angels Dancing in the deepest oceans Twisting in the water You're just like a dream Just like a dream Daylight licked me into shape I must have been asleep for days And moving lips to breathe her name I opened up my eyes And found myself alone Alone Alone above a raging sea That stole the only girl I loved And drowned her deep inside of me You Soft and only You Lost and lonely You Just like heaven
I just started university during this era. I regret not seeing them live then. This was filmed in London before I moved to the UK. Surprisingly this is the first time I'm watching this masterpiece.
This is the mtv version, the cure had their own sound engineering team that day and that purer version of this epic recording is in the possession of a certain Mr. Robert Smith...
@Juan Ermeni ...amazing song!! Do you have any idea on how I can find "The Blood" because I'm going crazy trying to find it??...I'm a studio musician and some of the people I work with have no idea how to find it as well...smh...ty in advance if you can find it...☝️💜
I think they may be laughing at themselves. This is probably the first time they ever performed unplugged like this and they're probably just having fun with it. It is pretty fun to watch.
@@JaneFrizzell I second that notion...the whole show is amazing!!...smfh...everything isn't for everyone, I guess??...still as relevant today as it was then...can't deny that...☝️💜
Does ANYONE know how to get "The Blood" ??...I can't find it ANYWHERE and I would be extremely thankful to the person who can find it for me...ty in advance ☝️💜
