If chiseling stone weakens it beneath its surface (and in this case, more so than the misguided leather-pounding), then perhaps one could recover the inscription by finding the areas of surface material which is more weakly bonded. If the chiseling made the material porous for example, then one might bake it in ammonia gas until the ammonia replaced the air in the pores, then immediately apply a (aqueous) solution of an X-RAY contrasting agent. The solution would disolve the ammonia and replace it inside the pores. The contrasting agent would need to be cleaned off the visible surface. The stone would then be ready for the X-RAY machine.

Somebody carted that stone from Oak Island and moved it to a library where it was used as a flat surface to cut leather on. If it had symbols carved into it why didn't they turn it over to avoid damaging the symbols or use something else? Why is this stone so important since they already know what was inscribed on it! It is not a Huge Breakthrough. This show really disappoints me as they never followed up with the analysis of the stone they found in Halifax. When initial analysis of the stone failed to disclose any of the strange symbols, they said that further in-depth forensic analysis would have to carried out on the stone. That was the end of it! There was no follow-up as to if the stone was indigenous or not to North America or if any of the purported symbols could or could not be seen by advanced analysis. The discovery of the 90-foot stone, if genuine, would be the greatest Oak Island "re-find" in 99 years, but I guess the show's producers believe that we viewers are "lowest common denominator" at best and just want to be entertained. This 90-foot stone segment on Curse Of Oak Island is about as vague as the follow-up on the mysterious appearance of Jock Ewing on the prime time soap opera, Dallas, after he was dead. Now, here are some facts about the 90-foot stone that this show apparently doesn't want to touch. If those visible carved initials are indeed, "LIV" Roman numerals, then that would be "54" or 54 A.D.. Every historical account from 1803 when the 90-foot stone was found in the Money Pit stated that the stone was found with the strange markings "face down" in the pit. Therefore, whatever the inscription stated was not meant to be seen by anyone digging down into the Money Pit. The strange inscription on the stone was meant to be seen by "someone" from below the 90 foot level---- NOT from above. Any Egyptian Archaeologist could explain what that means. The symbols, as seen in that famous crude sketch made of the stone back in the 1800's, were determined a few decades ago by scholars to be Tifinagh or Berber in origin which would date the 90-foot stone back to the exact time of Jesus Christ and even before. For History Channel to pursue this 90-foot stone story beyond what they did in Season 6 could quite possibly solve the Oak Island mystery as to what is buried or "entombed" beneath the island and there wouldn't be a TV show anymore. Maybe that would be good.... We Curse Of Oak Island viewers need a serious, no-nonsense, multi-episode Documentary on the subject of Oak Island including Mahone Bay and vicinity which includes the research work done by the Geological Survey of Canada which was carried out in the 1990's at Oak Island by the Canadian Federal government.
