The Current State of Pokémon XY's GTS (it's bad)

It's even worse with Pokemon Sun and Moon where if you try and view a hacked Pokemon, it completely freezes your game and have to force shut off your 3DS

Those MFs have ruined the GTS for at least 5 years

Imagine being the mc and the GTS is a physical place you can go to, you go in there and just see a horde of faceless monsters that are spouting slurs. That’d be horrifying.

hopefully the future fanmade servers will be moderated in order to prevent this

I remember GTS Giveaways on the GTS, I have so many fond memories of this, just because it gave me access to pokemon ive never used before, and shinies. I feel like sometimes I would "steal" someones free trade on accident "shiny kyogre for a bellsprout? WHAT A BARGAIN"

Going to the GTS and then seeing a pokemon have "quit the GTS" as the wanted gender and level has to be the most frighting thing ever, sounds like something from a creepypasta

At least Gen 6 GTS is still "functional". In Gen 7 your game freezes just by looking at something :/

Even though the GTS was far from perfect it's still upsetting to see it end in this state.

This is the same for Ultra Sun & Moon but worse, The GTS is completely skewered - if you say search for a Pokemon that is last than 1-10 level or say 90-100 on level - especially legendaries, you will get a result of some odd profiles that completely freezing your game and forces you to do a manual reset. So far there is 3 of these hackers that has been doing this for a very long time now. And if you look this up, you will find a lot of threads from past year about it. And the most outrageous about this is there has not been a fix of this. I am very angry and frustrated about this, cause i just want to complete the Dex on the old games, guess i have to get the version of the game or something to tackle it. I think many of us have to create a dedicated and safe way of trading pokemons in the older gen while its available. Be happy to help out if people need with any trade, got pokemon x, alpha sapphire, Moon and Ultra Sun.

It's actually really weird because if you *look* at the GTS, it's a mess full of hacked Pokémon and corrupted data entries. But if you decide to not look, and throw something of your own on there that's actually possible to trade, you'll get what you want within a day - within an hour if it's a reasonable trade like counterpart version exclusives. Sure, if you want to avoid obviously-genned Pokémon it's not helpful since a lot of the ones I get are the shinies that advertise genning websites, but if you're just going for completing the dex in a game you already beat, it's not only serviceable but probably the most efficient way. People are saying that Gen 7 has an issue where if you look at a hacked Pokémon your game freezes, which I guess means that no one can trade since the people actually fulfilling the requests are walking on eggshells.

In reality, the GTS has been like this for a very long time now. During the prime of Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, the GTS on pretty much all of the 3DS titles were wastelands of hacked and glitched garbage. I tried to clean up the hacked Pokémon using a software called PKMN-NTR to live inject Pokémon into my save data, so that children playing the games wouldn’t be tricked or have their console freeze up. Fast forward to today, I still have a backup copy of my Ultra Sun save data that has boxes filled to the brim with level 6 shiny Giratina with no names, level 10 Xerneas with offensive slurs as names, and so on.

I loved gts back when it was not like this. I remember when i played alpha sapphire at the first time. Gts were awesome. 😊

When wonder trading in ORAS, you often see a gift icon instead of one of the trainer icons

5:38 Event Legendaries (or Mythicals as you said) and other event pokemon have never been able to be traded through GTS, despite being listed as searchable options. So all those Jirachi are illegitimate.

The GTS: An absolute ****show with blatant glitches, hacked Pokemon, and offensive names. TPCi: Let's block legitimate Shiny Jirachi from the Wishmaker Bonus Disc from being imported into Pokemon Bank. TPCi Games: Releasing unfinished games in a glitchy and poor performing state. TPCi: Let's release a DLC (that ends up being unfinished, glitchy, and poor performing) What an utter mess, that is absurd. Thank you for sharing. It's so frustrating how GameFreak basically decided to get rid of the GTS instead of actively banning these users and coming up with ways to fix this problem. A couple years ago I was trying to complete the Dex on Y and Alpha Sapphire but I kind of gave up after I kept receiving hacked mons whenever I requested something. I was a bit scared that eventually I'd get something that would completely destroy my game. Is there any place/community where we can still set up 1:1 trades to complete our Gen6 Dexes? I'd really love to actually finish everything and get the Shiny Charm, but I won't be touching that hellhole of a GTS anymore.

Glad that you mentioned the feeze part, I was going through Gen7 GTS last week and almost every pokemon I searched caused my system to freeze. It was so annoying. Also if you try to trade those Pokemon with the "Gender Back" or "Gender QUit the GTS" you will find out can't actually do that, because you don't have a Pokemon with those genders. SO those entries are just stuck there forever, which is quite stupid.

Pokemon XY was my very first Pokemon game. I LOVED the online features, and it kept me playing for years. It's so sad to see the servers in this state, but I'll ALWAYS cherish the memories.

The GTS was mostly just used for completing the Pokedex and getting a foreign ditto anyway, sometimes people would practically give away shinies or legendaries but you were always skeptical if they were hacked or not. GTS will be missed but honestly it became apparent at one point that wondertrade was always better, if you didn't have people just putting in route 1 Pokemon it would be perfect.

In 2021, I got on the GTS for the first time on Omega Ruby for some of the trade evolutions like Alakazam. It worked out fine. If you're looking for realistic options like those, the GTS is fine but if you're looking for a Shiny Mew, its going to come at a cost.

Nintendo seriously should keep their older servers open, they should know many people wanna go back on their wii or wii u or 3DS to play online with each other.

Bro its not only in X,Y this problem is happening in ALL mainline 3ds pokemon games and has been like this for some years now, for example back when Sword/Shield released this problem was already happening in the GTS of pokemon USUM. Its sad to see the GTS in this state :/

I actually just restarted X a few months back and used the GTS for the first time, and immediately got what I wanted… but shiny. I figured I would put a Clauncher up so I can get a Skrelp and someone (in France) decided to gift me a shiny Skrelp that was caught and I absolutely adore him. I’m gonna have to use the GTS more before I never get the chance to on all DS games now, it’s really depressing that they’re gonna be shut down soon :( Also I have my Twitter on my bio for X but all I do is post art (that’s if I even post at all, I post on twitter once every 5 months at this point). I 100% know people won’t see it, but oh well UPDATE: I just checked the GTS for Druddigon (the best Pokémon) and man it sure does seem like FunkyGamer26 has a lot of free time to shiny hunt 100+ Druddigon all at lvl 100, all with Leftovers, and only wants a Zigzagoon for all of them. Jokes aside, that is quite insane. I’m currently like 6 pages in and it’s still the same guy. If Druddigon is this bad, then all Pokémon have to be. NAHH HE GAVE ZOROARKS MASTER BALLS TO HOLD

GTS was always packed with crazy stuff. Seems worse now. But if they just made it where you can put your pokemon up for like a week before it gets removed, that would be better. This way people cant stuff it with crappy trades. Like a nidorino for a jirachi or something. Also, all these hacked ones would come down eventually.

I am disappointed about this. These pokemon games should be updated to solve this problem.

I got a legitimate Shiny Yvetal in my Alpha Sapphire and all they were asking for was a pretty common Pokémon (forgot what it was.) But yeah, the Gen 6 GTS is done for. I'm SO SICK of seeing these hacked Pokémon all over the GTS, I'm starting to think that I'll never get a Wooper or Quagsire to breed -_- Edit: Another great trade that I got from the GTS was when I put in a Thundurus (one I got from Wonder Trade or GTS, I don't remember) and asked for a Groudon. I ended up getting an event Groudon from HGSS, I know because it was in a normal Pokeball, that and it said 'it seemed to have traveled across space and time to reach you from the Johto region', pretty cool :D Edit 2: I also got a legitimate Shiny Rayquaza. I think it was an Event Rayquaza because it knew V-create.

Gamefreak didn’t even have the decency to fix issues in PLA like the shiny giratina crashing the game. No way they would address this, and now that the servers are offline, even more so

There seems to be one hero called deadcns who will usually trade you the Pokemon when you deposit.

Good lord. I was a teenager when XY came out. It felt so fresh. Yeah there were some nonsensw but this is on another level

It’s crazy because surprise trade still has this problem in scarlet and violet.

Unfortunately, this is how it was when I got the game back in 2019, so I'm just used to it. Even then, there used to be a lot more legit Pokémon, but since there are newer games on the switch now, everyone has pretty much left. If you do want to try getting one of those hacked trades to work just know that it'll never work if the gender or level wanted are the button options. Your only hope is if both say "Any". It's sad that this is how it is, but that's life I guess.

It’s been like this for a few years now unfortunately. I remember actually going to one of the channels which ended up with me joining a discord. They weren’t bad people by any means but the main guy was selling hacked in shiny dexes for sun and moon. Unfortunately I bought one and never received my shiny dex or money back. Worse part is he traded me the first 30 or so Pokémon so I didn’t mind trading my legendaries and shiny Pokémon I already had. So now I’d either have to restart my save losing any of the Pokémon I had left just to get my region exclusives back or stop playing Pokémon sun. I haven’t played a mainline game since all the new games are too expensive for me to play unfortunately. But yeah the gts people only care about money so beware

At least the Gen 6 GTS is searchable, unlike Gen 7. At least those on the latter's Wonder Trade aren't sending out Yungoos and Gumshoos with THAT nickname

i love oras and xy, sucks that the gts is now corrupted. in usum, your 3ds gets frozen by the sight of a corrupted trainer icon. cant even use the gts in gen 7 😭😭

thank you for bringing awareness to this issue. Once I reached Y in my marathon through the mainline series (since I only beat Heart Gold but have played the other entries) seeing the infestation of clearly hacked Pokemon upset me. I know if I don't put my attention to clearing gen 6 and 7 before the official servers go down I won't be able to use the gts till a community alternative comes through (I know of Pretendo Network but unfortunately it's not publicly ready yet) but hopefully, when it happens we see an end if not a huge decline of hacked trades

If you have PowerSaves you can change the OT to yours and then rename them (I believe it involves turning them into shinies and then back). But then again some would probably say if you have PowerSaves then you wouldn't even need to bother with these trades when you can just mess with the Pokémon yourself for what you want.

It’s sad to see what happened to the GTS here, I had fond memories of breeding Feebas and catching Female Combee and trading them to people in exchange for other Pokémon needed to finish the Dex. As much as I like Wonder Trade, it has a different vibe and even that has hackers on it.

I've completed a live Dex on alpha sapphire and that GTS is a nightmare. Funny enough is no where near as bad as sun and moon. On these, just seeing a hacked Pokémon will freeze your game. And they are all hacked, so the GTS is effectively dead.

the gts was already bad when gen 6 was current 😂 time just made it WAY easier

to be fair it has always been a problem on the GTS especially given the fact what kind of mons they one in return especially if they want a level 1 legendary (which is almost impossible to get) and it kinda sucks how awful it has gotten. I am kinda glad that SWSH and SV don´t have exactly that problem anymore but you could get it perhaps in surprise trades still

Yikes. I've been trying to get into Pokemon Sun, and now I'm worried

I had a lot of hours on ORAS and in Y and i used the GTS a lot and i loved every second of it. I used to bring my 3DS almost everywhere i went and i felt with the 3ds that i could run into someone and have a battle. Conventions such as PAX i truly felt like this was the case. One time while i was at one of the PAX conventions my dad accidentally bumped into me while holding a sparkling water drink without the lid on and it spilled on my 3DS, and eventually i couldn't play on it anymore unless i got a fixed one. Seeing this video years later reminded me of how passionate i was about Pokémon and how much i enjoyed playing the 3DS Pokémon titles and how i coped with my parent's divorce and having to deal with my dad and marrying to a bad woman. I remember seeing these kinds of Pokémon back then and seeing how far more corrupted it is now makes me sad on top of the online servers shutting down makes me really sad. I hope that one day modders will be able to reboot the 3DS online servers so that one day when i am able to fix my 3DS, that i will be able to play on them. Just as how I did as a kid. Kevdog, you deserve my subscription.

This is why i just try to put out pokemon and ask for the ones i need to fill my pokedex in return. I do tend to get hacked shiny versions but i guess thats still fine

im happy someone finally talked about this issue and it just gets worse by the day sadly, also who remembers adventure snivy i feel as if he could still be behind this stuff he did some pretty bad stuff

The GTS was always a mess and still is. Back then people kept asking for Mew and Arceus for stupid Vivillon patterns. People ask for Furfrou trims, which are impossible to trade on GTS. People ask for male/female Ditto, which is impossible without hacking. I speak from experience when I say there is a very special place in hell for the people who requested Mews for Vivillons when I first played Y way back then.

Actually, "Testicle" isn't in the word filter for X and Y, when i was a kid (read: I was 17) i tried nicknaming a Wobbuffet that and it just worked. I guess they must have missed that one

I frequented the Gen 6 GTS back in 2019-2020 from my Old 3DS, and these hacked Pokémon seemingly has been there for a LONG time (I even remember the slurQuazas lol). some of these blank name Pokémon are safe to trade and are usually distributed by RU-vidrs via Wonder Trades in order to promote their channels. I have a box or two of these myself back from the days I was an active pkmn trader. but curiosly, once I was trading in a WT (and not the GTS, which is, as you saw, is far more broken than all the other trading ways), and one of these hacked mons froze my 3DS right in the middle of the trade, I was super scared back then, but now I'm just wondering how they did it in a WT. thank you for the nostalgia blast and an awesome video in general!!

It's HELL in ORAS. Every time I look for something, it's all hacked.

It's so unfortunate it's been in this state since around 2015-2016. Really miss using it for actual trades

I really hated the GTS in Pokemon Sun and Moon. It's Even worse than X and Y. One time I went to search for Lunala, but the game froze and I have no choice to shut off.

You actually cannot trade for any of the Pokémon with odd wants. If the person is asking for a quit the gts level, you do not have what they are looking for. Assuming it’s not a crash

It sucks that they're shutting down the Internet gts, and wonder trade for the pokemon 3ds games! Hopefully you'll still be able to transfer pokemon back in forth to other games without the gts and Internet!😮😢😢

Within the past year I put up a request for an Amaura. Within an hour I received one that was shiny, holding a rare candy, and had been hatched that day. I looked at it and went... yeah....

i was just playing around yesterday with the Gen6&7 GTS and this video just showed up in my recommended videos! But yeah, the state of the GTS is so bad, the second i found those hacked mons, my 3ds froze, I had to restart my console and when I wanted to enter the Plaza in gen 7 i got a ban for a while from GTS...

I used GTS a lot on Moon back in the day to finish the pokedex. I hope we keep the wondertrade system at least, that was always a blast. Though recently I have noticed a lot more shiny hacked pokemon. Also in Scarlet, but I don't really mind keeping those as long as I don't use them

It's best to just deposit a mon with what you're looking for as a trade for it. If you leave it for at least a day the robin hood hacker will have traded you the mon you wanted with it being full IV's and shiny.

Gender: quit the GTS Level: quit the GTS it's a warning. it's telling you to leave before something terrible happens

I was able to get a Zangoose out of the ORAS GTS early this year, I think the main reason is cause I deposited the Seviper for the trade myself. It's actually *searching* for a trade that'll be... problematic. It's really unfortunate that the GTS is like this now, and that we never got the system back in the Switch games. :P

All we can do is wait for a fan server to recreate and moderate a good gts system. Gladly I finished the National Dex in Sun and Moon in 2017.

Same thing still happens in SV too. Just less often. People still put up shiny max IV Pokémon with a name of a website out in the surprise trade.

Even before sun and moon came out, game freek and Nintendo stop caring about the gts, and areound that time there was a #cleanthegts movement that was happening. I think they made the gts have no filter on it because it got past the nickname filter it should be ok, and thos was be Ecause back in black and white certain pokemon cpuld not be traded unless they were nicknamed because thier official name had a bad word in it. What they should of done was keep the gts filter but add a white list for those specific pokemon

Only thing I remember from GTS was people wanting the most absurd trades, like I remember seeing someone who wanted a hoopa in exchange for his weedle.

I'm glad I could still get my hands on the Vivillon from the GTS I couldn't get myself in my European card ridge.

The fact that the GTS network for Gen 4 and 5 is better maintained than Gen 6 and 7 is really telling. In Gen 7 it was bad when it was the current generation too, as many mentioned that hoverong over a hacked Pokemon just freezes your game

Feels like it's been like this for awhile now. I remember the same type of thing happening in the wondertrade. I was trading random pokemon for old times sake, and suddenly some hacked guy with a discord invite pokemon or message shows up. Super sketchy.

Back in the day of x/y i heavily relied on the gts to get just about every single pokemon, filling pc box with all 1-720 pokemon. I tried to do the same thing with moon but few years ago when i was trying, a good chunk of gts trades would just freeze my 3ds, did get a ton of legit trades but it was bad then and seeing the state of it now.. oof a goal like that would be impossible

I grew up without friends that liked pokemon, so I could only trade for first time when the GTS came out in game. I really liked to search for pokemon there, I found it relaxing. Too bad they let it become like this.

I was trying to redo my vivillon collection 3 years ago to have a spare and every single one was a communication error..

even ultra sm gts are freezing when seeking trades, when loading certain trades. I was mostly looking for version exclusive pokemon but that seem impossible now. Now i just wonder trades for luck chance if i can get one

I remember this crappy state from a year ago- looking on the Omega Ruby GTS for a Zekrom, and finding all of them lvl. 100 with ridiculous parameters and some sus nickname. I've since then stopped playing ORAS. It's honestly sad watching this, I remember the GTS during my tweens helping me exponentially with National Dex, back when the 3DS was front and center. Man those were good times.

a little fun fact this has been a problem since the game has released i remember i made a video a good while back when oras came out with the gts and the names people have of there pokemon it was mostly jirachi and mews with the names tho

Some other folks have mentioned it, or it's been mentioned in the video, but still feel like making a comment. A bad thing about these Pokemon with genders like "Quit the GTS" or "Back" is you can't actually trade for them. You will never have a "Quit the GTS" or "Back" gendered Pokemon, so these Pokemon will forever clutter the GTS until the server is shut down next year. It's been like this for years. As you covered, Gen 7's GTS is completely broken and inaccessible without homebrew/modification, at least when looking for Pokemon yourself. This isn't due to the Pokemon however. This is due to the player's icons being corrupted, like briefly mentioned in the mod shown. You can still deposit a common Pokemon (starters, early route mons, various popular ones iirc) and receive a shiny, perfect IV Pokemon in return. This is because there are many bots on the GTS completing trades automatically. At least, this was what was happening the last time I played Ultra Moon to try and do some shiny breeding for team building. I kept getting these shiny Pokemon back in return for the breedjects I listed. This does mean you can still complete the Pokedex in these games, if you don't mind illegitimate shinies populating your Pokedex.

It's too bad. Wonder trade doesn't appear to have this issue though so I've been doing that as much as possible while I can. Apparently there is a project to make a replacement server, idk if it will be only for hacked 3dses. idk if it will have this hacking problem or not, hopefully it will be enough of a niche thing that they won't bother even if it can't be patched

Yeah, the GTS in X and Y is full of hackers these days. Since I own two 3DSs and both X and Y versions, I can trade with myself. Not honorable, but what can you do?
