Some are complaining the story took too long to get to the point of wendigo. I enjoyed the backstory of each character and built more narrative. Great story!!

A very impressive redemption arch for the gross, deadbeat, drunk dad. It surprised me. In the beginning I thought he was just going to be the first person killed as a way to introduce the wendigo, or even wander into the woods to get revenge on his wife and end up becoming the wendigo.

42 minutes in and still no mention of a Wendigo. I'm bailing, the writing is good took too long to get to the point.

SPOILERS AHEAD - DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW. I stopped a little over 5.5 hours into the audiobook. It was okay but really kind of boring, too many details that didn't matter and the narrator spoke in a somewhat off-putting manner, like he was talking to a child. Also, and this is just a general observation, I WISH that actual people who fit the profile voiced the different parts, for example a real woman when necessary and not a man faking a woman's voice - it would make the story that much more involving. Same as using a teenager to voice a teenager's part. But I would guess that's too expensive for most. And I do thank the author for posting this for free! However, and I don't care what flak I get for this, but I hit the EJECT button on the player (I'd burned this to a DVD-RW to listen downstairs) when Joe revealed he'd been in love with Roger. WHAT? I am so done with LGBTQ+ characters being shoved down my throat in mainstream entertainment with so few of them actually fitting into the story so had I known about this ahead of time I'd have listened to something else. I have no problem with what other people wish to enjoy, I'm not demanding anything. And I am not asking the author here to reveal anything ahead of time - all I'm saying is that I wish I hadn't spent over 5 hours listening to something I never would have in the first place and this is never going to happen to me again. The only way to do that is to only get physical books from the library AFTER I've read the 1 star reviews first on Goodreads to avoid LGBTQ themes, characters and leftist political agendas - again, this was nothing like that! I know this story isn't "Brokeback Mountain" but at least I knew beforehand what that was about and knew to avoid it, that's just not possible with this kind of audiobook. Again, not the fault of the author, it's just that I really don't see how Joe having had a gay relationship with Roger is relevant to the story and I never will because I DON'T CARE to know.

Wendigo . . is a long winded story about suicide . . cabin fever isolate or whatever . . humans are social animals
