today we cover the magical world of "consistency" and all the complexities that come with trying to grapple with all the billions of reasons i play like hot trash in bracket
if you didn't notice, i went on a casey neistat binge recently and was inspired to try to emulate parts of his style, albeit i have a long ways to go 8(

btw if you are at all curious, i got most of these angles by holding the camera between my chest and chin -- it took a dumb amount of practice x__x

Maybe you could hold it on your chin with a headband?

feeling this big time in chess over the past couple months. progress is non-linear, and I enjoyed the way you visualized that in your drawings here. good stuff dude.

Love this video and I think it promotes a healthy mindset, but I feel like sometimes its important to just realize our opponent is good too. Getting mad at yourself for not playing good is super fun and healthy (its not, this is sarcasm), but your opponent could just be doing really well that day, and our brains can't accept the fact that someone can be better than us in a video game. Saying that you're playing bad could be true, but if you're getting rolled by your opponent and not giving them any credit, maybe try to credit them; they're probably grinding everyday just like you.

@SSB_Seal 3 года назад
Yeah no matter how bad I think I played, I'd practically never say it to my opponent unless they are a friend that I know wouldn't take it as diminishing their win. Just one of the many thoughts you should nearly always keep to yourself after a loss.
@DarwinDing

100000% agreed -- i didn't even think to put something like that in there, but that is absolutely a huge part of tournament mentality. that's a great point!! i feel like giving due respect to our opponents (or not even thinking in terms of good/bad, because i heard once you get 'good enough' and people start giving you so much respect you can actually expect ppl to start choking vs you LOL)

This channel is wildly underrated and is revealing so much of perception and mindset with competition as a whole here. Thank you

0:10 I can’t be the only person who thinks most people off the street probably would just draw a singular diagonal line going off up and right? This multi-step slope almost strikes me as an experienced-competitor kind of take on it: someone who understands that competitors don’t always feel like they’re on an upwards slope.

Love this. I watched Mango kick Ludwig's arse with Bowser a few days ago but Ludwig was consistently pulling off some fox tech that Mango just can't do, despite being demonstrably better with fox.

its def hard to break out of the monolithic thinking of our play when the scene encourages us to compare ourselves to others constantly... there should be a place for placements and the 'sports fanatic' side (i do love gambling channel points) but its really unproductive for people actively trying to work on their skills. there was a period of time in NE when results from every local were being posted on our big FB page and i think a lot of us recognize it wasnt a good idea in hindsight (not to anyones fault, i think we all thought it'd be a good idea). def put a microscope on people's shortcomings, and a lot of comments about devaluing wins/loses due to circumstances outside the game started emerging. people stopped attending because it became a bad environment to work on your gameplay while also being devalued even if you had a good performance. that being said, the present scene seems to be correcting a lot of those mistakes i guess what im tryna say is that its much easier to hold an L & move on with an improvement mindset when you're not constantly reminded of the L, whether it be on a fb page, twitter or by yourself ruminating on it. i could keep typing but maybe for another day lol
